I read on the wiki, it may have been mentioned in TME, that they play this really sadistic 'game' with human captives. Nah, City Elves are my undisputed favourite.

It was actually mentioned in the novel. In some of the "graduating classes" of Chevaliers, they go to the slums during the night and kill some of the elves who had "committed crimes".

Spoiler

I haven't got to that point yet, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

I support the use of spoiler tags when discussing the book.  :P  But my short answer to that question is 'no'... not to prolong it.

LOL Except it's still quoted by Lola.

Yes, let's keep in mind not all of us have finished the book yet...  :)

Gah, there's so much I'd love to say but a) this is all sooooo off-topic and b ) spoilerific

However, reading the book did get me wondering again about which writer wrote which companions. I adore Weekes' characters, I've been a fangirl of his since ME1, so I was thrilled to learn he's working on DAI ^.^ Reading Felassan got me yearning for a new character of his to love in-game... Though I somehow doubt he'd write Cullen (yes, yes, if he's a companion, yadda yadda)... My guess is Iron Bull or Sera, based solely on what dismally little we know about them.

So who do you all hope wrote Cullen or do you not have a preference?

Luke is writing Sera. People do seem to think Weekes is writing the Iron Bull, (slightly OT to this OT, will he still be writing the majority of the TME characters do you think?). Gaider has Cassandra and a mysterious other. Kirby had Varric and Vivienne.

Edit
And Sheryl definitely DOESN'T have Cullen.

I think Cullen was probably written by David, since Hepler left.

I would imagine that Patrick is definitely writing TME characters, since he'd probably have an easier time finding their voice. Same with David and the Asunder characters.

Or even started it, much to my shame, it's still sitting on my desk in it's Amazon package.

Should I read Asunder first? I've gotten so behind...

Cullen is going to have some very strong opinions about The Game, I'd wager.

Actually now that I've read both, I wish I had read The Masked Empire first and Asunder second! :)

They both technically happen around the same time, within a few days of each other, more or less. So either is good. But to be honest, I enjoyed TME more than Asunder. I'd actually recommend doing Asunder first, and then tackling TME.

I think he'll find it ultimately silly, but the Divine is supposedly a master of the Game. So I'm not sure. Depends where his loyalties lie.

Even if that's common knowledge, though, I think he'd probably see it as an unfortunate necessity rather than a good situation.

Poor Cullen would fail so miserably at the game. That guy is about as guileless as they come! XD

I think Celene would get a kick out of him. So would Leliana, probably.

1. I like to think Weekes would handle any TME characters we encounter, but I'm not sure how they divvie things up in the writers pit. I seem to recall that for ME3 different writers handled different specific plot lines and that is how minor characters were handled, with input from leads/help from others. But I could be wrong or the DA team may well handle it differently, who knows.
2. I can definitely see Weekes writing IB and, if so, I'm pretty sure I'll love the companion... Even if I wish he was a rogue, still ;)

You know, I asked this question only to realize I don't even know the full writing team and who all has written whom previously. Whoops.
Anyway, I have to admit, I'm kind of hoping someone "new" (as in hasn't-written-Cullen-in-the-past) takes on Cullen, if only for a fresh take.

Cheers for the suggestions everyone. Right, let's see what the Mages have been doing before delving into the nuances of Orlesian political intrigue!

Hmm since I haven't read TME I'm not sure what kind of game you guys are exactly talking about but I'd think Cullen prefers being straight-forward and honest rather than scheming.

This likely will happen regardless. Sheryl Chee isn't writing him and Hepler is gone (altho she did do some writing before she left).

It's nothing specific to TME. It's referring to the "Grand Game" in Orlesian politics. Pretty much scheming and backstabbing each other without getting caught. So in that sense, I can easily see Cullen getting annoyed over Orlesian politics.

This is also what I would think. Regardless of where he is or to whom he is loyal, he just doesn't really seem cut out for the Game. I would expect him to eschew something so underhanded and fraught with dishonesty and manipulation.

I agree. I'd recommend Asunder first, then TME. I enjoyed the latter more, but Asunder does have some plot gems and, like TME, is likely to introduce you to the key players in the Mage/Templar/Chantry conflict, just as TME does for the Orlesian civil war.
I'm personally more interested in Mage/Chantry/Templar stuff than I am Orlesian nobles and their idiocy or, really, elves (don't hurt me elf-fans!!!) -- but I was more into TME as a book than I was Asunder. Perhaps because Asunder...

Here's the wiki article on the Game. Hope it helps!
