As much as I'd have loved Vega to be an LI, whoever looked at those Citadel scenes and said "yeah, this is perfectly appropriate content" must have been out of their tree. I nearly threw up when I saw it on youtube. (Femshep+Garrus 4lyfe etc)

Now there we agree! Honestly, there was a lot unpleasant about playing FShep.

I think those particular folks have a slightly skewed definition of morality

In terms of the fraternisation angle? In a sense I see Cullen as being slightly superior to the Inquisitor at least at first. He's an integral part of the Inquisition, you have no choice in the matter, and Inquisitors don't appear to hold the power of death or dismissal over him in the way that the companions can be :)

Indeed!! Sometimes a head-desk just doesn't cut it in these situations lol.

Somebody obviously thought it was a good plan

Fraternization, gating, issues from DA2. It feels like I'm always asking you guys to help me fix a mental issue. And that's not to fair to you. You should be squeeing not dealing with a skeptic.

I wrote another thing!

Based off the news re: Tranquility that we got yesterday.

Plenty of Cullen in the story!

No real warnings or anything too squicky.

Judgment

Squeeing isn't all we're here for :) if talking it out with us helps clarify/assuage your concerns then it can only be a good thing :)
I see Cullen as being a deeply flawed character, but one whose strengths have allowed him to grow as a person, and as someone who the Inquisitor can now have a direct impact on after two games of watching him struggle and grow independently :)

I was a bit sad that the LI's are less likely to start the flirting on their own initiative this game, but I hope they make up for it later on in the game by being forwards. I don't want to feel like my Inquisitor is Johnny Bravo, hunting them down

Of course, b/c that worked out so well last time. No one had a melodramatic freak out when, oh, say Anders made a pass at someone's straight PC.

Are you talking about the part where FemShep coerces James into having sex w/ her?

That was BAD... someone mentioned it,  so I looked it up on youtube thinking "It can't possibly be worse than Jacob romance"... boy was I wrong

We know so little about his character growth with any great detail. For me, spam clicking him and siding with the Templars in DA2 really helped me to recognise some changes to his attitude, that helped alot in judging what growth he is capable of. Also the wee snippets we have from the blog and his intro on the homepage, without going into great detail, again show shifts in his general attitude.

I also quite often think on how my own personal opinions and attitudes have changed about various things in the last years, I figure if my opinions/outlooks can shift, so can a characters that's been written with a very specific growth arc.

Only my own opinion ofc.

You are welcome to vent your worries, if we can help alleviate any of them, we will :)

Not to mention apparently the Maker needs to be fitting in this little menage-a-trois somewhere too lol! (Please excuse my lack of accents on the French, I have a nightmare adding them on the phone)

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I've never been able to get my brain around the idea of a (required) celibate priesthood in this religion...

If Cullen wasn't a problematic character in some ways, I don't think he would be nearly as interesting or would have inspired such a devoted fanbase.  If the Dev's had simply picked a character and given them every traditional masculine virtue then he'd just end up being bland.  Cullen feels like a real person to me because he has a unique perspective based upon his experiences that I can understand even if I don't necessarily agree with him.  It helps we've seen some of his story as players through the past games.  :)

Well I like to think that exposure would be the best cure for the melodramatic people. If it happened to them more often they'd be less shocked

And yes, that incredibly awkward, horrendous set of scenes

We all have things we try to make sense of in the game. And skepticism is usually healthy. It would be very easy for one of the romances to feel very inappropriate in this situation. Fraternization in this case doesn't bother me (and thankfully not the writers apparently, otherwise we'd have NO romances), but obviously it does you, and that does matter. I don't see the advisors and companions as in the same relationship as, say, an officer and rank-and-file soldier, mostly because it's a far more voluntary relationship, and the power relationship is presumably very different. Think of it this way, would you be bothered by a king or queen marrying one of his or her own nobles? I see the power relationship far closer to that than to the more absolute power of an officer over a private.

Will they get used to it before BW goes bankrupt?

FemShep was a total predator in those scenes and James was a bit childlike in those scenes.

I just hope he hasn't done all his soul searching and healing off screen between games.

I'll probably just have to *gasp* wait for the game. I tried to think up a Quizzy and just ended up with another one who's likely to climb the wall.

Going back through the thread, everyone was posting their Inquisitors a little earlier and I feel late to the party, so I'm posting mine now because... yes.  Also to encourage anyone else who missed the train to post their Quizzies too. Sharing is fun!

Spoiler

This is Ariana Trevelyan, Marcher of father, Antivan of mother. She is primarily an archer, here depicted with a sword because this doll maker discriminates against rogues. She's 29~31, only recently sent to the Chantry to put a lid on a life of excesses in her youth (namely, she was once in Sebastian Vael's former bling ring/Super Rich Kids crew), that's left her a 30 year old spinster with a damaged reputation that no noble wants to marry their son to.

Raised a devout Andrastian in a noble house with deep ties into the Chantry, Ariana is largely Chantry and Templar leaning, as that's all she's ever known - her older brother (my Dorian-romancing manquisitor ;)) was taken to the Circle when she was very young, so she never had much experience dealing with magic first hand. (and now she even has a glowy green hand of her own!) It will be interesting to see how she deals with befriending mages for the first time in her life and listening to their side of the story, and the conflicting feelings that might arise if/when there are quests where the mages make more sense than the Templars. I expect this playthrough to lead me to a lot of moral dilemmas and to make a lot of questionable choices as she grows and changes through the story. I'm already loving it.

As far as romancing Cullen, since Ariana is far less experienced with real life mages (as opposed to Chantry Horror Story mages), I actually think New Moderate Cullen might turn out to be the voice of reason in their first few interactions, bringing his experience with both sides' equal potential for good and evil against her pre-conceived notions of Right and Wrong, so a few sparks may fly there. But eventually they want the same things (peace between the warring factions so the Chantry can rebuild anew, the hide of whoever caused the massacre for all the innocent lives lost, and a way to stop the whole demons pouring out of the sky deal), so I'm fairly confident they'll see eye to eye and develop respect for each other very quick, and I hope that will eventually turn into affection as they get to know each other better. The biggest wrench I foresee in their budding relationship is that Ari has some rejection issues (being the youngest child no one much cared about after the heir, the spare, and the mage son we don't talk about because our family never had a mage, no sir), and that manifests in her sleeping around a bit until she figures Cullen is The One - but I hope Cullen can see that a grown-ass woman is free to do whatever she wants with her life, and doesn't get too hung up on her flings before him. I hope we're able to get a little nookie from other LIs before locking in with your end goal, like we could in the previous games; otherwise I'll just have to headcanon that she had a minor fling with Blackwall, made out with Josephine in the library, but eventually figured out Cullen was there all along, the temperance she'd always needed but never found. I like taking the long way around my romances, the trial and error make the endgame feel even sweeter.

So that was it for my main Quizzie~ If anyone else also missed the earlier round, keep posting them! I love seeing what people come up with. ^_^
