Don't think I'm criticising your characters! I just need to ask all the things!
Would they really not know about the Maker/Chantry and have an opinion on it? I mean the Dalish Clans we've seen before at least teach their history, how Andraste helped them even though she was a prophet to a God they didn't believe in, and what the Chantry/Humans have done to them in the name of their God in the past. I imagine they would have an opinion on that? Even if they believe the past is the past and that human and elves need to learn to live beside one another before things can become peaceful?
I believe I remember you saying Auren starts his journey fairly racist towards humans? I imagine those views are built on experiences and history, yes?
What would they think of being sent to the peace talk as spies, according to the backgrounds we've just learnt about?
Actually, there's a question to all Dwarf/Elf Inquisitors!
What do they think of this spying business?
And a question to all Inquisitors:
What do they think of the peace talk?
Okay, I'm sure Auren learned about Andraste as a wee elf, but he isn't exactly the scholarly sort and I bet if you asked him what he thought of her, he'd frown and say, "Who?" (meanwhile the clan elders overhear and shake their heads; the boy's head is full of nothing but bows and rabbits and optimal hunting conditions). As to why he hates humans? He knows what others tell him, that humans are the reason they've lost their immortality, that humans are cruel and enslave elves in the human cities, and he's determined that if he ever meets one, he'll kill him, for the safety of his clan. Humans rape elven women and probably eat elven children. They're monsters. (Is it becoming apparent that he's secretly afraid of them? Hmm.) As for the Chantry, no, I doubt he would know much about that; maybe if you jogged his memory a bit, but it would be like asking your typical American what they know about Shintoism. Huh...? Oh. That's in... Asia somewhere, right? That religion is so weird! Etc. etc.
Now let's assume Kael is from this same tribe. Kael doesn't have Auren's fear and hatred; he's too curious about the outside world. He feels frustrated over how isolated his clan is from the rest of the world. He knows all about the Chantry and Andraste and he's aching to meet his first human, to view his first magnificent Chantry building, and see a statue of Andraste. He's more a philosopher and a wonderer than a person of faith; he finds all faiths curious and is eager to learn about them and compare them to one another. I think he would be/will be surprised if he encounters an actual god or prophet.
I hope that answers your questions~!
It seems to be assumed that every character has to have a "strong opinion" about these, well, very human issues of mage/templar and the Chantry. But a couple of forest elves, at least the way I see it, living in isolation and being fed on rumor and myth, are not necessarily going to fit into either "side." When it comes to human culture, Auren's most basic emotion is fear. And for Kael, it's curiosity.
What do they think of being sent to spy? Auren is terrified but he keeps a stern/brave face. Kael is dying of curiosity and probably almost wet himself when the Keeper picked him LOL He is probably shaking hands with every human, dwarf, and qunari he meets. He's a terrible spy. TERRIBLE.
As for the peace talks, I doubt either really cares. Auren is too busy swallowing his rage at seeing elven servants everywhere, and Kael is too busy introducing himself to every Tom, Dick, and Harry.
