Rivalmanced Sebastian says that he would consider a marriage between you when he is Prince, and you are Viscount. This means you MUST side with the Templar at the end.

 

Friendmanced Sebastian proposes a chaste marriage, the marriage is confirmed in DLC. In MoTA (after the marriage proposal) if you take Bethany, there is also a suggestion that the romance is not celibate when she jokes about the Deep Roads. Please remember that Chaste is NOT the same as Celibate. I also have a personal headcannon that Hawke and Sebastian allow people to deliberately think Celibate as then their relationship won't be seen as a threat (heirs to Starkhaven) to Gorem Vael. At the end of the game Sebastian is acknowledged as having stayed with Hawke, though Varric isn't sure why.

My guess on Cullen getting worried:

He knows that the Quizzy isn't sleeping well, she forgets to eat when absorbed in work, and feels driven by her nightmares to continue pushing hard without taking breaks. I think he calls her on that and asks that she takes some time off...maybe with him. Two workaholics....LOL

I just...if it wasn't for Act 3, I think I would've liked the Anders romance better. But...I can't. So I thought of trying that out with rivalmance. From the sounds of it, he isn't completely chaste with that.

You didn't ask me, but I'll chime in anyway, since I adore Sebastian.   If you're going to actually do a playthrough, don't expect much from the Seb romance, rival or friend. It's incomplete and has very few beats you actually see in game. It doesn't count for the achievement, doesn't come comfort you after your mom, gives you no closure after the Gallows (bugged or not, hard to tell), doesn't lay a hand on you. It's just not written as  fully as the others. But if you're just picking it for your World import... you can imagine all sorts of things. 

 

Agree with john-in-france, that Hawke's pretty clear that she's at least planning on shagging Seb in one rivalmance interchange that involves her brother in one of the DLC. So, I think the promised political marriage would not be of the Chaste™ kind. 

 

Anyway, I'm honestly sort of surprised that I saw in the Keep presentation at PAX that there's a Sebastian romance choice, so here's hoping it actually affects *something* in the future. They've been quite mum on Seb's inclusion in the game, but they've also said that the cancelled expansion content is partially included. So I'm hopeful! 

 

It's so hard to romance Sebastian because you have to not flirt with anyone before you get him... and have you met some of our companions? I always play Hawke as a consummate charmer and flirt, it's hard for me to play through as either an Renegade or Paragon Hawke anymore, as well as be chaste as Sebastian wants them to be.

 

Frankly, he's way too high maintenance and far too into your sister!

Incidentally, this isn't true. The game guide was wrong. You can flirt. You just can't close the deal with anyone else. 

 

If Cullen were to lose a friend (one that turned into a behemoth) that he personally had to put down, would Cullen weep openly and unashamedly for the loss of his friend? Or would he choose to hold back his grief and mourn in private?

Like the others, I think it depends. IMO, it would depend on how close he was to this individual. I guess I would expect it to be an unusual incident to see him cry in public, so it would have to be someone pretty major in his life. So not just a friend, but maybe a BFF. If it were any less than that, I would probably wonder at it as a reader.

In regards to Seb's romance, it wasn't the lack of sex/romance that bothered me, it was more his lack of content. There wasn't anything added to his story-arc to make up for the lack of physical intimacy/sex scene. He was a DLC companion and he certainly felt like one, he wasn't even mentioned at the end of game by Varric which was sad. 

 

Obviously the game was rushed out the door, which explains why he felt tacked on. I'm incredibly glad that DAI has stepped away from doing DLC companions this time around.

Personally I can see Cullen actually getting pretty angry at first that his friend allowed himself to go down that path to begin with and then after venting all that anger getting pretty upset/sad enough to cry and let it all go. However, I do agree it will all depend on the company around him as to whether he'll cry publicly or privately. I can see the majority of his mourning done privately so that he can maintain appearance for those who serve under him, plus I kinda get the impression he's a pretty private person... might be wrong

Thank you. I hope I will survive. I'm packing my tablet now...  And then I will have no internet until October. Except mobile devices (i.e. twitter). I bet if Greg Ellis video comes out, it will be while I have no internet! But seriously, I think they will show all companions' VA, and then move to the advisors, because I'm sure their marketing people think nobody wants to know anything about the advisors   They followed that scheme with the introductions.

Well, they said they wouldn't do any DLC companions so if they did then it would likely have to be in the same way Tallis was approached... preferably not being Tallis again though, ta!

Sebastian is mentioned by Varric if you friendmanced him, that was a bug that they fixed. I have all patches and DLC.

 

I hated his rivalmance...sounds more like the proposition of a political marriage.

I'm going through another insomnia phase, so tired yet I just can't sleep Grrrrr, haven't gone to bed since Thursday. It got me thinking though, I can imagine Cullen not being a great sleeper, waking up regularly during the night and getting up and pacing around, trying to put the world to rights in his mind. I wonder if he fears sleep, if he gets terrible nightmares and such.

 

I like Sebastian although I've never romanced or flirted with him, he ends up like my FemHawkes brother after act2 and I like him for that, I always felt he was conflicted enough in his commitments without adding another complication into the mix but that's obviously just my opinion

And hopefully whatever issue they represent you can properly discuss it with them, instead of an important aspect being conveniently left out so that their precious bby can look 100% good at all times. Besides, I think Sebastian will still marry Hawke in rivalmance when he becomes prince again. He told her he will take her once he got Starkhaven back.

I like it in theory but I find Seb too annoying, but then I find Anders annoying now... (although Anders was doomed after my first PT and he lied to me about why I was looking for bat poop was it? *sigh*)

 

EDIT: I have tried Seb and even though I enjoy his look and voice, he's a little too devout for me (even when I try to rp)
