I wonder who we learn the specs from if not our companions?
Seems odd to give them the specs and then not have them teach us (the way our companions in DAO did)

Agree, this would be my thought then as well. Altho... really, I'm sure they're just trying to avoid the gameplay pitfalls of lyrium use too easily leading addiction that they ran into in DA:O. So a little "oh, Seekers are like templars... but without the lyrium addiction stuff... you didn't see anything... hand wave..."I think they still use Lyrium, just know a way around the addiction

They have said multiple times now that we will get a quest to go find our teacher out in the world.

I prefer it actually. The whole "Let me teach you in seconds what took me years" thing in Origins never made sense.
I think they said specializations come from a result of quests. So for example with Reaver maybe you go through the ritual of drinking dragon blood.
Not necessarily, if the Seekers have some secrets that allow them to use templar abilities.
...right... a wizard did it. ![]()
( i mean, yeah, sure, they can come up with some complication that explains it... but you know it's just to brush lyrium addiction under the rug...)

Yeah, if it was a retcon they wouldn't put the Lyrium addiction in the description.
The Seekers just have some special trick that gives them Templar powers without the Lyrium.
My question is what makes people think that the Seekers don't use lyrium? Asunder clearly has Lord Lambert mention that the lack of lyrium made the Imperium templars weak, and then goes on to perform lyrium-based templar tricks.
I'm sure that Seekers use lyrium. Just because we don't see Cassandra do it constantly in the field, doesn't mean they don't. (Especially as that would be a very unfair mechanic for both PC and NPC templars, as no other spec has such a restriction). If you look in that video, the description of Templar even mentions that it was the original Seekers who found out how to perform these abilities and passed them on.
As for why she has no risk of Lyrium addiction.... space magic.

Well, someone's got some explaining to do to "the old ball and chain," huh. ![]()
It's alright, just focus on the pretty Cullen.... yes, pretty pretty Cullen.
And yes, Dragon Beat, a date with Cullen is totally romantic. Slaying demons, banishing abominations, killing Red Templar traitors, blood and entrails and tears everywhere... what's not romantic about that. ![]()

General distress signal: Someone save me from all the sonogram pictures Facebook friends are posting. Newsflash: Your baby looks like a creepy alien and I don't want to see it.
I love the sonogram pics of my babies, but I totes get what you mean. I think it's something where the baby has to be YOURS to be coo-worthy... Otherwise it's just an alien shot of your sweet lil' spawnlings parasite when you get right down to it
