Figure this is the thread for one of my points, Which is that I'm very wary of Cullen. I hope he's changed a lot since we last saw him because otherwise I worry that he'd endanger the mission by antagonizing mages.

Between his writer's interview, Gaider's blog comments, the cinematic screenshot we saw,* and the fact that he's willing to romance a mage, I doubt he'll be antagonizing them any more than he's antagonizing Templars.

* EDIT: which shows him interrupting a fight between angry mages and angry templars, and at least initially taking the harder tone with the templar

Tranquility keeps the mage in question in check.

It makes them useful again, rather then being a danger.

It's a good process.

It's also a horrifying abuse of everything that makes a person a person.

There is a fanfiction someone wrote that David Gaider said was very accurate about Cullen's development. By this point, he doesn't know where to stand with the situation, because he experienced the extremes of both the mages and templars. And since they didn't add class gating, therefore romance him with a mage, I am sure Cullen isn't going to endanger the mission by antagonizing mages. In fact, I believe there was a post made where he says that they aren't templars anymore. So, by this point, he doesn't even considered himself a templar.

And even before this, if you side with the templars, Cullen did state (if you asked of his opinion) that the three surrendering mages would've already used blood magic if they were blood mages. Therefore, he believes some of the mages can be saved, even mentioning Fereldan's Circle and how there were still some saved.

Edit: ninja'd on the interview part.

We probably will have to kill or make other mages join us. I'd imagine that the one we might have to use the Rite on would be Alexius, if you don't kill him, perhaps. Or, maybe there is a leader in the rebel mage's faction that we have the option to put down.

Also, I wonder if Cullen is the one to perform the Rite on our orders.

Then Elidri's definitely not doing it. I don't think he'd appreciate it.

You know what would be hell for me?

A choice between additional CC Options Pack (with long hair) OR Customization Pack for Skyhold -  Nice home or nice hair, how does someone make that kind of choice? :crying:

Still hoping for an Iconic Armour Pack. Like Isabela's, Fenris', Tallis' (seriously, give me Tallis' armour).

If you're a bit more specific about your concerns, maybe we can help alleviate them better? Personally, I'm not sure why he'd antagonise a reasonable mage. Cullen's for the Order's core ideal, which is to protect mages (from themselves and others) and non-mages.

Not really no?

It can be requested and given freely, it also is imposed upon criminal mages and those too weak to face a harrowing.

All in all, its a pretty good thing.

Honestly execution is a more humane punishment.

Okay, Cullenites. This is getting too spoilerish for me now and I won't be around that much anymore. I will still peek with one eye closed though because I don't want to miss the 3000 pages celebration. I will also check my private messages and the social groups. Speaking of which, it would be awesome if we could get this

Spoiler
thing going :).

Ah yes. There is FAQ on the first page which I believe can help you there. :)

If you don't want to, know that he'd been subjected to extreme amounts of psychological, emotional, and perhaps even physical torture during Uldred's rising. His beliefs aren't to be supported there, but perhaps you can see why he was pushed to that extreme? And that by Act 3, his views had changed considerably. :)

No?

Because a corpse has no utility, beyond that tranquil are still alive.

They still posses free will, they can think, act, in fact tranquils are about the only type of mage that aren't stuck in a circle.

They can leave.

I would think that Cullen would be the more qualified, although, I have to wonder if Cassandra could also perform the rite.

As a high level Seeker, I think Cass is also legally able to perform the Rite. I could honestly see either one do it.

Ah well I've only ever sided with the mages.

I've only sided with them too, but I did hear that he believes three mages that try to surrender should only be taken in, not killed.

Also, take this as a note: Cullen stood up to Meredith, no matter if you sided with the mages or not. So, I don't believe your thoughts on mages or templars is going to affect him much, but it also depends on the circumstances.

I replayed the game again, and I noticed that the only time he was really big against mages as in Act 1. The other acts, he began to mellow.

And the whole "kill everyone in the tower" part...remember, he watched his fellow templars being slaughtered by blood mages and demons. He went through torment, and he honestly didn't believe any of them could be saved. That follows through in Act 1, which took place one year after Origins. Act 2 and Act 3 carried over in number of years, and by Act 3, he came the conclusion that serving Meredith may not be the same as serving the Order.

I play a mage, not particularly pro-mage though. Regardless, I play the role that I'd rather die than be tranquil, I don't think for my pc it's going to matter the crime, tranquility is off the table if the death penalty is there as an option.

Take the pros and cons of Tranquility to another thread. That sort of thing can get quite heated and it's not really something I think anyone wants. :D

Well, depending on who is undergoing the Rite, I don't see why he wouldn't be willing to go through with it. He is our military leader, and we are passing judgment on a person.

I don't think you're a Mage anymore once you're made tranquil.

Also, the Tranquil are like kids w/ ADD on Ritalin.

Here's the link to the FAQ. It's only the fourth post or something, but it can still take a while to scroll down.

Fair enough. But if they're truly monstrous, I'd rather just kill them outright. Even if not, I'd rather kill them. If it's reversed, they could be a very dangerous individual.

What about New Hot Templar Guy?  :)  (If Im not mistaken the hot new guy is a templar?)  He could do the Rite.  Unless he's only there if you side with the templars, in which case...

And @Caja:

See you around!  You shall be missed, but don;t get spoiled beyond what you want!  That would make me sadder than you leaving the boards.  I mean, you leaving the boards makes me sad, but I would be sadder if you got spoiled beyond where you wanted to be, because that would make you sad.... ridiculous run on sentence HO!

So I guess that Skyhold article answers why Cullen's room had a big hole in the roof.
