I had an art lecture like your writing lecturer and if it wasn't done in the exact way he wanted and in the process that worked for him, you failed the assignment or got a poor grade, it's part of the reason why I've only just got back into drawing again recently.

Awww, I had an art professor like that too. And heaven help you if you were religious and put any hint of your faith into your art. If you did that you were torn to shreds, received a lecture about how sh!t you and your religion was, and immediately failed. Universities and schools need some kind of system to protect students from teachers like that. ._.

I absolutely agree, to an extent; it truly depends on the person teaching the course and what his/her goal is. I have had four writing teachers in my life time. The first was my fifth grade teacher; he encouraged us to write stories from time to time. This was the first time I'd ever written the stories in my head down, and it was wonderful. Sometimes we would read our stories aloud. 

 

My second writing teacher was in high school in a creative writing class. No genre was banned, no style of writing was forbidden. We wrote poetry, fiction, whatever. We would critique one another and had a reading at the end of the semester. It was really lovely.

 

My third writing teacher was as an undergrad in college; it was for a creative writing course, and I loved it so much I took it twice. We met weekly and critiqued the poem we had written that week. At the end of the semester, we turned in a short story and critiqued that as well. He was a wonderful person who sadly passed away from cancer, and I owe him everything as a writer.

 

My fourth writing teacher was a professor in grad school, and he was exactly as you described, so I don't have to go into detail. Suffice it to say, his criticism and snobbery stopped me from writing, full-stop, for about five years. I did not write a thing, nothing. Then in 2007 or so I started to write fanfiction, and the floodgates reopened. So yeah, f*** that guy lol I'm back.

 

A writing teacher dissuading anyone to write is not fit enough to be a writing teacher at all. That fourth writing teacher should be ashamed of himself. I wish my schools and colleges had creative writing classes but never did.

Teachers like this should be banned from teaching   My favorite "writing" teacher was actually General English in high school my senior year - I adored her. She encouraged everyone, no matter their style or writing preference. She changed a lot of people's minds about whether they were "good enough" to write just based on her enthusiasm for her students' writing whether it was poetry or short stories. She was great at critiquing, too.. she made sure to point out what should be fixed while also pointing out what was right and what could be expanded on for growth. Such a wonderful lady - I wish more teachers were like her.

She'll tell you it's gold, but that's just not true. She's a sharp, passionate emerald green.
 
2. If they were an animal, which would they be?
 
A cat without a doubt. Freedom-loving, unpredictable and difficult to tame. At first no-one will be sure if she'll dish out sweetness or injuries. She acts indifferent to the people around her, but those who get close enough will be able to tell that she cares.
 
3. Which music genre would best describe your Inquisitor?
 
Dance. She lives life to a fast-paced beat.
 
4. What season reflects their personality best?
 
Summer- action, excitement, and fleeting moments.
 
5. If your Inquisitor was a force of nature, what kind would they be? (hurricane, earthquake, etc.)
 
Melaina lives life like a tornado, appearing seemingly from nowhere, leaving a trail of chaos in her wake, and disappearing without warning any time things get uncomfortable.
 
6. What’s their alignment? 
 
Unpredictable- Melaina lives life on impulse, and her primary goal is self-preservation. She's not a hero in any sense at the start. She'll surprise herself as time goes on, and find herself making more sacrifices for others.
 
7. Which element best describes them?
 
Potassium- it's incredibly reactive, and burns both bright and beautiful.
 
8. What scent would they be associated with, if any?
 
Citrus, sharp and fresh and clean
 
9. Are they better with children, animals, or neither?
 
Animals- they don't judge her, and they don't try to tie her down
 
10. What’s the Inquisitor’s favourite food?
 
Melaina will eat anything presented- providing someone else takes first bite. She has a sweet tooth though and absolutely adores Orlesian desserts.

Necessity has taught her to be able to feed herself, but it's not something she enjoys.
 
12. Do they have any hobbies?
 
She drinks, she throws knives, and she'll break into any locked area for fun, even if she could probably gain legitimate entrance. She wouldn't class stealing as a hobby, more of a life skill, but she has a secret collection of purloined gemstones that says otherwise.
 
13. Are they very fashion-conscious or more practical?
 
Melaina knows how to dress to impress, and knows exactly how to make a statement needed, courtesy of her upbringing, but her preferred outfits can be defined as "anything easy to run in"- and with her penchant for getting into trouble, that's probably a good idea.
 
14. Are they neat or unorganised?
 
She's fanatically attached to her daggers and lockpicks, and organises them appropriately, but everything else is left to chance. She doesnt tend to think of the consequences.
 
15. Who do you think they’ll get along with best among their companions, if any?
 
Varric and the Iron Bull will be her companions in crime, she'll fall into trouble and they'll enjoy the fallout. Cassandra is going to be tearing her hair out.
 
16. Who will they romance, if anyone?
 
Cullen - this is going to surprise Melaina, but she needs some stability in her life, a reason to confront her problems instead of running, and here is a man who has seen and experienced the worst of the world and never abandoned his duties. That kind of strength will shake her, but she'll recognise him as someone constant and caring, and after what will probably be a rocky start, they'll make an interesting couple.
 
17. Do they have any scars? What are they from?
 
She has three large slashes across her left cheek, from getting up, close and personal with a bereskarn, and some faint marks on her back and around her wrists that she doesnt want to talk about.
 
18. If they met, how would your Inquisitor get along with your Warden? Your Hawke?
 
She'd get on pretty well with them both. My warden was manipulative and driven, focused on restoring her family to their rightful place. Providing Melaina didn't get in the way, she'd get along fine. My Hawke had an excellent sense of humour and a love of killing things. They'd be getting drunk together quite happily within minutes.
 
19. What’s your Inquisitor’s opinion on each of the various races, if any?

Melaina REALLY doesn't care what race anyone is. If she likes you, she likes you. If she doesn't, one way or another you won't be seeing her again. If your valuables and/or internal organs are also removed from your posession, well, it's just one of those things.

Well, if we decide to open a rift (since according to Gamescom, we can fully open them) and let the demons loose, we could use it as a weapon to punish our adversaries and instill fear. In that regard, we could be given a different title, one that is far more malevolent.

From what we know I think Dorian and Sera will be good friends with her. Cole will be like her adopted brother, not really because she wants to protect him from everything but more to help him understand this mortal world. (And because she's the youngest sibling herself she wants to be the older sister for once...that's if we even have siblings lol)

Cullen. Because reasons. But really I think they'll mesh well together, but only the game will tell.

Other than a few scrapes from play fighting as a child she has one kind of a long her jaw line. Self inflicted from training when she was younger.

She and Hawke would be good friends rather quickly. They both have witty personalities. I think the two together would be just one bad pun after the other. The Warden on the other hand would be more of an idol. The Warden is a strong willed, good leader. (Good seems like such a strange word but it will do for now lol) Allmora would probably look to be more like her with her new role as Inquisitor.
