Hmm... you know, thinking about it that way, as "Thedas shattering," I bet it would dredge up some of the same questions about the greater good and the ends justifying the means. Sort of "DaVinci Code"-esque high jinks might ensue, with secret societies coming out of the woodwork to set things right (*cough*Seekers?*cough*). Is it bad that I want to see that?? LOL

So long as they don't spend an entire chapter describing every insignificant detail of a place the book game doesn't even visit.

I'msosorry.

Of course, Bioware might be planning on pulling another Mhairi, getting us all interested in a companion and then killing them off an hour into the game. I could see them doing that to the Bearded Warden, but hopefully not anyone we've come to know like Cullen, Varric and Cass.

I totally forgot how everyone assumed Mhairi would be a full companion. I agree, something similar could happen to BW early game, leaving a space for Cullen later on? Or maybe they're mutually exclusive? Many possibilities.

Maybe he's close to his calling and he's a temporary companion. All the maybes or what ifs have to be looked at

I don't really understand people thinking that seeing him in game fighting means he's definitely  a companion. I've been replaying DA:O and there are quite a few temporary companions. I remember when I first played I liked Daveth and was upset he didn't survive the joining. Also, Jowan, Tamlen, Soris, etc. We could have seen gameplay footage or concept art of Jowan, for example, pre-release and been totally convinced he was a companion. His role is important, but he's only a party member for a short amount of time. It's not completely outside the realm of possibility.

Just because we see someone fighting with us in game, it's not a guarantee of their permanent inclusion.

I guess since so little information is available, people are just fixating on what little there is and making assumptions. While it would be great to have another warden in my party, I think that it would make more sense if he was an advisor. Though I too am making assumptions because I really don't want any NPC romances.

Interesting thought: maybe the advisers are party members for at least one mission? Sort of like a recruitment/escort mission where we have to convince them to help and then take their arses back to our base in the area. Or they get one mission that's to do with their role where we have to work with them in the party.

(That's if we even HAVE advisers. Has something like that even been confirmed? I honestly can't remember.)

From what I understand, the advisers are those popups that tell you how many men or units you have stationed in an area that you control. And Dagna with her research and stuff like that.

Hold on, I have an image from PAX Prime.

WARNING: BIG BIG PICTURE SORRY.

This could just be a placeholder, however. But, it is interesting to consider.

This says "our General" in it, but still doesn't mention Advisors... only Agents. I think only the Agent thing has been officially confirmed by Bioware, and the Advisors are something that us fans have speculated about, due to the pop up with Dagna.

It's certainly arguable that we have "Advisors", but I don't think that the term has ever officially been used by Bioware.

And happy Spring Festival/Chocolate Day/Whatever-you-celebrate to you all! :)

Yeah, I think the agents notion is different from what people have been discussing with regard to advisors. Agents are a seemingly faceless resource you use to fix monuments, clean out noxious gas, etc etc, and you spend them like gold. I think the advisors notion, as someone mentioned earlier is from that leak about the golden keys, etc. About an individual who advises you. But advisors are all speculative.

edit: There is some cross over in the ideas, however, given shots like the following, which include golden keys. But again, that idea is only from that dubious leak.

Exactly. I'm wondering if the advisors are even going to be as important as the forums has built them up to be. Perhaps our "General" is really our military advisor. In reading the blurb, he's, well, advising us on military options. Although, this "General" could be a stand if for Cullen during the demo, though.

Very true. These "advisors" are looking more and more like near-faceless characters through whom you basically spend agents on. If this is true, that begs the question: if Cullen is an NPC, what kind of NPC would he be?

EDIT: "More-and-more" sounds very final.  More like, beyond that one leak, they don't appear much-involved with the actual plot. Hard to say.

Just noticed that wind spells thing in the Dagna picture. Could this mean the primal tree will be more in depth this time around?

That'd be cool. Primal tree was my go-to tree for my canon Hawke. (Gotta love no Friendly Fire on Nightmare!) I always felt like Earthquake should've been in DA2. Wind would be a neat addition, though.

