so I was thinking about Cullen's inclusion in DAI and how that probably means it's the last time we'll see him in the series.
Will be odd to play the next game without him.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to write some H/c after that bloody fic lol. Some real nice TLC coming up for JaceMine was coming from the angle that the price is only just beginning to be paid. I hadn't wanted to jump into the deep end with it. It'll get worse though. But I'm too busy writing a fluff snippet now.

My thoughts were that this was probably going to be his last game anyway. I mean, this is the big Mage-Templar War, this is kinda where his build-up from previous games has been leading. The only other thing he might have the slightest bit of insight into is Tevinter, but it would be entirely negative (magocracy, wrong religion, templars with no power, blood magic) and could be fulfilled in the same way by any number of other characters. Cullen's story fits in here, even if he wasn't going to be an LI/Companion.

OOOH, is that the DAI cover? It's great, I like it ![]()
A very powerful and dramatic image. I think it captures the epic nature of the story they have said they want to tell very clearly. No misinterpreting the 'you are a hero that will save the world from scary smoke monsters' possible here. I like that with only a little squinting you could believe the Inquisitor is either gender. That's a nice touch. Very cool. ![]()
There's been nothing further on the follower release? That's a shame I was feeling hopeful we'd get something today, still I guess with the cover art revealed that would have been both unlikely and greedy of me to expect.

A negative image of the box art, makes the dragon clearer
Quoting so we can see this again. It's an awesome negative image of the cover art.

Actually, I really like the fact they haven't shown Quizzy's face on the cover. I've always disliked the idea of a 'canon' face for the protagonist of a RPG. Might be a little picky but I want to be free to impose my own vision of the Inquisitor on the advertising imagery. I feel that a set face puts that me as a role-player (and in some part co-creator of the protagonist) at a distance that I doesn't need to be there. This may well change as the advertising gets into full swing later in the year but I appreciate this distinction for the box art. All in all I think it's been nicely done. Good job Bioware!

They probably haven't even done a default face that you can't possibly remake in the character creator like they did with Hawke and Shepard. There'd have to be eight otherwise.

I guess the green glow thing has pretty much confirmed these guys from the survey as the early inquisitor mock-ups.
Ah! So they weren't necessarily mages at all, it's just our Inquisitor showing off his/her veil closing skills!

I like this, too. Especially since the only reason I got into DA and ME is that I was able to play as a female. I understand most play as males (so far as their broadest audience/demographic goes) so it makes sense, from a marketing point of view, to target the largest group... So even just keeping it gender-neutral(ish) and faceless is a good gesture, to me, one I hope they continue.

I really hope that they haven't. I have a theory that the act of character creation and specifically visual modification of the protagonist is causal (perhaps that's too strong a word, maybe of great benefit would be a better choice) in promoting an emotional connection between the player and the character they play. It gives a player an immediate investment in both the protagonist and the story from the start. I really feel that positioning the CC after the introduction of DA2 was a misstep for the game that was a factor in it's reception. I shy away from 'universal truths' for there are always exceptions and variables in anything involving groups of people and in the case of DA2 I appreciate they were trying to immerse the player in the action and story from the get go but I think CC serves a very specific emotional purpose in RPGs and is best done at the outset.

I was never bothered by games that put a "specific" character face on their cover, if the game has a CC, it doesn't stop me from playing who I want to play or making my character the way I want it to look. By them putting a specific face doesn't mean your character should look exactly like that or that you have to play a certain way just because it was advertised that way.

Hmmm, yes. There will be sacrifice won't there? And that whole Fade Fixin' Hand does seem like it comes with a catch, don't it.
And the kinda things we might have to do. It's like Branka. When they're wondering what's going on w/her. What's happened to her? All that. She turns away and simply says, "I am your Paragon."
It might get like that for us. When we may have to make some difficult choices. Companions coming to us along the same lines. What's going on w/you? What's happened? "I am your Inquisitor."
edit: although, i'm not gonna feed my household to the darkspawn.

I agree that the use of a face in the imagery doesn't actively prevent anything. I just question that it adds anything to a role playing game. I like best the imagery that invites me as a player to actively imagine and project my own character into the picture, in a way the image provides the scene and tempts me to ask myself who this hero is. You see once I'm that involved in the process, then the step towards the cash register is pretty much a given.I was never bothered by games that put a "specific" character face on their cover, if the game has a CC, it doesn't stop me from playing who I want to play or making my character the way I want it to look. Although, I say this as a consumer extremely familiar with the concept of role-playing games which I imagine is only one part of the audience that Bioware needs to capture for Inquisition. The ability to project yourself into a 'cool' looking character may be of massive importance to other markets or consumers.
