I read romances, rather a lot, and Cullen is a pretty classic type. But the match I'm used to seeing is some physically unremarkable or even disabled or disfigured. Someone unwanted by the world at large. Which is why the gating threw me--a knight in shining armor paired with a RL Adaar or Cadash equivalent is a powerful fantasy. So I might try for the ugliest human mage I can. Scars if the CC has them. Someone very direct and pragmatic. But an absolute sweetheart like Cullen is hard to resist even if you're convinced the bards would put him with your cousins who are in the line of succession.
Please don't laugh.
If I laugh, it'll be with you (in delight), not at you. I'm glad you've thought of a personality that you want as a LI for Cullen. I'm not a romance novel person myself, but that doesn't mean I don't understand the appeal to other people. My personal taste is just for a comfortable sexuality, but romance without drama (not a very good explanation but that kind of explains it). I find small, everyday gestures like putting a flower next to someone's coffee cup in the morning or just a brief touch and smile in passing to be more convincing than dramatically presenting a big bouquet of roses (those usually make me wonder if the person did something they're trying to buy their way out of, and no, I know that isn't always the case; a friend gets flowers from her husband all the time just because.) I'm hoping Cullen's romance is a nice mix of things.
I tend to try to create attractive characters who defy conventional standards. One of my favorites was female, a little on the plump side (or as much as that CC would allow), with a set of long scars on the side of her face. And she was bald. What I found funny was that people constantly told me they liked her, as long as she was wearing a hat. Take off the hat, and they'd freak for about half an hour (how could you create a woman without hair!), then they'd get used to it and like her again.
