I honestly don't care if Cullen has had previous relationships - I just don't want it to be the focus of his character arc if he hasn't. I loved the Alistair romance, but I don't want Cullen to be just Alistair 2.0. I want him to have a unique arc that doesn't center on his lack of experience if he indeed lacks experience.  :)

Or he needs an Inquisitor to show him that in some contexts it's TOTALLY okay to be in control.

Both! A give and take!

Yeah, I knew her and Varric would be fine, plus she has Donnic to aid her if anything bad happens. I was talking more about the LIs.

In that case ya Isabella was the most stable of them :P

Agreed, but she also had a vulnerability to her AND she does tend to do really stupid things and get herself into needless trouble, so I still worried about her lol.

I have a DEEP connection to her. She was a significant part in helping me to develop expression of my sexuality.

[PONDERS] I think the reason I like to image Cullen as a virgin is because I'm a virgin. It's hardly a big deal for me, I don't really care either way, but I tend to assume, unless specifically stated, everyone is a virgin.

Huh! I did not know that about myself until I really thought about it.  ^_^

I don't feel like that will happen with Cullen. He'll have too much other stuff to worry about in a character arc (or so I would think) to have the same romance focus as Alistair. I'm sure he won't be a Fenris 2.0 or an Anders 2.0 either. The writers seem too conscientious for that.

That's what I meant, too, when I said I assumed I was projecting my own opinions about sex and age onto him. :D That's another thing I love about this series-I am still learning things about myself with the choices I have my warden and hawke make, and my own reactions to them. :)

Tbh, I doubt they'll have him directly tell us whether he's a virgin or not. At most he might say his job left him little time for social interactions/a relationship but I think in general it'll be left purposely ambiguous so that we can head-canon whatever we want to believe.

I'd like this much more than outright stating, honestly. Everyone's happy!

That's the reason why my first ever protagonist in BioWare games is always a self-insert because I liked to see what choices I'd make and see how badly I'd **** up if I was put in that situation. I find it to be very interesting and revealing.

That's actually...interesting. I always roleplay, always. I think maybe I will be me this time-I was getting ready to fire up Origins, in fact. :D

My characters are characters, not myself - but on the other hand, I prefer to play characters I like and relate to, so there are some elements of self in there too.  :)

So not to totally jump the Inquisition gun or anything... but...

5 game plan aside,

Given that there's been a trend in bioware development of starting the next game towards the end of the previous one, Bioware could be starting to work on the fourth installment soon.... if not already.

just a thought.

Okay, I'm waaaay late to this conversation.

I'm the opposite. I'm not a virgin. *snorts* Haven't been for a while. Yet, I don't see Cullen as being terribly experienced. I think he's had some kind of encounter over the years but few and far between. Though I feel like the odd woman out to think that he probably did something before being stationed at Kinloch Hold. I have a couple of ideas for it. One: the young recruits - particular those who will be locked away with the mages - are encouraged to use a brothel before taking up their positions so there's less randy-young'un-sees-all-the-gorgeous-mages, kind of problems. Also, this "brothel tradition" would likely result in the births of at least a few babes that the sex worker can't or won't keep and gives to the Chantry, thus ensuring there are always Chantry foundlings to be groomed to serve them. Sounds harsh, I know, but I wouldn't put it past the Chantry.

My other theory is that Cullen found someone in his youth, during training days and had a little bit of experience then, since he wasn't holed up in a tower at the time and may have had some leeway for going about town. Of course, that's an assumption but I find it possible. For me, the reason he balks at a female mage in DAO is not so much becuase "Oh Maker she wants teh sex!" but more because of the rules of his position. I'd think - assume - that fraternizing with mages is a no-no, given the roles they're in. And since he seemed overly fond of her, any advance from her would be a mighty temptation indeed. One he didn't wish to risk his new career over. Since then, I think if he found a person within the Order that he didn't directly command, he might have had a not-casual but still not-serious thing with. Until he became Knight Captain, that is. Then he may have had to resort to an annual brothel visit or go without entirely. Which I also find plausible. Poor guy... ;)

I really don't want a virgin Cullen. Lacking in experience is fine, but to me it would be odd to be his age and a virgin. It would just kind of feel like my inquisitor has to hold his hand and guide him through the relationship, which isn't exactly appealing in a 30-something year old partner lol

I'm not saying it's lame to be a virgin; if I met someone and he told me he was, I wouldn't care. But in the game, it's not how I want to romance Cullen :P

By the way, this discussion is making me want to finish my current pro-templar playthrough; I think my meanie Felix Hawke is gonna side with the templars for the first time ever! Cullen cut scene, here I come!!!!

Hmmm, well, what if he wasn't a virign, but had never had a serious relationship? Honestly, I have a harder time picturing in a relationship than him going out and, er, scratching an itch, so to say.

All subsequent playthroughs I roleplay, but there's just something really meaningful in doing my first ever attempt of a new BioWare game with a character that looks and behaves like me (within the games limitations, obviously) and have her make the decisions I'd pick. Plus, I find creating the protagonist in my image means I don't cheat by picking an easier/out of character option.

I dunno what it is, but for me, getting horrendously lost in-game, not knowing what's going to happen next and knowing that everything rests on your shoulders feels so much more deeper and urgent when it's literally your neck on the line, lol.

Me too,in fact when it comes to my characters I tend to design them before creating them in game(like writing down their positive/negative traits,or short descriptions of their personalities and looks etc)Although,I purposely design my first character in a way so that I can relate to them the most...It kind of makes the experience more unique.

I like this and I think I will headcanon this for him; it also reminds me a little bit of myself, so it's kind of cool if I could relate to Cullen that way. He is definitely a hard worker, very duty bound, and potentially goal-driven, so yeah, when you live that kind of life, relationships take a back seat.

That's so interesting. I've never done it that way because I am an absolute coward in real life, with terrible social anxiety, so I could not do what the Warden or Hawke would. Perhaps I should make a semi-me, who could actually talk to strangers. Or not-strangers.

I think he's more likely to get an itch if he went out to scratch it.

Yeah, that's what I imagine too. Perhaps back in his early recruit days when they were all still teens, I'm sure they experimented among themselves at some point, like most teens do.

IF he is a virgin then I would presume that would be down to circumstance. Perhaps in his early years as a recruit/new Templar he was naive enough to believe that the Maker would smite him down (like the story Alistair tells the Warden after you shag him). And then later on what with his torture and PTSD and then the heavy workload and subsequent trouble in Kirkwall, THEN the Mage/Templar rebellion and the Fade breach he may not have had any time to even consider sex and/or a relationship. Plus, as he says in DA2 if your Warden was an Amell (which counts for Surana too) that he'd never met "her like" again, so regardless of what race/class/gender your Warden was he obviously goes for a certain caliber of person, the type of person he's never encounter again/before.

(And no I don't mean that he's still hung up on Amell/Surana because he's clearly not since he's confirmed romanceable in DAI!)
