well ladies and gents, in order to truly study Cullen in DA2, I have started up a new game and will devote as much time as possible to chatting with the Knight Captain. I need to be able to keep up with all of you!
I just realized again how frustrating I find the CC in DA2. I'm only 45 minutes in and I've visited the Black Emporium 3 times already. God I hope they give us eyelashes in DAI!!!!!
Only 3 times in 45 minutes?! that's good going, I swear I can do maybe 5 or 10 visits in that time.....obsessed much lol

Can someone find any links or quotes where a dev said that Bioware was incorporating NPC romances into Inquisition? Or is this assumption that Cullen is going to be an NPC romance based on that supposed leak that talks about Purple Crows, Red Fists and Golden Coins?
It's a fan assumption since the devs have said the classes will be equally distributed. That means there are only 3 Warriors. Two we know, Cassandra and Iron Bull. And seing him ingame leads most to believe Grey Warden is the third. That means cullen is not a companion since he is a Warrior. But he is confirmed as a LI, thus he is a NPC LI.

I'm still more inclined to believe that the Grey Warden will only be in-game at the start, when we pick him up for one reason or another, and then eventually we'll drop him off at a keep where he will take up the advisor role. I just feel he is much more qualified to be an advisor NPC than Cullen. Due to his age GW probably has more experience, and he's likely battle weary due to being closer to his calling and hence not as useful in the field as Cullen.
Buuuut could be completely wrong. ![]()

I have to say, I hope you are wrong. Sorry. Only because having a veteran Grey Warden character seems much more interesting than a Templar character.

Though equal distribution might not mean 3/3/3 since devs didn't say the exact numbers. It's just highly likely. Almost everything so far is just speculation of fans ^^;

True, though 3/3/3 is the only way something can be evenly distributed among the number 9.

Do not apologize friend, different opinions are good!
I too think GW is objectively more interesting. Just doesn't make sense to me to choose him over someone like Cullen for a companion that will be with you constantly engaging in battles.

Of course it would be when half the posts have nothing to do with Cullen. It is not a thread, it is a chat log.Once again, we are the longest character thread.

I say he has about a decade's worth of reason to be a companion than Cullen does. But mostly, I see it as him being the Warden's perspective for the Inquisition while traveling. Cullen could be very similar in outlook on certain things to Vivienne, for example due to her being Pro-Circle. Or Cassandra for being Pro-Chantry.

Mmm... must be careful or it'll get moved to off-topic like the confessions thread. ![]()

Happy Easter, everyone!
As for the Grey Warden vs Cullen debate...
I sort of want both, because I'm curious about both perspectives. Obviously I know more about Cullen, so I can be more curious and interested in his character, but where they could go with a veteran Grey Warden could be interesting... saying that, I feel a Templar's perspective on the whole fade tear business would be way more interesting than a Grey Warden's. Unless that Grey Warden had possible insight on the Black City!
I just want all the things, apparently...

I'm dubious on the 3/3/3 split if only because there is no official clarification on what "evenly spread" meant. Which I personally think most likely means 3/3/3 split.
Beardy as a companion and Cullen as some kind of NPC character/romance seems likely at the moment. I'm fine either way, both are interesting to me.
Having an actual templar in the party would still be nice.. /shrugs.

I prefer Cullen lot more but it's mostly cause I find Grey Wardens boring and I don't know anything about beardy warden so far what would make his personality intresting to me. I just feel like we have had enough for Grey Wardens for life and I don't know what it's more to know of their role and view of things. We should rather have darkspawn companion, that'd be new viewpoint to world ^^
In other hand there is one of my fav NPC's and GW who I don't know anything about. So the decision which one I want is pretty clear.

Forgetting Cullen for a moment...
Admittedly it is time we have a Templar in the party. A real templar. Alistair never took his vows, and Carver could be a Templar, a Warden, or dead and wasn't in the party much/didn't speak about the Templars much, anyway. I'm interested in seeing the Templar's views on things from an actual companion.

Well, there's always Carver in DA2's DLC and Endgame. ![]()

Thinking about the 3/3/3 ratio of companions...
I can see the bearded warden being a rogue, strangely enough. An armoured rogue, like Duncan was. That would definitely be a change. Yes, I know leaks have shown him with a shield... but I like the idea of a different kind of swashbuckler.
I think it's because of Beardy's hawk upon his arm in the fan-made line-up of companions. Beardy strikes me as a ranger of some kind. My point being, if he's a ranger, then that leaves the warrior slot open for Cullen!
Edited for being a fool and forgetting the main point of my post.

I'd rather have a templar than a Grey Warden among my companions even if said templar wasn't Cullen. I feel like we've had enough info on the Grey Wardens from the first game and I've never been particularly interested in them anyway, even in DA:O. I don't care that much what they're up to in DA:I either, probably they've just been corrupted in some way and become bad guys. I'm very interested about learning more about templar training, their lyrium addiction and pretty much just life as a templar.
I'm not convinced about the idea that Cullen is an NPC. It's all a bunch of fan speculation that people have taken for canon. We don't even know that we'll have either advisors or NPC romances. I'm still sticking to my idea that two warriors will be mutually exclusive and I'm not abandoning that until we get a dev confirmation on whether Cullen is a companion or not.

I feel similarly about Grey Wardens. It's just that we already have had 7 companions at least who were Grey Wardens in the games and in DAO and DA:A you were Grey Warden yourself. It just feels like that aspect of DA has been showed so many times already. It'd be nice to have first templar companion in the game since Alistair hardly is templar and Carver has 1/3 change being templar in DA2. Although we have had lot of viewpoint to templars and mages in the games we haven't had one in the party although we have had many mages with different opinions about templars and circle.

Sorry bout that, I only remember because I count my lucky stars I was born on the 18th, a few days earlier and I'd have been born on the Hillsborough Disaster, a few days later and I'd share my birthday with a genocidal madman...
Here, everyone take an Easter egg to make up for that bringing the mood down.
Back to Cullen news;
I was just wondering, given how photo-realistic the images we've gotten so far are, how do you think Cullen will appear in the new engine?
Different. Probably good. But different.

Agree. It would be really nice to learn more about the templar perspective instead of painting them as black hats (despite DA2's best efforts to provide balance).

While I like the Grey Wardens, I feel like they need to be related to the plot in order to work and that now the Blight is over, they've lost some of their immediate relevancy. If you've kept the Architect alive, they've got a reason to be busy working with him and dealing with the newly-Awakened Darkspawn, but without him... I dunno, what would they be doing at this moment?
Of course, Bioware might be planning on pulling another Mhairi, getting us all interested in a companion and then killing them off an hour into the game. I could see them doing that to the Bearded Warden, but hopefully not anyone we've come to know like Cullen, Varric and Cass.

Well, we do know we have the ability to bomb a warden fortress, so I'm gathering the wardens may be more than a bit relevant. Plus all the wardens we've had in our party since DAO have all been freshly tainted.
Even Alistair was only a warden for 6 months before the protag and had a very rose-colored view of the order to boot. Getting a perspective from a person who's been a warden for a while and who hopefully does not have some sort of idealized view of the order would be welcome to me.
I digress, I'm still personally leaning towards wanting a templar companion more. I can understand why a lot of people feel grey warden'd out at this point.
