I'm sorry, but I'm angry. I honestly do not think that Cullen should have been a romance option, if the huge divergence in availability that we have now was the direct result of that.

I think that's a bit petty to say someone shouldn't be an option just because you don't have the same amount

Yeah, I was gonna do Dalish but then I realised that I'd have to have facial tattoos which I really don't want LOL! Well, that and I'm not keen on the Dalish in general. I was hoping for a city Elf and/or a circle Elf.

I'm not a huge fan of the Dalish either, but the elf models in DA:I are so beautiful that I really wanted to play an elf.  Between figuring out what my Inquisitor will be like and reading Masked Empire, I've actually learned a lot more about elven lore.  And I think I've managed to find a way to play a Dalish Inquisitor that's lore-consistent but won't drive me up the freaking wall.

The Lavellan clan sounds pretty isolated, but even Dalish have to eventually trade with others.  My Inquisitor is one of their scouts, but she's also their negotiator on the rare occasions that they deal with humans.  All the humans she's ever met have been merchants, tradesmen, and farmers--normal people who are probably more afraid of her than she is of them :D She's decided that most humans aren't anything to fear or resent as a result.  The Keeper sent her as a spy to the peace summit because she has the most experience interacting with humans and is the least likely to fly off the handle.

We don't know what made them go with such a big divergence, but I don't think Cullen can be blamed solely for that. Perhaps it's worth asking them directly?

Well... to be fair, it'd be more like "I wish that two of Cullen, Blackwall and Solas were not options." Cullen could still get in theoretically. But I disagree that they'd give us any useful information if we asked directly.

I disagree, because they could have used that budget to make the preexisting romance options better.

It's obvious that Bioware felt the current romances were fleshed out fully

Why don't we see what the romances are like before making that claim?

It is petty. I say this as someone romancing Blackwall. The Cullenites are in no way responsible for the romance distribution. They shouldn't be deprived of something they want because a separate group perceives themselves as being short-changed. Enjoy yourselves, Cullenites.

Ah, you were aiming for Vivienne then?

Why?

Why don't we see what the romances are like before making that claim?

I suppose it's possible that Bioware has jettisoned the precedent of all previous games and has made all of their romance options fantastically flowing and wholly sensical endeavors that would stand up to the greatest romances of stage, screen, and pen. But I doubt it.

Why?

Because like you said they could've worked on the other 6 romances more (which tbh they probably did considering playable races were added to the game)

So they probably felt they could add 2 more romance options

I'm aiming to make my Trevelyan's backstory as tragic as the game will allow me, LOL!

I'm thinking of basing my playthroughs on the following themes and I'm going to try and flesh out their characters from there.

- The King of Thieves (Cadash Rogue)
- The Black Sheep (Mage Trevelyan)
- The Huntsman (Dalish Archer)
- The Paladin (Warrior Trevelyan)
- The Outcast (Qunari Mage)

So, what are you upset about specifically? That there's more men than women? That Vivienne isn't romanceable? That you just don't particularly like any of the characters available to romance? That you just don't like Cullen/Solas/Blackwall? I'm not entirely sure what the issue is.

I'm upset primarily that they focused their resources on adding two extra characters who could only be romanced by straight women.

And assuming they haven't, what makes you think that cutting out two romances would make the others any better?

Would dumping other romances have made the others "better"?  Cassandra?  Iron Bull?  Josephine?

Not for those because they were necessary for the distribution to be even. As for why, time and budget constraints; all resources are limited.

*shrug*  I still have two choices.  Why should I care if others have more?  As long as the two I have are quality.

And if you think the romances are mediocre, why should it matter if you get two or four?

I'd like to think the devs know their business well enough to know what they can add and improve upon. Just because we don't see behind the scenes does not mean we have to suggest their work was not done well.

I will admit I am surprise Solas was straight, but Cullen was already mentioned as straight in Origins. And they also went with the stories that made sense to add in romance. So they went with Cullen and Solas.

Apparently there's story reasons for that, perhaps that's because they were added to the LI list later than the others? I dunno. Still, there's no point in getting upset about it, it's just a game.

I wonder  if there will be any differences between romances with mage and nonmage Inquisitors?
