So Cullen's subjective preferences says he likes humans and elves.
I don't understand all the hate, he was always that way. It's not like he just suddenly doesn't find other races appealing, we saw it comming.
And it's not like only Cullen's fans wanted him to be more "open-minded" yes, Solas, I'm judging you.
Technically it could be a story reason- we don't actually know the story yet, right? Not his story. Maybe Qunari killed his mother or he's afraid of the dark so that's why he can't deal with Dwarves.

Actually this time there isn't younger romance options either XD Cole would be only one in my age group but he isn't LI ^^;

And we've figured out the real reason why he's not a companion- he's afraid of the deep roads! He wont come along! He's just going to stay nice and safe in my well-lit castle.
I'm actually relieved. I thought there was a good chance he'd be race-gated, so was a little worried that he might end up being for humans only since the elven Inquisitor is Dalish. I was not looking forward to the possibility of having to play a human again after getting so excited about being able to play an elf again.

He's the oldest we've gotten thus far. Glad I don't have to feel like a dirty old cougar this round!
I'm really stoked about the prospect of having an older-appearing LI. He probably isn't any older than Cassandra, but I'm still glad that it isn't just 20-somethings. Because I totally plan to play at least one older protagonist, so it works.
Granted, I was hoping to romance both Cullen and Blackwall with male inquisitors, but I can probably just save them for Dorian and Bull.
But my first inquisitor will be a dwarven female, in honor of Aimo.
Aaaand cue the one possible reason for racegating Cullen that could actually ****** me off. I find it easier to identify physically with Qunari than elves, and I know quite a few people have said the same thing about dwarves. I guarantee the reason for dwarf/Qunari femquisitors having fewer options is not "tiny/skinny women are intrinsically more attractive than tall/athletic or short/curvy women". That's probably not what you're saying, but a tiny part of my brain has been stewing over a tiny part of my feelings' knee-jerk gut reaction to elves having the most options.
But he also finds human women appealing. It seems it isn't a question of weight but rather height. The physical dimensions of a Dwarven female can be off-putting, is all. Nothing like trying to romance Alistair with a dwarf and you're sitting there thinking, "No, I just can't wrap my head around it," as she strains her neck to look up at him. Why would I imagine Cullen wouldn't maybe possibly feel the same way?
Sorry, I've never thought dwarves were particularly pretty. Hey, been playing RPG's for years and years and years, with a husband who plays dwarf characters like there's no tomorrow. I shake my head every time, "You know I'm not going to flirt with your character now." He only nods back, "It's okay, you can find some NPC to get it on with." And we're both happy enough, lol.

I believe so, which is why I am so happy right now. I had totally expected Blackwall to be given the standard "old people are mentors and incapable of romance" treatment, but was pleasantly surprised today.

What is it you're disagreeing with? The dwarves Cullen has encountered tend to be course, rough, drunken and outrageously gregarious, and generally physically unattractive. Did I miss something, that you'd disagree with that? Or are you rather disagreeing with my premise that elves are prettier, as a general rule? Yep I planned my qunari ladys being pretty shy about romantic and sexual stuff actually ^^ I think it'd be cute, big and intimidating qunari being all shy and blushing about romantic stuff XD Too bad that didn'tt work out.

And... wow. My condolences to anyone who was disappointed by this news. But I am glad they finally revealed everything.
Interesting, so Cullen wasn't always going to be a romance. It sucks that not everyone can romance him, but at least we can romance him at all. :/ I'm personally not affected by this, since I'm boring and only ever play humans, but I really do feel sad for everyone else who is bummed out.

It may not make much sense right now but it may make more sense once we get to know this version of Cullen. Who of course I expect to be different in many ways than the few interactions we've had with him in the past.

At the end of the day, Dalish elves are still elves, and Cullen is established to be attracted to them. The fine points of cultural differences between a Circle elf, a city slums elf or a wandering wood elf might escape him, but he is into elves still, despite their poor reputations everywhere.

Did you read of the post? Like the story reasons?
If the devs had simply said Cullen's preferences were for elves and humans and left it like that (and not tried to pretty it up with "the gates are for story reasons! Honest!") I would've mehed and moved on. But story reasons for romancing dalish but not dwarves? Uh...yeah I'm gonna need to see the receipts.
It makes me mad that people are calling Cullen a racist for only being romanceable by humans and elves. Some people don't want to jump into/onto every person they come across. That doesn't make them racist. I guess people need a reason to just hate Cullen. It's not one, but hey, whatever.
I trust the devs when they say that the race gating is there for story reasons and not arbitrary ones. It's a little too much to hope that everyone else would instead of just blindly throwing insults like that around, and yet here I am, also bummed out for the same reasons you are. :/
