So, yes, I’ll confirm: Varric is not a love interest in #DAI. I’ll see what I can do about getting a post up dispelling remaining mysteries.

Oh no....  :(

Oh gosh, don't want to Like this because I feel bad for the Varricmancers, but the bolded part would be awesome!!!

Aw, gosh it's somber in the Varric thread. I feel bad for them... We got VERY lucky with Cullen. He could've easily been non-romanceable or not in the game at all if they'd stuck with his original epilogues.

Still a shame that he's not romanceable to everyone, but at least it's something, which is more than many have got.

Yay hopeful news about last two romances, but boo no Varric. Wonder if they'll mention who's race gated of if that will remain a mystery...

I hope that gets revealed soon as well.

I'm really curious.

Oh! It's that time again!

Inquisitor Question Time

Even those who aren't mages have heard stories of where the veil is thin and what can happen in those haunted spaces. How would your Inquisitor have approached such areas before the Fade breach and the veil's disappearance almost entirely? How would your Inquisitor react to the kinds of hauntings we've seen before as both our Warden and Hawke? Would they be curious about the history or would they want to leave the place behind them as quickly as possible? Would they wish to try and help whatever restless ghosts resides there or would they feel the problems of the dead are none of their concern?

Shat herself, most likely! LOL! I mean, being from the circle she may have seen one or two weird things but she definitely would have been creeped out... especially if she'd been reading ghost books and scared herself like I've done on many occasions. I think morbid curiosity would have encouraged her to look into the supernatural happenings or follow the ghost down the hallway etc, just because she's an idiot, lol.

*Edit* It's really weird talking about myself in third person, makes me sound like I'm a bit unhinged!

Yea it's a pretty big bummer  :( I was actually planning on finishing my 1st dwarf PT and romancing him if he were available. I've never been able to stick w/ a dwarf for a full game, but that would've been a really good motivator to see how their relationship panned out.

I hope the lads/ladies that were hoping for Varric have another character they can connect with, but that really sucks that they've had to deal w/ that disappointment twice now. Kinda makes me wish they had announced it early on. I don't really get why they wouldn't just reveal all the romance options at the same time.

A few of them want to romance Solas... I dread to think how they'll feel if he isn't.

I just had to deliver the bad news to my daughter about Varric, sigh. She likes dwarves even more than I do and really just wants a dwarf-to-dwarf romance.

Gale is pretty used to finding lost souls across the Veil and feels really bad for them. Gale is a healer at heart, and so wants to bring those souls to peace.

As for the thinned veil, Gale can feel it like his hair stands on end. Also, the sounds of the Fade sound like discordant music to him. His research on Fade phenomena helped to get him his Senior Enchanter rank.

Yeah, maybe it would have been better to rip the band-aid/plaster off fast and get it over with.

Well, to answer my own question with my rogue boy!

He was taught about both the Fade and Veil, and he's read the occasional story as well as trespassed into areas with an atmosphere that has made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. He hasn't come across any ghostly apparitions, however. Not yet, at least, but when he does? Well, he can't say he'll feel at his most comfortable, that's for damn sure! Morbid curiosity will drive him forward rather than back, however, and he wouldn't find himself unsympathetic to whatever story he unearthed along the way. If there was a way to help he likely would. (His companions would have to put up with a lot of chatter to fill the silence, though, because when this boy feels the least bit nervous he talks and talks and talks. Normally it's all snarky humour.)

Melaina's first instinct will be to run for the nearest pub, buy herself a very large drink, and tell herself that it's not really her problem anyway. Since that won't be an option in her new role as leader, she'll resort to her secondary defence- humour. She'll be appearing to have great fun, and tormenting those in the party who are visibly nervous. Inside though, she'll be resentful- if it can't be stabbed, it's clearly not something she's supposed to be dealing with. As far as she's concerned, the dead should stay dead, they had their chance and they have no right to be interrupting her day. If the others in the party badger her though, she'll give in and help.

Fëanor would want to help the ghosts in those areas, and he'd explore them and find the history behind those areas. Despite dalish are wary of spirits (as he is), he decided that It's better to know the most possible about the Fade and the Veil, to be prepared to an danger.

I'm not sure how Zhenya would react. She might be cautious, but probably curious. As Varric commented, with a merchants' guild (or carta) breathing down your neck, not much else would scare you, lol.

Kidd translated the original question and answer for us over on the Twitter thread:

Quote

There seems to have been a bit of uncertainty regarding whether the fan favourite Varric is available for romance. Is it possible to clarify today?

Mark: It won't be possible to romance him. But there is a reason for that.

Mike: I think this is the first time we say this, so it'll be you who get to face the tears of the fans. He already has somebody, so to speak.

Mike: It's something we've been very careful with. When we started developing Inquisition, we really took in feedback from fans and listened close. We went with our hunches about what people seemed to hold dear in the Dragon Age franchise. We know that if we were to remove certain features, we will disappoint a lot of fans. Varric is one such thing. Many fans wish to fall in love with him, while others do not. So as we say 'no' today, that is a 'no' based on a lot of thought.

So.. maybe we'll have a chance to get Varric and Bianca back together, since he "already has somebody". It would just be too sad otherwise. If anyone needs some lovin', it's Varric.

Maybe it's the translation, but that last thing sounds really weird.

'We listened to a lot of fans. A lot of fans want Varric and a lot of fans DIDN'T. So we listened.'

Because, you know. It's not like romances are OPTIONAL.

I would have preferred if they just stuck to the story reasons he's not available than give us that weird mess.

I always go back to Flemeth's line, "Perhaps I am a dragon". That line really struck a chord with me. She's some kind of dragonic deity. I had always wondered...what if she's the reverse of what she appears? What if she doesn't transform from human to dragon, but from her true form of a dragon into a human? Perhaps she is a dragon deity that learned how to transform into a human shape?

Whenever I remember that line of Flemeth's I'm reminded of a woman who used to come into our library - possibly the craziest person I've ever met. She wore bells all over her skirt so she jingled when she walked, and she told me once, with a sly look, that she was a dragon. Also descended from the pharaohs and an empress. According to her a taxi driver was looking at her funny and so she had his head cut off - both of them. She didn't like men much, had sent many to the 'penile' colonies!!!! She believed every word. She seemed happy enough though and I always enjoyed talking to her.

If Blackwall isn't an option, I seriously may cry.

But I'd be happy for the Solas fans. I have a feeling it'll be Viv and one of the men.

That would be my preferred outcome too. I think Blackwall is a fantastic character but he really reminds me of a more hirsuite version of my dad for some reason.
