A psychological term for this is Closure! It's when the human mind fills in blanks or gaps to try and understand what is before them. Like seeing animals in clouds or faces when you look at the back of cars. Or sometimes seeing things In the dark that aren't really there.I love how all of us are scrutinizing the cover art for snippets.
In honor of that, here's the word of the day.
Pareidolia (/pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-doh-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant, a form of apophenia. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse.
(And I've decided not to go back to the grind just yet. /perks of working for myself.)
Edited because formatting is dumb.

A follow up to my short snippet from a few hrs ago. This one is called Vigil and it continues from where the previous left off! I'll also include the previous one just so you don't have to hunt it down.
Sacrifice
And Vigil
And now, back to the research paper I have due tomorrow!

THE GAME COVER IS OUT!!!!!!
Dragon Age @dragonage 1m
They say only the Inquisitor has the power to stop it... #DAI pic.twitter.com/Dw9DNsL7yG
I am so late on this, but whatever, the graphic designer in me needs to squeal about how damn pretty this is-- and the dragon in the negative space! (It's just a shame the EA sticker there ruins the balance of the image.)

Can totally see a man or a woman in that armor.
... I would completely be pulling off poses like that if I was in that situation. ![]()

I guess the green glow thing has pretty much confirmed these guys from the survey as the early inquisitor mock-ups.
Nice catch!

I think they said they'll possibly be making this into a wallpaper. I certainly hope so!

We know that health potions and healing spells won't be spamable in DAI, or so the current word states. So I'm wondering - and hoping - that game mechanics regarding lyrium addiction might make it into the game this time as it's something that would affect not only Templars but mages as well, those who rely too heavily on lyrium potions.
How would you feel if lyrium addiction made it in game as not only something for Cullen to deal with, but Mage protagonists and possibly Mage followers as well?

I don't know how I'd feel about that.
On one hand, lore wise, becoming addicted after slamming so many potions back would make complete sense. On the other, it would kinda suck since lyrium potions have been the only way for a mage to recover mana in combat. ![]()

I know the topic of lyrium addiction has been discussed before with regard to Cullen. I was going through the wiki on lyrium matters and came across the interesting tidbit that DG mentioned lyrium addiction being an actual mechanic of some sort in early DAO development, which had to be tossed because of cost issues of implemening it well into the game. Oh, I wonder if they could add something like it in for Templar-speccing Warriors, too?
I think it would work okay, because mana regenerates over time still, yes? I'd like something like that, but it would have to be done very carefully.

I'm not even interested in the lyrium addiction storyline, let alone how it can be incorporated into gameplay. Odd for a Cullen fan, I know.
Neither am I, tbh. I've known enough addicts of various sorts irl, it's not really something I'm interested in dealing with in a game.

I was never bothered by games that put a "specific" character face on their cover, if the game has a CC, it doesn't stop me from playing who I want to play or making my character the way I want it to look. By them putting a specific face doesn't mean your character should look exactly like that or that you have to play a certain way just because it was advertised that way.
Me neither. When DA:O came out it was fun to create my canon noble rogue Arturo Cousland from scratch (and for the record, I headcanoned that Teryna Eleanor heard the name during a visit to Antiva with Teryn Bryce and liked it so much she gave the name to her second son). But I likewise had no problem playing the default Garrett Hawke in DAII (or John Shepard in Mass Effect, for that matter) as my canon playthrough for both games.
It's great that the game box shows only the back of the Inquisitor. BioWare really wants to stress the fact that the Inquisitor can look like anyone...which can only be a good thing. ![]()

Not so odd, no! I'm torn on the matter myself. On the one hand I'd like for the lore about lyrium addiction to actually be present in the game as more than a by blow mention. And if we're already limiting potion use in the game, why not limit lyrium potion and make addiction a reason/consequence?
On the flip side, I don't want the very serious subject of substance addiction and it's horrid effects to be belittled in a minor side story or a reason for never-ending angst...
... So, yeah, I'm not sure if I want this to happen myself, but I thought it was interesting that once upon a time a mechanic/implementation was considered.

Not really. The little we've seen about it I don't find it a very good plot point. I certainly don't think how they did red lyrium in DA2 did it any favors. I think it's only fair to be skeptical about about that plot in DAI considering how poorly it was handled in DA2. I just find it really weird you see red templars fighting alongside some massive mutated templar in the PAX demo. That really seems off.

I'd like them to explain Blue lyrium a bit more so we can better understand red lyrium though. I mean red lyrium is supposed to be this super mysterious substance that we are just learning about! But...that doesn't mean as much if we don't know that much about blue lyrium too lol!

You've made me do it! I've been following this thread since it started and the other Cullen thread since the 4000 celebration. Your story snippet was absolutely beautiful! It had me in tears. (Do you know what it's like to try and hide tears from your family?
) It really hit home for me so much because I plan on playing a male mage inquisitor who romances Cullen on my first playthrough. Massive kudos!
*huggles* Good luck on that research paper!!!
I've really enjoyed everyone's posts in here. 'Tis a wonderful place to be!
