I intend to be pragmatic. Save the keep. I tend to find those protagonists more sympathetic than unvarnished good guys. At least for BW PCs.
Why more sympathetic?

You know...
**** this. I don't get sad or distraught at these things, I get angry at Bioware for trying to manipulate me.
No, this Crestwood/Keep thing is bullshit. There's no logical reason for you to somehow know when each individual soldier died; that's something you'd only learn after the fact. The timer exists solely for the purpose of making you feel bad, just like how All that Remains made Hawke act like a moron to make the player feel bad.
If I knew of a mod to remove All that Remains, I would take it. And if I can just console command my way through this Crestwood crap, I'll do that. I do not accept having my emotions manipulated for no damn reason.
I thought the health bar was showing the damage the Keep itself was taking, rather than the people dying.
Indeed, so far They didn't say one soldier will die every time the bar descend.
Of course, some soldier will die, and Possibly a lot of them if you save the village. But the quest is about two locations getting attacked, so it's obvious people will die. You can't save everyone even if you save both.

If that is possible, mind. I guess if you send the soldiers one way and you go the other, but... it's going to be tricky.
According to Cameron Lee it's possible, but it's not easy and you need to be well prepared.

Why can't you split the party, keeping three with you to save the village and four others to the keep?

Sera's not a typical unvarnished good guy, but she's more about saving the individuals rather than the greater good.

That's probably gonna require at least one or two reloads.
And bring both cold and lightning magic!

I meant the protag specifically. I used to have a homicidal rage against Shep until I started playing a grayer character. And my canon Warden did nasty stuff too. It's how I keep Sue-dom in check.Sera's not a typical unvarnished good guy, but she's more about saving the individuals rather than the greater good.

Also, make sure you have both Winter and Storm magic.

Did you guys see BW is selling some of the tarot art in the BW store?? http://www.biowarest...rt/giclees.html
I wonder how much campaigning it would require to get a poster of Cullen's card...? (unless his card really is the art from the War Table choice where's he's grizzled, old, non-Culleny Cullen).

No, I have been watching a lot of the Red Templar gameplay from the Emerald Graves. The foot soldiers have a big weakness to Electricity (maybe because of the metal armor being a better conductor?).
Also, when battling a behemoth, it had full health and full armor guard up. I saw Solas use one Winter's Grasp and it knocked the whole bar of Guard off and took a pretty big chunk out of the thing's health too.

We don't know how far in the game Crestwood is
Though I do wish Bioware would do that more

Because you don't truly know the situation before you arrive in Crestwood, and you don't have the time to Bring other companions. Why can't you split the party, keeping three with you to save the village and four others to the keep?

So, did we get given a reason as to why we can't just retake the Keep later?
I think it'll be destroyed, not conquered.
