I have to admit that as player siding with templars is more tempting because of Cullen. If you side with mages big part of his character deveploment isn't shown which is sad. So it's one of reasons why I actually prefer siding with templars
I'd never sided with templars until recently when I read some chatter in here about seeing him more. Glad I did because otherwise I would never of seen it
My Warden is a wuss, always looking for the easy way out of everything, she doesn't like making difficult decisions, so when it can be avoided she's all for it. She went to the circle tower, didn't side with either party, saved whom she could, got the mages to head back to Redcliffe where Jowan was keeping watch over Conner. Got approval from Alistair as a bonus. It worked out rather well in the end......she thinks ![]()
My mage Hawke sees herself as a different kind of mage to the circle/kirkwall mages. She isn't up herself or boastful, not different like that but she feels she understands her magic and all the many pitfalls of it more than most. She is very diplomatic but resolute in her feelings against blood magic, she won't stand for it and is very black and white, Merril is the only rival she ever has in DA2. Any mage remotely connected to blood magic is circle bound or dead.
She always starts off by supporting the mages, although she isn't strictly pro-mage. Templars under Meredith have kind of gone off the rails and she believes she can calm the fires by dealing with rogue mages yet defending good ones. She quickly becomes very disillusioned with that notion and starts to question why just about every "free" mage she comes across is crazy.
By the time Anders does what he does, she flips, kills him and sides with the Templars. She's not happy with it and still helps mages surrendering but she feels she was left with little choice. She had tried to support mages and their freedoms and look where that had gotten them, damage limitation was the way for her to go.
Motivations aside, Cullens extra dialogues if you support Templars, is sooo worth it ![]()
Does anyone know where I can find that article about frostbite and how DA character interaction works? I hear Cullen has a line of dialogue and I wanted to see it.
I have the screenshot but I can also try to find the whole article if you want ![]()

I have no idea as to the complexity of all that programming but I can only guess how long it would take if you have to create the likes of above for every part of every conversation, wow.
I'm actually stunned how clear the user interface looks. I had imagined more buttons but that doesn't look so scary. (Yeah, I'm always intimidated by software with lots of buttons and windows. Not really helpful when someone wants to work in the game industry
).
What did i miss?
*has cup of tea*

Ooh, it looks like Cullen might have a brawl with someone? That's exciting.
'I wonder with who though...

I don't even own a mobile phone, technophobe doesn't begin to describe me ![]()
I look at something like that screenshot and it looks really complex but I agree to someone that's familiar with that kind of technology and can make sense of it, it probably isn't all that intimidating ![]()
I'm trying to make sense of it without any success, no surprise there lol.
Though I'm not familiar with this particular tool, I've been a software engineer for almost 20 years, so maybe I can explain what I see?
There's two important sections in the screenshot, the panel to the left, which contains different actors in the cutscene, and the part in the center and to the right, which contains a timeline of events.
In the panel to the left, we can see three actors: Angry Templar, Angry Mage, and Cullen. The Angry mage portion is collapsed, so we cannot see anything he says or does, but both Angry Templar and Cullen have event son the screen.
First a script runs, presumably controlling the actions of the characters, which is called ...cullen_brawl_interrupt. It seems to me this indicates that Cullen is STOPPING a brawl between the Angry Templar and the Angry Mage.
At the same time, the Angry Templar says a line starting with "Your kind killed..." which is, presumably, aimed at the Angry Mage. There's a long delay, presumably when the Mage responds, but we can't see it because it is collapsed. The Templar responds with a line starting, "Shut your...", then Cullen has a voice track that doesn't have any words. A grunt perhaps, as there are at the same time, changes to his facial expression. The Templar objects with a line starting with, "Kn...", presumably "Knight-Captain...". Cullen, apparently quite angry, responds with a line starting with, "That is not my title. We are NOT templars any longer...".
There are other things relatd to the expression of the eyes and brows, for facial expressions, but I think we can imagine what his face might look like when delivering these lines to the Angry Templar, especially since his baseline expression in this scene is "Loathe" (while the Templar's is "Rage").
Does that help?
Impossible for them maybe but not impossible period.
I played Hawke as a politically astute woman in a very unique position who sought Circle reform through diplomacy. She believed in the Circle but not in Kirkwall's approach and wanted to make change "slowly, from within", as she described it to Anders. She had big ideas and big dreams for the Kirkwall Circle....sigh.
I could see taking that view, but myself, I'd have a very hard time convincing myself that I should tell the people trapped inside and being abused that they should be patient while I was able to stay on the outside.
Absolutely Shayna, ty so much for that
I get it now....wheee! thx again!
I was trying to tie in the coloured bars with the coloured tabs at the top and nothing matched lol so nothing was making any sense.

The colored tabs up top indicate camera positions, rather than actor positions/actions. OTS is over the shoulder, and CU is close up, etc. For instance, the camera zooms to a close up of Cullen when he says his lines.

Ahhh, I understand now, I had no idea, now I feel foolish lol. Ty for taking the time to explain all that, I really appreciate it. It all makes so much more sense ![]()
Now I have this image of grumpy Cullen going nuts because there is a cameraman constantly on his tail and in his face lol. I think that spells coffee break lol.

Thanks! This is really interesting. So what I'm thinking is that the Templar and Mage are both Inquisition soldiers now. The Mage probably isn't happy about serving under a former templar and the Templar is probably angry that he's now having to work alongside mages, especially after it seems to have been a mage who killed the Divine. Cullen's all BAMF and tells them their loyalties are not the the Order or the Fraternities or whatever, but the Inquisition and that stopping the Big Bad is the most important thing.
If this is how it goes down, I am going to be a happy woman. The more they tease us with little things like this about Cullen's character development, the more I'm looking forward to just meeting the DAI version and getting to know him. And when I think our Quizzy is going to get to have an actual relationship with him
...it still feels almost too good to be true. And yet IT IS TRUE!
(You'll have to excuse me...I'm having one of those days where I'm freaking out over how close this game is to actually being mine.
)
Cullen's going to be race gated against female Qunaris, right? I just assumed that was a given... I mean, he was a Knight Commander of the Templars... I don't see how he could be interested in a follower of the Qun or even someone as alien as a kossith.
We don't know if Cullen will be the other race gated love interest.
Edit: I might have missed this since I don't read all of the news but didn't they say that the Qunari Inquisitor was a Tal-Vashot, someone who abandoned the Qun?
'I wonder with who though...
Well, it looks like he's actually breaking up a fight that's started/about to start between and a mage and Templar. So it seems he's stepping in to interrupt it.

No confirmation of anything yet. The Qunari Inquisitor doesn't follow the Qun anyway, so it shouldn't really be a problem. Still, time will tell.
