I agree in one sense, but based on what I have seen in his character, I doubt he'd be rougher. Granted, he might have much more stamina and sexual drive, but I doubt he'd do it rough.

I'm seriously embarrassed to be talking about this and if slight sex talk makes you uncomfortable please skip my post here but it is more a psychological evaluation then a sexy times one lol.

-----------------
From journal/psychology articles and different studies that I've read and numerous patients and friends that I have talked to men like Cullen have a tendency (BUT NOT ALWAYS) to much prefer others being rough towards them (in bed) then rough to others (in bed lol). Or I suppose the term submissive could also be used. Usually men who are in positions of authority tend not be the super aggressive one or take the lead too often. This is also true of many people who suffer from PTSD (but again not always). With the authority aspect many times because they have to constantly be in command in the outside world giving up power and dominance can be an incredible relief or pleasure for them. The PTSD aspect is much much more convoluted and usually has to do with completely letting go and allowing the situation and trust of another person take effect (and many other aspects that would take forever to go into). Now again this isn't true for everyone, and while I am a psychologist I am NOT a Sex therapist so this isn't my area of expertise so I don't have years of study on it. I just thought it might be an interesting thing to mention and I'm sorry if it made anyone uncomfortable. :). Also if you like thinking Cullen would be dominate then absolutely think that! That's whats fun about sexual imagination! Urgh sexual imagination? Man that made me sound like a tool lol!
Also I want to say this one more time-this doesn't necessarily apply to everyone in a position of authority or command OR all people with PTSD

I'm pretty sure they just said "an even spread" and 3/3/3 was fan interpretation.

I would personally tend to think it's splitting hairs and it's probably the same thing. What else would an even spread mean?

That said, I think we still need to be careful about making sure we don't incorrectly attribute things to the devs that weren't actually said even if they are likely, because that confuses the issue of what is and isn't confirmed.  :)

exactly. and it is splitting hairs, but without the rest of the sentence, or whatever he was saying, and direct quotes--then I can't embrace it as a Thing, yet. And we're basing alot of headcanon and organizing of party on it.

Watching the non companion romances being a thing take off the way it has is alarming. This is one thing that has never been mentioned as a potential option. We're just going off of what the ME team did in one game. Yet it's being referenced as if it's a foregone conclusion.

With what we're basing our ideas that Cullen is a npc romance on, it's really just as likely that Cullen is a full companion. That is equally, if not more likely, than all this.

I think it's an educated guess based on how we have a British accent to pick from. Personally, I hope they ARE Ferelden just to give the non-mage humans a little bit of friction in some places. It's no fun if only mages, elves, dwarfs and Qunari see friction! (Of course it's different levels of friction, but still...)

Oh! I like that. The inquisitor being from Fereldan would add sum nice spice. Esp. if they do it up right.

I forgot abt the accents. There's gonna be british and american, right? You know, the default last name Trevellyan sounded more orlesian-y to me. Maybe quizzy was born in orlais, but grew up in fereldan?

Hmm, "Trevellyan" kinda reminds me of "Travellin".  The Travellin' Inquisitor.

Trevelyan is actually a name used in Britain, it's a Cornish surname, so I could definitely see it fitting someone from Ferelden.  :)

Since Ferelden is based on England and Trevelyan is a Cornish surname, I'd say it makes more sense for them to be a Fereldan.

Edit: And I got ninja'd to the post!

Tbh, I think GW is a companion and a warrior. I also think that if any one goes Rogue class, it would be Cullen.

However, I'm not convinced of this written in stone "3/3/3" thing. Is there vid out with Laidlaw saying this? I would like to see some context with this. Cuz laidlaw said "even spread", but I don;t know what angle he was coming from with that.. Could he also mean even spread as in an even availability of classes to make sure your party is balanced?

Eh, regardless, I'm not sold on 3/3/3 being set in stone. Gaider did throw some doubt on assuming how many warriors there were, or Who would be a warrior class. And DA has never had such a precise split in classes. And I'm not sold on the non companion romances being a thing either.

I just don't wanna be to quick to kick Cullen into the kitchen and tell him to make me a sandwich.

Could somebody tell me how do you pronounce that, please?

I hope the Inquisitor can be from Ferelden. I'm reading TME right now, and I would hate to be an Orlesian.  Besides, I can't imagine a Dragon Age game without a loyal mabari.

treh-VELL-yan is probably most common, but some people say it more like treh-VILL-yan - depends on accent.

It's in the song "Fields of Athenry," if you want to hear the name. They pronounce it at around 0:30.

Quick question for everyone: why do you like Cullen / what attracts you to his character?  For me personally I think it's the fact that despite all of the crap that he has been through he has (or rather seems to have) gotten through it all.  It makes me wonder just how easy or difficult it has been for him to get over the fact that Meredith, a figure whom he obviously respected, was a fruit-loop.

