For sure! I'm tired of being a special snowflake with cool powers without there being an obvious and immediate price. I know being a Grey Warden kills you prematurely but you still have a good 10-30 years or more before you have to take your calling, but something like our tear closing powers is the perfect opportunity to see it gradually cause us problems the bigger that massive fade tear gets etc.

To whom much power is given, much is required.

True. On the other hand, dying while finally closing it makes continuing to play after the finale a bit unlikely :P

I reckon there might at least be the option to die at the end, even if it's just a "game over you ballsed up" cutscene or something. I know the devs said that there are some "failure" cutscenes like that. Seems only fair that if we want our hero to die then the option should be there... of course, that forfeits the chance to play after the main story is finished, but that's only fair.

I don't think we will die either, but I would like to have closing the Breach require some kind of sacrifice, to have saving the world come at a cost. I speculate that perhaps the nature of the Fade itself might be changed forever due to this event.

Well, at least they'll decorate the Fade a little better now that they've all been running around in the real world properly, LOL!

I dunno that the Wardens don't pay an immediate price in some form, btw. The HN joins as the price of escaping Highever to warn the brother, then is denied a chance to search for him. For both elf origins and both dwarf origins, it's also a join or die, in all cases essentially losing your family/clan. And it's even odds what Greagor would have done to you if you hadn't been recruited (actually, the mage Wardens may have been the only ones without a major sacrifice to join since I doubt most mage Wardens really were upset to leave the Circle).

I mean physically. They get nightmares and stuff but generally the biggest issue they face is when they have to face their calling in terms of... ah, nevermind I can't be arsed to explain myself this evening.

I have this fear, that closing the rifts permanently means  we are going to have to enter the fade and NOT come back......or.....we can sacrifice Cole to do it lol

Understood, I wasn't thinking just in terms of physical prices.

I want to know how the hell Sandal saw all of this coming. Cause he's clearly hooked into the same power Eleni Zinovia was.

Eleni: "The prison is breached. I see the encroaching darkness. The... the shadow will consume all..."

Sandal: "One day the magic will come back. All of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part, and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see."

I do wonder if we'll have to send someone in, or send yourself and whoever goes in won't come out again. Cole would likely be the best choice, and being a spirit/demon I reckon he could maybe even get out again somehow, or at least we'd still get to see him when we dream in the Fade or something... unless it kills him, in which case I'd be gutted.

The kid's mad enough to do it as well.

I want the power to come at a price. That's a pretty powerful theme, in my opinion.

Kinda like we have to seal the Breach from the other side. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to do that. Cause, first and foremost, short of riding a dragon, the Breach is up in the sky, so it's kinda hard to reach it with our mark.

Maybe the Elder One?

Maybe the Elder One?

Yup. The Elder One was perhaps imprisoned within the deepest bowels of the Fade, and when the Breach occurs, "the prison is breached". Or, perhaps the prison wall is truly the Veil itself, and the only way for him to be truly freed is for the Veil to fall in its entirety, hence the necessity of making such an enormous Breach.

Heck, even the name "the Breach" kinda denotes how much the Veil locks entities within the Fade.

They've said there are about 40 variations on the ending, I think? So there may be ways to be successful and survive, and others that are successful and die (or a companion dies or stays in the fade). And of course, the failures. I admit, I've wondered if one of these variations isn't the reason Solas is so tightly gated.

I bet we have to go up in that bloody beam... I'll start having flashbacks, I swear it.

You can die and still play after the end of the game but you have to play as a ghost. And then you can romance Cole.

Yeah I am thinking it would be something he would do, just to stop you from having to do it yourself.

Exactly, something that can only be done from the other side, but also meaning it closes your escape.

As long as we don't have to suffer a RGB ending of ME3 or the original Fallout 3 ending minus Broken Steel, where we were forced to sacrifice ourselves by walking into a radiation soaked chamber, despite having numerous companions who were immune to radiation.

I have no problems with us being killed in certain endings if it makes sense, but not if it requires stretching the plot to facepalming levels to force us to make a sacrifice. If I didn't recruit or spare someone and they could have helped me survive, well, that sucks for me, I'll have to remember that on my next playthrough! But if I die because of something that was easily preventable, not so much.

I'd prefer it if we had a Suicide Mission type ending, where we survived and got the best ending if we did everything right over the course of the game, not just as the result of some last minute decision on our part.
