So, did we get given a reason as to why we can't just retake the Keep later?
They'll probably destroy it using red lyrium?

The OCD completionist in me is screaming. "Oh the agony!"

Here's a thought: can red lyrium be 'planted'? It wasn't on the surface until DAI as far as we know, and now it's cropping up all over the place. Maybe the red templars are 'seeding' some areas so they can harvest more?

Same here. I want to gather all the things!
I can only hope that Cullen will be there to "console" me. ![]()

Yes to the planting. Some of the Emerald Graves gameplay supports that theory.

It's going to be a pain to get rid of it, isn't it?

Very, unless the Inquisition gains Enchanters like Sandal who can neutralize it.

There's nothing to suggest at this point that we even can get rid of it.

Yeah, but that was just a shard versus the whole infestation we have going on right now.

I still wonder what Red Lyrium would do to mages
Well, the raw blue stuff causes internal hemorrhaging. I don't think the red stuff will be any kinder to mages, lorewise. If you could get it to somehow power your magic though, perhaps via runes in weapons, I'd bet it would pack one hell of a punch. Though, you would probably still run the heavy risk of corruption.

Isn't that exactly what Sandal's Primeval Lyrium Rune is?
Also, I gave Varric the shard because I'm curious about it and want to study it myself. And if Varric's a companion in this game, it can't be that bad, right?
Now I wanna see "Red" Mages
God, that scares me more than red Templars. I wonder if the Venatori would let some of their mages utilize the stuff...

It is, but the shard Varric held was very small. And just because he's a companion doesn't make him immune to its long term effects. Because it's so small, it might have taken this long to have any adverse affect on him. I too would like to study the substance, but I wasn't gonna risk Varric over it.
I think it might have some negative effects on him.Isn't that exactly what Sandal's Primeval Lyrium Rune is?

I'm not that attached to Varric (don't dislike him, just not attached). So the shard is my "one for me" choice where I abandon RP for curiosity's sake.

You'll have to let us know what happens, if anything (in spoilers, of course).

I Personally like Varric a lot, but the choice is based on My canon's Hawke's relationship with Varric, and his personality. Part of the reason he was protective about his friends is the loss of Carver and Leandra and (though not dead) Bethany.
Don't know how my PC will feel about him in DAI.
I'm tempted to make my Warden and Hawke total jerks and my Inquisitor a nice gal to see if Leliana and Varric comment on it... Possibly Cullen too.
