I'll sacrifice Cassandra as one of the race-gated romances for you guys.
Archer looks like my dad when he was young.

To me... all of these would create excellent drama in the relationship; imagine an elf trying to convince Dorian that it's okay, that their love is different than the forced sickness that exists between master and slave. Dorian says no, he can't do it, but eventually he can't help it because he's in love, and you show him that it CAN be equal between the two of you, and that he's not responsible for what his people have done to yours.
Isn't that nicer and deeper than a single scene where Dorian tells you he's not interested because you're an elf and it makes him feel uncomfortable... ROMANCE ENDED.
Maybe we are not doing them credit
Maybe the reasons will be really good.
Either way, people will be disappointed. I hope they're enjoying their "realism." It's managing to produce a lot of sad fans.
Oh, don't get me wrong! I would be all OVER that as a romantic story! And I'm a romantic, so...! ![]()
I was just throwing non-racist ideas out there as examples.
Agreed. On the one hand it could be Cullen out of any of them due to the Qunari invasion he witnessed being used as a reason, however, I don't see why it would affect him baring in mind a Qunari protagonist is a Tal-Vashoth and has nothing to do with the Qun or the Qunari that attacked Kirkwall, which was Isabela's fault anyway, lol. Hell, if he's ready and willing to date a bloody mage protagonist then a Qunari one should be a non-issue, lol!
No kidding, right? Class-gating with Cullen I could actually understand and accept. Race-gating? Nope.

Oh yeah, I know lol Let's just hope the race-gating serves to deepen the characters and not cheapen them, sigh.
At least now we know that Varric isn't a race gated romance, on account of him not being a romance lol.
I can't imagine Solas would be race-gated (if he's an LI) simply because they describe him as being so open minded and non-judgmental about everything lol.

Right! I forgot about that. It would be weird for them to go on about how open-minded he is, only to have him be like, NO, dwarves, ew! in the game ![]()

I could see maybe Vivienne being race-gated, if she's and LI. Perhaps she'd be like "no elves because I'm used to them being servants" LOL! Mind you, she's not strictly Orlesian anyway so I dunno.
The only good ones that I can come up with being possible race gates are Cullen and Viv. For some reason, I really don't see the s/s only romances being gated (Dorian and Sera). Though, perhaps Sera, since she's a Friend of Red Jenny, might have issues with a Human Noble.

The thing is, with Viv, if you're smart, capable, and powerful (like the Inquisitor, of any race) I don't see why she wouldn't want to be in a relationship with you.

Dorian I can't imagine being race gated... I mean, I know he comes from a place where Elves are slaves but he's bucked the trend and behaves very un-Tervinter for a good reason. I could see him dating an Elf for that very reason... maybe he'll refuse to date humans? LOL!

This is also true. I can't really see any good reason for any of them to be race gated currently, unless it's a simple case of it just being a preference or something.

Heaven help the BSN if that's what happens... ![]()
I'll burn it to the ground. ![]()

I think people can have preferences but that can be overridden by personality and connection. I mean... okay, I can't say this without sounding weird, but... I don't personally look at people as sexually attractive and personally view people as a design, I guess you could say? And I'm personally drawn to darker colour palettes and brown and green eyes. So while I'm not personally attracted to blonds as a design-- and there's nothing wrong with blonds! That can be overridden by personality. If I like someone's personality, I then find them physically attractive too.
...That probably sounds so weird. ![]()
I think if it was more about Celene, rather than herself, I think I wouldn't mind race gating her against elves too much.
If it was presented as a 'Look, I've thrown my lot in with Celene, so she needs to win this war comfortably. She's already seen as being too lenient with elves, so I'm sorry, but I simply can't jeopardise her position like this by being involved with an elf.', I think it would show her as slightly less self-absorbed, while still making sense for her character. But if the reason was to do with Celene, I wouldn't want that to extend to any other race, unless she had another reason, (which just seems too excessive).

You're demisexual, iirc? Lol, it's not weird. People find attractive what they find attractive.
Sera might be Red Jenny.
I wouldn't be surprised if she was. At this point, I'm pretty sure that "Red Jenny" is a mantle passed on to a successor.

No, it doesn't sound weird; I'm not into blonds either, but I can find a blond guy attractive. I can find any guy of any race attractive... once you get to know the person, that's what counts. The only thing I can't bring myself to be into is women. So that's something I think it isn't possible to change, no matter how much you meditate on it.

I tentatively identify as demisexual, yeah. I'm not entirely sure, but what I've read seems to fit, though. ![]()

I actually thought this was the case when we first her she was affiliated with the organization!

Oh that's neat; I just read up on it. It sounds like me, too.

Lol, I find that labels, while perhaps not as encompassing as we would like, tend to be quicker and easier to write on a forum.
Ah, there's Blair!
