Hi there, Cullen thread. I was just looking at the OP, and noticed it says he's a romance option for female humans and dwarves... just thought I'd drop a note in case you weren't aware and wanted to change it. Don't want some poor soul getting their hopes up and then not being able to romance him with Cadash!

:)

@Jtav, personally I don't have that problem as in RL I'm in my 40s...I'll be RPGing a quizzy of approx. 30, so I don't really have an age difference issue.

Blackwall and Solas are in their 40s? Cullen from my calculations is mid to late 30s...

Solas is early 40s, Blackwall is med to late 40s. My likely Inquisitor is early 20s, though I'm a bit older. Just sick of the complaining.

This is OT but am I the only one not bothered by the age bracket of our Inquisition? Blackwall's old enough to be my father and Solas almost is, but it doesn't faze me.

Nope.  My Sith Warrior in SWTOR was dreadfully younger than her LI, and it actually made more sense considering the course their romance took.  What with how hesitant he was at the start, I mean.  Everyone assumes his fumbling rejoinders to her initial flirtations come from his sense of military protocol and there's me, "No!  It's because she's nearly twenty friggin' years younger than him, duh!"  Really, a generation divides them!  Of course there's gonna be some sense of awkward happening there!

I only think that an age difference is NOT insurmountable in a relationship, although it's really worth mentioning, too, because it's not easy, either.  It just provides a fascinating dynamic between two potential lovers, something they might need to consider.  Of course, my Warrior didn't seem to ever particularly care.  But she was Sith -- you don't tell a Sith she can't have something she wants, hehe.

I really like the range of ages available, it's refreshing and interesting. Even if most of the characters are older than me :P I plan on getting more bad-ass as I get older, not less.

My most used advisors will be Cullen and Leliana...I'm really not a politician, so I expect poor Scribbles won't be seeing much action.

I am going to try all three of them, but I might be doing Cullen more. It just depends on the situation.

Maker help me but my Inquisition will end up being the most pragmatic, punch-first-ask-questions-later militarized force ever, because I can already see myself going for Cullen's plan every time. Leliana is like "we should steal their secrets" and Josephine is like "we should bribe them with a scandal" and Cullen is like "we should burn their gates down and punch everyone in the face" and I will totally be going yeeeees okay whatever you say~ *heart eyes*

I will lose this Inquisition to a paralyzing inability to say no to dat Noodle. -_-

I think Josephine will use other methods as well. For example in the Gamescon case she suggested to reveal to the Nevarran king the real intentions of his advisor.

I'll probably go for a mix of all, based on the situation.

I personally like that we got a more mature group overall.

I view the military options as last resorts, as they're inherently messier. My preference, all other things being equal, is the pokitucal path, though I'll side with Gaspard because I liked him best.

Yep, I plan to use more of a mix too. I might be completely off, but I am expecting that for each situation, one of the approaches is going to be somewhat more appropriate than the others. I'm going to do my best to figure out what that is, one circumstance at a time.  When I'm truly in doubt, I'll most likely follow Cullen's advice.  ^_^

My inquisitor will vary a lot in age, and generally will be within ten years of their LI. Sadly, Blackwall is the only one who'd be my age irl :P

Yes, aren't there exchanges between him and Elthina about whether he's going to renew his vows and stay with the Chantry, or return to Starkhaven as its ruler?

But Wiki says 'Even though a romance can be made with Sebastian, he will never actually sleep with Hawke due to his vow of chastity.'

I didn't take that line in the wiki to mean "Sebastian will NEVER EVER sleep with Hawke."
The wiki (and the official guide for the game) also claim that only the friendship romance counts as a romance, for what that's worth. I take it with a hefty pinch of salt. ;)

I wanted to do a young Inquisitor because I liked the inherent tragedy of a young, somewhat silly girl growing up fast because of the mage war. She's not so romantic by the time the conference comes.

I had SO much fun flustering him when I played that game, though I was surprised that a lot of people didn't notice that he had to be in his mid-30s at least from his background story. There was a pretty strong trend toward giving the women much older LIs in that game (and a couple of the male LIs were almost TOO young); the sith inquisitor's pirate could easily have been in his 40s or even older. I think the bounty hunter and the smuggler were the only two with a male LI who was probably under 30.

I'm actually really happy with the average age of the companions this time, with everyone between 30-50 and Cole being the sole exception that passes for anything less than 25. I'm in my 30s now and crave for something different from the same old nubile naive young hero coming of age stories, so being able to play a more adult hero and be surrounded by a group of companions overall more well lived, more mature, people who actually know what they're doing for a change, it's very refreshing.

As for Blackwall and Solas... well, there is some truth to that thing about men in their 30s preferring women in their 20s, and women in their 30s preferring men in their 40s. ;) I would have felt super awkward shipping, say, someone like Cousland who is obviously very young to an already middle-aged Alistair, in example, but since all my PCs will be 30-something this time around (maybe this is where I self-insert after all?), I feel very comfortable having them dating hot daddy elf and hot daddy bara in their 40s.

Cullen I place somewhere around 34~38, so with my Trevelyan being 30~33 too, it's all good.

It's nice reading that so many people are going to be conciliatory and reasonable with their Quizzy.  I was kind of planning on killing and invading my way through everything for the DRAMA!   :D

I may have issues.

Question for you guys! To all those who follow this list: https://twitter.com/...enites-and-devs

Would you be interested in adding non-devs and non-Cullenites to the list? Would it annoy you/clog up the list? It's just there are lots of other DA fans out there, and half the time half the conversation between people gets left off the list.

PM me if you want to be added to the list or if you want someone else to be added.

My Trevelyan figures the half your age plus seven rule goes out the window when you've had to kill friends who turn into abominations.

That could be it. I remember photos of people in those suits you know, but I could very well be thinking of another game. Thank you!

I'm 25, and I headcanon my Inquisitors to be late 20s early 30s. It doesn't bother me - I love that we have older characters, especially those we can romance. It's a nice change. I personally headcanoned Zevran to be in his late 20s, and Leliana in her very early 30s. XD

Making grabby hands at all the little details on that face like wooooooow I'm gonna spend so much time on the character creator getting the Quizzie's face just right that it's a miracle if I ever get to play the game at all on launch day.

It bothered me in older games, but that's probably because I was playing them when I was a teenager and still relatively new to CRPGs.  I got squicked pretty quickly by romancing Carth in KOTOR when I realized he had a son older than I was IRL   Similar problem with Casavir in NWN2, though that was as much his personality as his age.

Nowadays, age is pretty immaterial to me.  I think Mass Effect is what did it, since Shep's 29 and just about every character is older than your average RPG crew.
