Oddly, I'm looking forward to seeing how a friendship arc goes with Cullen before I have an Inquisitor who romances him. Even if there's less content, a friendship could get at different parts of his character.

So, while I slept in for once, we were "visited" (glad I missed it, I'm not good at being polite to rude people). And CuriousArtemis found out her graphics card was OK (yeah!)
Oh, I'm in lust for your system (except for the Win 8.1)!
![]()
Mine's still a good machine (my daughter and her ex did a great job), but I've been obsessed with computers since the early 80s when a programmer friend showed me my first word processing program. I try to never touch the insides myself, except for dusting, because I'm well known to have a, ahem, poor relationship with machinery partly due to mild dyslexia that gives me fits trying to install things the right way.
I still have an old Windows 3.1 my family got in the early 90's and which I used to use for writing. The only thing that stopped me using it was when my mouse started to fail after 18 years, and I realised that it's impossible to buy a replacement, as we're talking about a mouse that's essentially like an ancient homonid (seriously, I can't write that word if I'm talking about our caveman ancestors? Parshaara!) when you compare it to modern mouses, which have long since evolved from pin-bar connection ports, to circular connectors, to usb, then wireless! ![]()
And troubles with dust are the main reason that I'm going back to desktops from laptops, since I'm tired of having my computers overheat from having so much dust clogging there interior. Even with a cooling pad on maximum, sometimes I have to put a desk fan on my computer when running the final few hours of Dragon Age, to prevent it from BSODing from overheating as it tries to handle all of the Darkspawn in the Battle of Denerim.

You'll most likely not get an email, keep an eye on the keep twitter they'll let you know when you can get in.
Oh did you try logging into the keep? You need to sign the NDA (if it hasn't been lifted). Then it's usually about 24-48 hours after you sign it you get in.

Salutations Cullenites! I'm a long time lurker/admirer of this thread, who has finally gathered the courage to interact with this wonderful community so...Hi!
I was hoping to get advice on a life changing decision from the experts. Should I romance Cullen as a human mage or as a warrior/rouge for my first playthrough? See, way back when he was announced as an LI I sort of head cannoned an immature, impetuous rich, spoiled, bad girl type rouge who makes it her personal mission in life to seduce Cullen just for the fun of it who(writers willing) gradually grow to care about him.
I still want to create her, but recently I've also been drawn to making a resentful, prematurely world-weary, staunchly anti-Templar mage who struggles with reconciling the feelings she has for him with her lifelong perception of Templars as the enemy.
I'm too attached to both of them to make the decision myself. I know that there's noting stopping me from making both but I intend to savor every minute of every playthrough so it could be awhile. Anyway what do you guys think? Thanks in advance! Really sorry for the long post #firstpostjitters.
Welcome to the thread!
Yeah it's difficult to try and figure which race and class to do a Cullenmance (and Cassandromance) with first.
I'm planning on going mage first for both, since a Human Mage was born into a very pious family and then spent their entire life under the yoke of the Templars, while an Elf Mage is the First of their clan and thus an Apostate the Templars usually hunt without mercy, as well as possibly having the usual Dalish resentment of the Chantry (and Humans) taking the Dales from them.
But I actually like your idea of a spoiled bad girl rogue, that actually sounds like it might be a lot of fun to play. I played something similar in my female Cousland playthrough of Origins, a "good" bad girl warrior who tried to get Alistair in the sack from the moment she set her eyes on him, as well as convincing him to join her in a romp with Isabela... ![]()

Yes, mice have evolved a bit since then. I had Win XP on this desktop initially; I waited until Win 7 had come out and was mostly debugged before I got a copy. Then because my normal computer advisers were tied up with major life upheavals, I let a computer tech friend of mine convince me that 32 bit would be more stable even though he knew the kind of software I run on it (GIS programs, for instance, which are huge resource hogs). I may never let him live it down.
But I tend to hold onto older software that does the job well for as long as I can.
The final battle with the archdemon is my computer nemesis. I usually exit the game completely at the door to the roof, then come back a few minutes later, make sure the settings are on low, then enter. My daughter's convinced it's the 32 bit that's the culprit since she's walked me through every hardware test we can think of. My new laptop can handle DAO, though I prefer to exit the game for a few minutes about once an hour because games like that really do heat up the video card. However, I find both the keyboard and the monitor too small for comfortable gaming on the laptop.