It wasn't stated either way which nationality the human PC will be. The belief that the human PC is from Ferelden is based on the default accent of the human PC, which is British.
While I believe that the PC will be from Ferelden, it's not sure.

Well, the fact that he resisted demon torture for weeks is impressive.
While that events influenced his views, he didn't fall in abusing his powers like other templars in Kirkwall.
Plus, his character has a lot of room of development after watching the sora of the templars side.
One of the things I think Bioware missed is showing his character development on the mage side too. I think they should've shown in a clearer way that he didn't support the Annulment in Kirkwall, but Act 3 was in my opinion so rushed in development that it can't be helped.

I started to like him in DA2. First I started to like how he was one of most reasonable templars in Kirkwall although he was oblivious about many things ^^; I just had fun talking to him in gallows. Then I just liked his character more when I saw him more and thought more what kind of character he is. I just like his personality overall and what kind of character grow and story he has had so far.

I like it when characters are not „perfect“, when they can develop and change. He has said things my (first) Warden or Hawke wouldn‘t agree with (and my first Inquisitor wouldn‘t agree as well), but his reasons for believing these things were understandable. And he wasn't unreasonable, even though he might have more reasons to be than other templars. In the end he did the right thing simply because it was the right thing to do and he knew it. I‘m very interested in knowing how he changed since he stood up to Meredith. Has he left the templars, was he forced to leave or is he still a templar? Has his opinion about mages changed in any way? And his opinion about templars? What will happen with the lyrium addiction? And what about his background, why did he decide to become a templar in the first place? What about his family? What about his life outside of his duty, if he even had one? How has he dealed with what happened to him in the first (and second) game? There are so many things we don‘t know about him.
I guess these are the reasons why I like him, if I can put it to words: I wonder about his development and am really interested to know what kind of person he is behind the templar we learned about in the first two games. Not to mention that I'd love to learn more about the templars as well.

I'm going to try to participate in this conversation without immediately diving into some fan fiction.

Because...oh my gosh.

*snip pic*

In as much as I can see good reason for us to think that Cullen would bringeth the bow-chicka-wow-wow, I would expect him to be romantically akin to Alistair. Yes, Cullen was a templar for longer and has a lot more pent-up frustration. I think that would just make his first real relationship something far more sentimental. He's been waiting, what, thirty-something years to touch a face? Hold a hand? Kiss sweet lips? I don't see him going buck wild.

I am hoping his romance isn't all that much like Alistair's (and I say this as someone who cannnot seem to not romance that fool. *grin*), because in Origins, Alistair is, what, about 20? And Cullen's gonna have a good 10-15 years on that.  I'd like to think that, while Cullen may not be the smoothest of romantic gents, we will still get a romance more in line with his age, maturity and experience. I think, though, that this may just be me showing *my* age. :D

It's potentially longer than 'weeks' too. If you're a mage and head to the circle, there's dialogue that states that you've been away for almost a year. Now I don't think Uldred has been screwing the hell out of things for that entire 'almost year', but weeks certainly has the potential to turn into months with that? Unless there's dialogue that states how long the tower was getting screwed over for? There might well be and I just can't remember...

For me it was an origin thing. I had mixed feelings about Fereldan Circle, but I still felt like it was my warden's family. And Cullen was like a childhood friend, and then Uldred pretty much ruined that friendship. And it was obvious that nobody was going to do anything to help Cullen, even Greagoir basically told him to shut up and go to his room. So I was really heartbroken for a while, until DAII came out, and I saw that Cullen was recovering, that he didn't go crazy or anything. And that, although he changed, and won't be so idealistic again, he still wants to protect people, including mages. I think he was doing the best he could, considering his background, Meredith's influence, and the fact that in Kirkwall every second mage we encounter is a crazy blood mage or an abomination.

I don't think it lasted for months. Both mages and templars would have ran out of food and water, including Wynne's apprentices and the children they managed to rescue. I don't think it lasted longer than a week. Which is more than enough, because Uldred arranged quite a show of butchering and breaking the templars, who were Cullen's friends and colleagues, and attempted to break Cullen as well. Even a couple of hours of that nightmare would change anyone forever.

Hmm, based on the accent choice... and that the accents don't seem to vary by race, I don't really see why this points to Ferelden as compared to anywhere else. Heck, Isabela's and Duncan's accents were "british" sounding and they're from Rivain.

I'd have to disagree on at least the food thing-- that's not to say what I think is right or that you're wrong on the week thing (and I'm CERTAINLY not saying the longer the torture the better or that just a couple of hours of mental torture is something to scoff at!), but considering the tower had to house a LOT of mages, I imagine it has a damn plentiful food storage. More than enough to last a long while.

Sadly, we just weren't given enough information to make an GOOD educated guess, but... I think I remember at least the Templars talking about how they were running out of supplies?
