Okay, I'm gonna be obvious and point out that calling people 'squealing hens' is not the way to get polite answers.

Maybe not, but is it an inaccurate metaphor? I've skimmed this thread and seen enough to gauge the enthusiasm as well beyond what it seems has been put into this character.

I wonder why people are so suprised that there is characters they don't like that other people love. I mean it's okay to ask why people like character if the person really wants to learn more of the character but most of time it's just "these people are stupid for liking character I dont like" -attitude.

There is lot of characters I don't like that people love. Although I can't fully understand why these people like character I don't, I still know that people have different tastes and don't go insulting them.

Well I'm saying this more as general since this is something I have observed a lot with Cullen.

I don't even dislike Cullen. He's an okay dude. Where's this depth people are delving into though? I'm hoping this isn't simply about his appearance.

Yes it is. All character threads are full of people showing enthusiasm in many different ways.

By the way, what's "graphics memory"? I'm pretty sure my graphics card had that same name, "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660." There's more to it than just the name?

I suppose just as one may see Cullen in some majestic and deep way invisible to me, I may view certain fans of his in ways not visible to you.

Yea I said in general since I don't know about your intentions.

It's not simply about his appearance. People like different things about Cullen but usually people point out his character development. He has changed quite lot from mage origin to broken circle to DA2's first and last act. There is still lot of unknown about him, he's box waiting to be unwrapped.

My personal reasons would also include that he's templar (I'm intrested of templars) and his relationship with Hawke, I really thought he felt like friend of my Hawke and someone who was sane and you could chat about craziness of Kirkwall with ^^

Graphic cards have their own RAM, which is task memory. Your memory card seems to have either 1.5 GB/3 GB (from quick internet search), I guess it has two different versions.

Yeah, video cards can have "dedicated memory". On Windows, if you go to the place where you can change your screen resolution, you can find an advanced settings place that tells you that number.

Can't a change in character between games also come across as writing inconsistency? I felt this way about Leliana, as she seems to be a totally different person than she was at the end of DAO and it makes me wonder if the character is being manipulated to serve the story more than changing organically.

A person can change a lot in 10 years, plus Leliana lost a dead friend and mentor (Possibly other friends as well), and was tortured in Redcliffe. I don't think her writing based in Redcliffe is Incosistent.

Instead of asking why he gets the devotion that he gets from his fans, ask yourself why it matters to you.

Why do you care what his fans think? We're not that important in the world of Dragon Age, are we? We're just a group of people who like a certain character. Every character has their fans, even minor characters. I still like Bevin from Origins, and Hugh from DA2. You don't have to understand why I like them, or why I like Cullen.

So why are you really here?

You mean Marjolaine or the Divine? I was thinking, perhaps the Divine is killed near the start of DAI and that pushed her over the edge or something.

It can but although Cullen has had different writers I find his writing consistent and good ^^

Cullen has changed as character when he has encountered different situations in his (virtual) life. Broken Circle was huge shock to him and his values so he started seeing his job as templar and also mages differently (from people to protect to threat).

In start of DA2 he had same views as in the Broken Circle, he was just more calm. However during the game he started to question Meredith and there was slight changes in his attitude towards mages and his role as templar. For example if you side with templars he says you shouldn't execute mages who could be innocent although in Broken Circle he said you should execute mages just to be sure.

I have found his character evolving rather than inconsistent this far ^^

In all honesty, I completely get folks wondering what all the hubaloo over Cullen is about. The best thing I had to say about him for the longest time was along the lines of "eh, he's a'ight." So-called Cullenites confused me.

Then I took a step back, explored all his hidden lines of dialogue (even prostituted my pro-mage self to Meredith!), and thought about just what made him tick. And I came to the conclusion that Cullen is a very cool character.

Sure, he's been through the wringer, but who hasn't in Thedas? What really fascinated me was the insight into his primary motivation for being a templar-insight only really given if Hawke sides with the templars in the end. Insight into a man completely different from the "aaargdfkj, mages not be peoples!" npc I had come to expect. Piecing together Cullen's character was a treasure hunt for me, that ended in discovering a surprisingly deep and well written man.

Plus, like, he's totally cute.

Haha

I'm sorry.  This reminds me of a spider we had back in the day.  Dropped a Sears catalogue on it and it still walked off.  Mmmm and I live in PA.

Ohio...bloody Ohio...bipolar weather...amish...and apparently giant ass spiders that wish to cause me to have heart palpitations/tremor at a young age.

I was going to reply to your post about DG since I love that game...but I am still searching for this damn spider, I and CANNOT leave until I find it and SMASH AND SMASH AND SMASH IT!

I did that to a cockroach once. I threw a book on it. The cockroach only left a dent in the book and walked off. (That was at a hotel room in Barcelona, btw).

As a player, I have mixed feelings toward this approach to character arc.  On one hand, it's totally awesome that characters don't just feed their entire story to you the protagonist.  It was one of the things I really liked about, say, Atton in KOTOR 2.  You can't get his story unless you really take time to know him.  It feels that much more rewarding when you get through to a character like that.

On the other hand, hiding so much of the character's personality and development behind a particular set of actions is frustrating because you effectively gut the character for certain playthroughs.  I certainly didn't get a lot of Cullen's characterization until a much later playthrough of DA2 because I had so much trouble siding with the templars.  It especially bothers me when you don't see character development without the romance--I felt like Jack and Thane suffered a good deal of that in ME2.

Minimum graphics memory is 512 MB and recommended is 2 GB. If yours is 1.5 GB, you're alright.

*snippity*

Oh Atton... *dreamy sigh*

Ahem. I agree that it can be frustrating having to play Where in the World/Plot is Carmen, uh, Cullen Whateverhislastnameis. On the other hand, it gives the game more playability and forces me to choose options I otherwise Avoid At All Cost (i.e. siding with them templars).

However, I do agree that the potential to "gut" the character, as you said, in certain playthroughs can be disheartening. It also probably explains why so many people wonder "where's this depth people are delving into?" (@Spectre Impersonator)

WOO Thank you :D I did scroll back and saw the minimum recommendations. Man, this is why I hesitated to do the PC thing. With xbox you don't have to worry about this stuff! You just buy the game and you're good to go :) No requirements... no errors... no rebooting... no screens locking up. Sigh. I hope I made the right decision.