I think the decision here depends on how much stock you put in the mage/templar subplot. I don't care for it so the mage Inquisitor/Templar Cullen dramatic tension really doesn't appeal to me - other players here in the thread are all about that storyline and their whole romances hinge on that conflict. It's all different approaches, so it's more a matter of considering where you fall on that line.
The "immature, impetuous rich, spoiled, bad girl type rogue" more or less describes my Inquisitor I'm romancing Cullen with (there's a lot more to her than that, but it's a good start). I specifically chose a non-mage class because I wanted to give Cullen a more lightweight romance that didn't revolve around the same mage/templar drama that haunts every other aspect of his life; we know there's some manner of conflict in his character subplot anyway, so I'll be leaving all the tension for that. But with the more "bratty" personality my Quiz developed, I think it can be a really fun romance, Ser Frowny Serious Business and miss I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing. Mostly, I want to make him smile with my rogue. Get his head out of that mindset of constant vigilance and make him open up, allow himself to be happy for a change. I think a rogue with Cullen would be particularly good for him, because they fuel on fun and run life on easy mode, and he needs some of that in his life - but a warrior can also be interesting to roleplay, specially if she takes the Templar specialization and has that much in common with him.
But! If you prefer drama to easy riding, there's the mage angle to go for. I'd be mindful of how much you're willing to bend on that "staunchly anti-Templar" angle, though, because even though Cullen is willing to romance a mage, I'm not sure he's willing to romance one who is against everything he holds most dear. Since rivalmances are gone and positive/negative approval are back, I'm thinking radical anti-Templar Inquisitors will have to bend on their position as much as Cullen on his, or the romance might never take off. That's something to keep in mind.
I don't think any of us should make the decision for you. Think on what you want from the romance, which angle you'd rather explore, and it'll come to you. Worst case scenario, there's always that distant second playthrough to explore the angle you missed on the first. ![]()

Exactly this, my computer frequently slows down completely and if I start using things like "Storm of the Century", which can slow my computer through lag to a near-crawl. Or if I kill darkspawn so quickly, it takes a while before the computer realises it and takes a while before it remembers to send in the next wave.
I've had a similar nightmare with ME3 as after a while, the amount of available memory gets eaten away, so my computer starts attempting to siphon resources from other programs... which either switches of or decides to cut out my internet just long enough that I lose connection with the server... ![]()

My PC is able to play it on it's recommended settings, which is a bonus! It also means I can record the highlights to use for videos, which is handy! I just hope DAI won't keep crashing, for some reason both the previous DA games do it a lot even though there's no obvious reason for it.
On DA2, have you tried changing from DX11 to DX9 on the settings? The game was really badly optimized for DX11, this is what causes texture flickering and crashes on load.
On DAO there's still the memory leak issue that was never fixed. Quitting the game to desktop every two or three hours of playing should flush the memory and avoid instability on menus/at combat start and crashes on loading screens.

Ah that DX11 thing kept my computer from running it at first, until I managed to lower the settings down. Even with DX9, I still get skipping that randomly cuts off the beginning of some of the cutscenes and prevents me from doing that Fade Barrel quest, but I've learned to deal with that minor annoyance.
I wasn't aware that DAO had a memory leak problem, but it would definitely explain why my game starts to play up after a long session and why restarting fixes it. I figured it was just my computer being particularly useless again.

Ugh I am playing da2 now and I was getting a lot of invisible limbs and blocky graphical glitches, plus it looked like Kirkwall had a bad case of graffiti artists. Turning it down to DX9 did the trick and didn't take too much of a visual hit which is nice.

I wish we could go back there just to see how bad the place is. I heard banter from Varric and Cassandra (during one of those recent DAI gameplay vids) where they mention the current state of Kirkwall and it sounds like it's in a pretty bad way. I'd really like to see what it's like now in the Frostbite engine... maybe if we're lucky will get a DLC featuring it or something?
