Yeah Cullen won't be tortured because he would've already killed all of the Venatori by himself.
That and his giant fluffy shoulders would clip into his face if he was chained up like that.

Yeah, I bet Cullen and Josie won't even have the same torture scene as Leliana, if at all.
To be honest, I think it was kinda dumb for Leliana to try and spy on a group of mages like that, especially ones that have a metric crap ton of demons under their employ.
I'm going to try diplomacy first playthrough. High risk, high reward.

Agreed, although that would be the Inquisitor's fault for sending her in there, LOL! So far I'm thinking Cullen is likely the best option, but I'd need to see first hand how these events led to us to send one of them out in the first place, and how reasonable Alexius actually is (presumably we've encountered him prior to that one scene) before I make any concrete decisions.

He seems....unsure and scared witless of the Elder One. And I think he's a grieving father who couldn't let go of his son.

sorry for the irrelevant picture, but i had this in mind after i read your post (:

Cullen definitely seems the best choice for that scenario.
Just let him and his templars besiege the castle.
I think Alexius is a valuable asset, if he can be coopted. And the demo suggests it's possible.

Not my fault that Leliana decided to get herself captured. ![]()
All the advisors will probably take different approaches to Redcliffe. Cullen might try an armed assault and might try to blockade the castle and send your team in.
Josie might try to...parley with the Venatori, though I sure as hell am not taking that approach. These guys need to be taken down, and fast. No room for diplomacy.
Here is what I've been mulling over this morning...
So far we've seen Cullen play a man who has tried to be less "shoot first and chat later", no? As our military advisor, will he aim for a diplomatic solution first before resulting to force or do you think his character has changed to the iron fist over the velvet glove? I seem to envision him talking things over with the other two advisors before finally coming to the conclusion that there is no other way but brute force.... unless, of course, it's an obvious military action that is needed.
I vaguely remember a dev saying Redcliffe torture scene depended on several things, one being help hired for different advisors at Skyhold, two being who you sent and why. So my guess is if you don't have enough soldiers, scouts etc, that the advisor has to go instead...and that ends badly. The other thing was why...I remember this being caused by an assassin that we are trying to stop, so we have three choices. Send a military detachment to catch him. Send an assassin to kill him. Or to warn his target, the King of Nevarra. Now to me the third option looks the best...Jospehine off you go!
I could be remembering the wrong scenario though...didn't save the page, but it was just after the torture scene was released.
For the Nevarra situation, I'll probably take Leliana's path. Eliminate the threat with minimum fuss.
The advisor/management part will be so much fun!
@Jtav...I'm opting for Josephine because I want the King to owe the inquisition a favour. If I take out the assassin myself he might think I was lying...but if he sends his own people to do it he'll get evidence and owe me one....
Ah, but the little blurb says he might be in thrall to blood magic. Better safe than sorry.
I foresee a mix of politics and espionage for my mage. Cullen...gets to stand around and look pretty?
Provided he is willing to listen. Maybe Josephine won't succeed.
@ Milady...just don't do it on a playthrough where you are romancing him as a mage...it may end badly ![]()

Definitely running with Leliana on this one. Can't afford to hope that the king will see the light of we tell him the truth, especially if the Mortalitasi and the Venatori are working jointly on this, as this seems to suggest. And it's not like we could declare war on Nevarra, if we chose Cullen. I would rather just use Leliana to eliminate the guy.Ah, but the little blurb says he might be in thrall to blood magic. I'd say that the only possible benefit would be getting the Mortalitasi on our side, which could be an enormous help. They basically run the show anyways. So if that Venatori guy is stepping in on their turf, we might at least get a nod from them.I still want to hear Cullen's idea, but I do think Leliana offers the best option right now. Plus, I'm not sure if the King's assistance is as good as it might seem.
"The current ruler of the nation is Markus Pentaghast, a old man of weak health and uncertain sanity. His rule has been condemned by those who claim his Mortalitasi advisers are ruling through him, much as Ionas's did so long ago. Pentaghast and Van Markham relatives alike are vying to replace the old king, but some say it is time for the two ruling families to cede power to a new family. Ferdinand Pentaghast, younger brother of Markus, is the next in line to rule. However he is also old and has no interest in ruling, and neither brother have any known children. The future of the Pentaghast dynasty hangs in the balance."

It seems like he's a very weak King, and even then, he could die before he can grant the favour, if he even can.
@Milady, the devs said that it would have repercussions. We see a change in Leliana afterwards, she is colder, more ruthless and less mage tolerant. I'm not taking the risk if in a romance with Cullen and a Mage....but do try it out for me and let me know....for science and the Cullenites!

Its a shame Cassandra gave up her claim to the throne.
She is apperantly the last Pentaghast who is still in good health and probably able to produce heirs.
