Bioware never said anything about being fair
That certainly doesn't mean we can't be upset that it isn't.

Um, we now return you to your regularly scheduled Cullen discussion?
LOL, don't count on it. This will go on all night now.
I wonder if there will be any differences between romances with mage and nonmage Inquisitors?
. Still, there's no point in getting upset about it, it's just a game.
My one caveat with that sentiment is that for a lot of LGBT people, these games are the only way we get decent representation, so I can understand where Xil is coming from in that regard.
I'm upset primarily that they focused their resources on adding two extra characters who could only be romanced by straight women.
And how would they have better used their resources? The game looks fantastic, the plot looks exciting and the characters we've seen thus far look fascinating? I doubt that this will be a "Diana Allers" type romance that's added in at the last moment and has the plot relevancy and emotional depth of a tangerine?
It is petty. I say this as someone romancing Blackwall. The Cullenites are in no way responsible for the romance distribution. They shouldn't be deprived of something they want because a separate group perceives themselves as being short-changed. Enjoy yourselves, Cullenites.
Thank you. And know that, even as a not-a-Cullenite, you're always welcome in this thread. I, for one, enjoy discussing the game with you.
As for the "huge divergence" (lol) argument, I don't even feel like justifying myself to another "boo hoo straight males are being opressed" cry for attention, to be honest. Fans didn't make the Solas and Cullen romances happen, BioWare did. If the writers thought these romances were worth spending budget and assets on, it was their call, and resenting/blaming us, who are nothing more than fans just like you, because you didn't get what you wanted for the first time in your life inspires no sympathy or compassion from me.
Learn how it feels to be on the side that gets the short end of the stick for once in a lifetime, and perhaps the next time you see female players saying we always get the short end, you'll be able to sympathize with how hurtful that felt the one time you were in our shoes.
And yeah, back to Cullen. This will go nowhere.
LOL, don't count on it. This will go on all night now.
Sadly, that's probably true. :|

I would hope that there's differences for all races/classes, but it's hard to say. I imagine there will be perhaps a few extra/different lines of dialogue for Cullen when romancing a mage, given his past 'n' everything.

Ah, and thus do we see the fruit of that one saying about assumptions!
I'm lesbian.

LOL, Xili is female.

Let's stop playing who has had it worse "Olympics." This gets us nowhere, and only ends in yelling and screaming. And as Lola said, Xil is female.
I had a "puffed up hissing cat" of a post, but decided it wasn;t worth it.
Man, having a heart attack sure changes your view on things lol. I'm just glad I get to romance 9 DIFFERENT PEOPLE! And I can have that hunky templar from Dragon Age 2 to boot ![]()
edited: eight... i fat fingered ![]()
Still confused as to why one's complaining in the cullen thread about the lack of an even spread of romance options.
Surely that'd be better served in the general romance discussion thread period? There are one of those.

8, not 9, lol.
I edited... I fat fingered. My hands are shaky because of the meds
I mostly catch al the mistakes because of the red line underneath, but numbers aren't mispellings ![]()
I, alas, think I am too hung up on shipping him with my ruthless, rather tragic Amell to romance him.
I think I might give him one of my manipulative characters. Always smiling and helping the oppressed with one hand with a poisoned chalice in the other.
I do hope we can actually be manipulative in this game. I want to fake being nice for a change.

Due apologies for the poor assumption. Very tired of seeing this "huge divergence" argument happen only when female characters are getting something good for a change, very tired of being accused of unfairness when the scale tips to the other side for once.
Still don't see how it is Cullen's fault, either way. I'm female too, I'm queer as bag of rainbows too, I'm super upset I can't romance Cassandra or Vivienne too, and still don't see how that's in any way the fault of Cullen's romance. It's the writer's decision where they spend assents and word count on.
Saying that, I'll bow out of the thread for a bit now, because I can't stand this "fairness" argument anymore. Later~
My problem/preference is that I'll always default to those characters with history over those without. So the idea of Cullen actually falling in love with his onetime crush is just irresistible. Plus I get to write it.I think I might give him one of my manipulative characters. Always smiling and helping the oppressed with one hand with a poisoned chalice in the other.

I think the big difference between us is that you see it as male vs. female, whereas I see it as straight vs. gay.

Sorry, now I'm just picturing my own cat getting all fluffy and angry and meowing at the Internet. ![]()
EDIT for ToP: An oldie but a goodie from the peerless Aimo:

My problem/preference is that I'll always default to those characters with history over those without. So the idea of Cullen actually falling in love with his onetime crush is just irresistible. Plus I get to write it.
I will of course change my tune if I actually like his romance.
Ah. It's not a problem
I tend to put that character type (the manipulative one I mean) with romances I'm slightly vindictive towards. The Inquisitor never loved you~
Hopefully it's good. He'll probably be one of the latter ones I get around to doing.
I think the big difference between us is that you see it as male vs. female, whereas I see it as straight vs. gay.
I don't think it's versus anything. It just is what it is, the devs/writers say they have their reasons for certain characters being romanceable/not romance/in/out and eventually we'll find out.
