he's not at all like we expected. Afraid of the dark. Bad in bed. Can't take a joke.

Bad in bed just means just needs a bit of guidance...

I admit, the reveals have me scratching my head about rearranging things since I never expected BW. Qunari F!quisitor was not very high on my list but I'd thought about one for Cullen later (just because I sometimes like a taller woman if nothing else). But she might be quite interesting with Blackwall (do female kossith worry about breaking their non-kossith partners too, lol?). I honestly can't see a non-Qun being entirely comfortable with IB. I really want to play Zhenya first, I love dwarves. Ack, I foresee me running one of each race simultaneously, it's the only answer...

Lol, yep! That is exactly what is going to be happening to me...I did that for Mass Effect and DA2 so I may end up running several races side by side.

Um, I have a bit of a reputation for this. I had four PTs of DAO finish within 3 weeks, lol.

Mostly I'm just drawing a colossal blank because I don't want to romance him with a Circle mage and am drawing a blank on female non-mage humans since we got the background info.

You can go pretty much anywhere you want with a non-mage Trevelyan. The only fixed points are that she's a noble and her family has strong ties to the Chantry.

Then, you have the tidbit that she was meant to serve the Chantry in some way, whether she liked it or not - probably in the same way as Sebastian's family had "the heir, the spare" and him, your PC might have been the third wheel out, so off to the Chantry with you. "Whether you like it or not" takes you in any direction you want - maybe your Trevelyan is a devout Andrastian and would gladly serve the Maker, maybe she's a rebel and hates having her fate chosen for her, maybe she doesn't really care either way and is just glad to leave home, etc.

"Serving the Chantry" also gives you a lot of options - maybe she was going to be a pious lay sister, maybe just an affirmed sister dabbling in faith (as Sten puts), maybe she'd be content just being a scholar, maybe her ambition was to one day be Grand Cleric. Maybe she was even a Templar in training herself! Or vying to be a Seeker. There are so many ways to serve the Chantry, your PC can have a unique path of her own.

I love this background, to be honest. It gives you leeway to go so many interesting different places.

I was thinking of pairing my female Qunari with Blackwall too. Originally, I was planning to do a female mage elf and romance Cullen, but now that Solas is an option I may romance Cullen with a female human--decisions, decisions,--then i have to decide whether to be a mage on top of it all :P

I think I may do my first playthrough still as Lavellan mage with Cullen---my first run is normally full of mistakes anyway and then when I play again if I mess up anything I can have a perfect playthrough and decide at that point which one of my Inquisitors would be best for Cullen.

Do you think Cullen might romance Josephine similar to Garrus and Tali from ME3 or Fenris and Isabela in DA2 if not romanced?

I do the same thing...if I have time, lol! If I have free time in the summer then I can get PTs done really fast, and still do everything. Normally, I can get a full PT done in a week...four days if I am really trying; it just depends on how much I like the game and how little time I have.

Depends on what kind of student he is. I can't imagine he'd be indifferent to learning, lol.

So I agree with Muse, we just need to wait.

Yeah, planning a character, imagining who they will befriend, and mulling over they will romance has some things in common with buying a house, I think.  (Stick with me here).

It's great to be able to imagine all of your furniture in a house, your plans for redecorating, and making it a home - but you also have to be willing to negotiate or even walk away, or you WILL get burned.

If you enjoy the creative process in PC creation, then roll with it.  However, you have to be prepared to modify or even give up on a character concept, or risk madness.

Or more madness, you know, if you're like me.  :)

It cracks me up that people react like these characters are real people. He's not going to stop being racist (if he was) because someone called him racist (if they did) because he's not actually a person. Someone may have written him that way for the purpose of the story they want to tell, but it's not like we're all making him feel bad. Of course, maybe we could if we could point it out to him in game. That'd be interesting.

I touched on that point in my post in the romance discussion thread. :)

So Cullen is only for elves and humans...truthfully, I expected this might happen if he was the other one race gated, particularly with how Origins went. Though I am interested in what throws him off from the dwarves and qunari.

But now with the reveal of Blackwall, looks like my four main playthroughs are gonna be filled with female Inquisitors...

Hey guys!!!

I just want to say that I'm a dwarf-player and built like a lady dwarf IRL and NO ONE is going to make me feel inferior about it, neither people on the forums who insist that dwarves are too short and ugly to love, nor the lack of validation from Cullen's race-gate. I'm gorgeous and haters can line up to the left. :D

Really, I have to say that I DO think Cullen is racist (hear me out before the hackles get raised!)

I don't believe that Cullen is maliciously racist, definitely not the "kill the infidels!" type of racist. But I CAN believe that he could be the much more well-meaning (though no less ugly) type of racist where he's sincerely wondering things like "Is your blood the same color as mine?" Dwarves and Qunari may just feel so "other" amd so foreign that he doesnt yet know what to think of them. i think he's much more comfortable with the elves and humans that he grew up with his whole life rather than the dwarves and qunari who are much more of a mystery for him. Barring Sten (who he may never have run into) he may never have met a qunari until your inquisitor, and they have a reputation across Thedas for being monsters and fanatics who intend to conquer everything and stomp out the Chant. Dwarves aren't embraced by the Maker and don't even go to the same place as humans when they die, whereas even the Dalish pass into the Fade the same as humans do. I'm reminded of a really sweet comic Aimo did where Alistair came to her warden in tears because we was concerned that she'd return to the Stone when she died and he would be separated from her for eternity. That's a big fear! And Cullen's religion has always been important to him, whether fans have wanted that or not. The Chantry embraces elves in a really limited capacity and it's possible that elven Cullenmancers will have to deal with him trying to convert them all game long (Maker forbid.)

It's really quite possible that it just takes Cullen longer than the length of the game to get over these issues.

And I love Cullen. I'm excited to romance him with a non-dwarf character. I'm not upset by this announcement -- I still have sooo many more options than I did I DAII, and playing a dwarf isn't everything. We'll have a great friendship and I'll still love him a lot, and he WILL love me back even if he isn't giving me all the secks. ;D

Well, those were a special case. I started all of them about Thanksgiving, then had a long winter holiday that I jumped back and forth on them. Had all of them about to the Landsmeet when my holiday was over.

This was a great way to explain how you felt/thought, so great job! With so many people raging I am glad to see someone who is actually thinking...but I can't really blame people for raging...I raged a bit when Vivi was announced to not be an LI, so yeah XD

Just found out that Blackwall is a romance option. I'm super excited. I honestly don't know who to romance first, now. I'm torn between Cullen, Solas and Blackwall.

Nice! So we probably have the same pace or at least pretty close, and the Landsmeet...that is one of my favorite parts in DAO. It kinda game me a feeling of what Orlais had(s) in store for us.

Probably. And yes, I love the Landsmeet, which is particularly interesting when you play a city elf, my favorite Origin.

Cullen being race gated makes the most since right off the bat, sorry Qunari and Dwarven Cullenites. He openly insults Oghren and his people and then calls Qunari heathen.

That does make sense for him. I think it's refreshing that his values aren't being retconned.