Can I just say: every time I see that slide with Dagna's name I get all happy :D "awww!! My lil Dagna's all grown up and saving Thedas!" (Yes, I robbed a Disney quote, so sue me!)

--------

So, remember several pages back when people were wondering if Sam and Steve were confirmed as NPC LI's back when ME3 was about to come out? I was digging around in the old forums to see if I could jog my memory back to that time and definitely saw references to them as NPC romances back in at least January, months before ME3s release...

...but then I remembered that there was that huuuuge script leak for ME3, in - I think - November 2011. Huge portions of dialogue and such were leaked, much of it ending up being in game. So I can't for the life of me remember if NPC Romances were officially announced well before game release or if it was all just in the leak and fans took off from there...

Which is basically just my rambling way of saying I can't find a BW "precedent" for announcing NPC romances before game release. Whether that translates to higher odds of Cullen being a companion or not? Hell if I know >.<

I agree! Completely. I wasn't very clear, but was more meaning that the "agents" were the only thing officially discussed by Bioware. The "Dagna" thing (as seen above, thank you!) was my *ahem* speculation on where the idea of "Advisors" had perhaps started? That, and Gaider saying that one piece of Concept art had characters that were not companions. Again, just speculation. But I agree that the agents will be faceless assets that we somehow gather through our travels. (Since it always seems to mention the number needed). I think announcing Cullen as LI just fueled the Advisor speculation.

If I remember correctly, I don't think that the devs have even used the word Advisor. Until I hear the words from their mouths, I'm comfortable in thinking that they may not exist at all. :)

I also think the speculation about advisors draws heavily from fans thinking back to the only DA game where we had a keep of some sort / actual leadership power over an area/forces/etc not just for a final battle -- which would be Awakening. We had three "advisors" there, to help out with military forces, land/subjects/idiots-guide-to-ruling management and commerce... So people are maybe taking that prior example and applying its likelihood to DAI. I think it's very likely we'll have SOMETHING like that, I just don't know if it's to the degree people are assuming,

ZOMG, better Primal tree? YES PLEASE *grabby hands* if there is one I think my first Inquisitor will DEFINITELY be a Mage. Right now I'm torn between Mage and Rogue for my first.

Heck, maybe Scribbles is our go-between for these "advisors", and that's why she's so important. Leliana's important because she's got the ear of the Divine and the Empress. And Cullen...

Well. He's not really all that needed as an NPC in this scenario, huh?  ;)

Yeah, I don't know that the advisors even exist either. Again, I think it was spawned from the notion of these agents, and folks were convinced for a while that agents were individuals as opposed to assets. Pics like #1 below also suggested it, because it had portraits of seeming characters. However, note that of the three portrait cards, the player seems to be able to choose the military dude and "FORCES It will be a mighty bastion" for Griffon Wing Keep, probably meaning that you can spend 15 agents to upgrade the keep to be militaristic (as opposed to espionage and commerce, the other two types of Keeps mentioned during PAX). You can then see in the subsequent screenshot #2 that once this is selected, the keep becomes more militaristic and the "military dude" card remains, showing what you chose.

So, I think the picture cards confused the matter as well, that agents were real people like advisors.

Yes. Exactly what you've said.

Which leaves the argument - if Cullen is not  an Advisor, does that mean he's a companion? Or will there be other NPC's that have enough interaction with the Inquisitor to be relevant? I'm still leaning towards him being a companion... but I'm an optimist. :)

I dunno. I think it leaves a whole world of possibility for his role as an NPC. It's not a big leap for me to imagine something just a step up from what he did in DA2: Stand around the [[GALLOWS | KEEP | GRAND CATHEDRAL | LOVE SHACK]] all day and we go visit him from time to time.

I would hope that if he's a romance and an NPC, they do it faaaar better than in DA2. ;)

Edit: Silly phone. I meant "Don't do it like DA2" or "Do it far batter than DA2"... Not "don't do it far better" cos that makes no sense. Sorry  I switched to the lappy cos foruming on the cell is a chooooore!
