If the female Lavellan default name is "Valya," isn't that the same name as the main character in Last Flight (who is also an elf)?

it's not a default name. I think they just named her that after the girl from Last Flight. They also had a qunari named Torquemada, lol

I don't know about the outrage about LI hooking up if you don't romance them.

Fenris and Isabela hooking up made sense because it's clear from both of their dialogue that they're just having a casual fling and we do get a few cutscenes of Isabela visiting Fenris' place and flirting with him, showing that she's obviously attracted to him.

Similarly, my only issue with Merrill/Carver is that that pairing only works if he's a Grey Warden, because otherwise he's kind of being a hypocritical tool for hating on magic when he's got a blatant crush on a practicising Blood Mage?

Likewise, Bethany/Sebastian I actually think is kind of cute, except for his super-pioty and him being a little too eager to murder the Mages in the pro-Templar ending, making me wonder whether he's the right sort of guy for her?

Tali and Garrus in ME3 also made some sense since there was some subtle hints dropped in a few of their conversations, as well as the fact that Garrus can be seen as a Turian version of a Paragade Shepard, so it makes complete sense that she'd be attracted to those similar qualities.

And I know most people hate it, but the rumour that Leliana and Alistair had a thing in the Darkspawn Chronicles doesn't bother me, because they're two lonely, single people fighting a war, so them getting closer and hooking up doesn't seem too far fetched? The only reason I can see them not doing so in Origins even if you don't romance either of them, is because Leliana is enamoured with and has unrequieted feelings for the Warden.

So, yeah, I don't see why Josie/Cullen or Cullen/Cass or even Cullen/Leliana would be such a terrible pairing?

Oops, a lag.
So, Cullen. Do you think he would appreciate romantic poetry? He doesn't seem like the type to me. But he keeps his templar gauntlets, so I guess he's somewhat sentimental deep inside.

The only thing that worries me about Aidan's post is that Josie seems to be getting a lot of hate on tumblr :(.

I chalk it up to her just being new. I think once we finally get a real gander at everyone's personalities, it will all level out. Meaning they'll find something else to hate. LOL

Hmm. I think if Bull will be paired with Someone it's either Dorian or Cass. I'd prefer the former, not only becuase of a s/s relationship, but Because of the relationship between a tevinter and a qunari.

I'd like it for the same exact reason. It would be a really interesting pairing and I'd love to see how such a relationship woul develop. I don't know if I'd like a CullenxJosie relationship though, because it seems to me it would be a bit bland. Also, I always pictured him with Cass if not with the Inquisitor, so... But I guess it's just speculation until the release of the game, we have no way of knowing how the characters will get along until we play it.

That's ridiculous.  It shouldn't matter all that much.  As said before, why should people be mad if they're not going to romance said character anyway?  At least, not during that playthrough.  It makes the characters feel more alive if they hook up with someone other than the MC.  Maybe some pairings will be irksome, but it shows them "living" in the sense.

I hope so. Thankfully I don't follow tumblr that much.

The talks about who does who remind me about a tweet that Cass and Bull have an interesting dynamics, although I don't think it was romantic/sexual thing.

I didn't feel any jealousy over Fenris/Isabela in DA2 even though one of my Hawkes romanced Fenris, and my Hawke who romanced Sebastian lost Bethany in the Deep Roads, so by the time I knew about Sebastian/Bethany it didn't bother me either.

However, I do feel oddly possessive about Cullen! :D

I don't have as much emotional investment in the other two romance options for my Inquisitors, so the idea of them hooking up with someone else doesn't faze me, but when I think about Cullen hooking up with Cassandra or Josephine...

For the record, this only happens if you take his Rivalry path. If you take Sebastian's Friendship path and side with the Templars, he's not at all "eager to murder mages," he just wants to restore order to the city.

The only thing that worries me about Aidan's post is that Josie seems to be getting a lot of hate on tumblr :(.

:\ It's always like this, isn't it. Alistair gets no hate for maybe dating Leliana, but Leliana is a cow for stealing precious Aliboo. Fenris gets no hate for hooking up with Isabela, but Isabela is a wh*re for stealing precious Fenris. Garrus gets no hate for dating Tali, but Tali is a homewrecker. Now Josie is the evil boyfriend thief. Always always the female character is the cow who stole your man. Maker forbid the male part gets any accountability for being interested in someone other than our character. Damnit, fandom. -_-

Bah, I like characters hooking up if I'm not with them. It gives them agency, makes the world feel alive. I hope Cullen ends up with Cass or Josie in the playthroughs where I'm not romancing him. Good on him for moving on with his life in the universes where his Inquisitor waifu doesn't exist.

I think Xil is saying that she wants m/m or f/f pairing in the game instead of m/f. In DA2 there was within companions 3 m/f pairing but not any m/m or f/f.

Well.. Let's be honest, in DA2 the m/m pairing wasn't possible because they loathed each other , and the f/f pairing well Isabela saw Merril more of a sister.

I can only imagine the outrage (and the awkwardness) if Cullen romanced a Leliana who was potentially romanced by female warden Amell.

Ha! Good point! I imagine there would've been some angry sexy times going on there with Fenris /Anders. Yikes!

I hope Cullen and Cass in particular don't hook up with anyone if unromanced. It would just be cruel if, out of the three fan-favorite returning characters many people had hoped to romance, there's Varric, who you will almost definitely have the opportunity to help hook up with someone else, and Cassandra and Cullen, whose female and male fans respectively would have to watch hook up with someone else. If it's got to happen for Cullen, though, I'm happier with Josie or Leliana than Cassandra.

In any event, if I were a dev right now looking to get some trolling on, that's probably exactly what I'd post, so I'm not too worried.

Aye, I forgot to put that it was on the Rivalry path. I do know that he's in favour of defending them if you go Friendship and side with the Mages. Of course, I always take Rivalry as it seems more in line with his character's decision to Rage Quit at the end if you spare Anders.

It's a good thing Cullen was added as a romance with the delay then. If he got with Josie (when she was single) and was unavailable to the PC, can you imagine the rage?

Hmm, considering there's a comment included about the inquisitor in that, I suspect it's more likely that Josephine is writing the poems for the inquisitor to give/read to Cullen. Or to tease the inquisitor about Cullen.

If it's something that happens only after the inquisitor is locked into a romance with someone else, I'm fine with it (h**l, my ex's second ex is a friend, and so is his current wife - like Eleanor of Aquitaine in Lion in Winter, I don't care who he's shagging). However, if Josephine has eyes for Cullen when the inquisitor is starting a relationship, that could lead to bad feelings in the inquisition (no love triangles for me, thanks).

If it really means what some people see in his post, it's also possible that Josephine may develop a relationship with Sera if the inquisitor doesn't, but default to Cullen if the inquisitor develops one with Sera instead. Until the game comes out, there's no reason to jump to conclusions. However much they try to keep representation in mind, the writers are only human and they'll never be able to make everyone happy.

Well.. Let's be honest, in DA2 the m/m pairing wasn't possible because they loathed each other , and the f/f pairing well Isabela saw Merril more of a sister.

This. They'd have had to rewrite the personalities and interactions between the companions to make a relationship seem believable. Isabela adored Merrill, but it was protective, especially of her perceived naivety and Merrill would have been very hurt by a light-hearted relationship with Isabela (and Isabela hated hurting people she liked).

You know, we've had the snide commentary before from companions regarding our chosen LI. I wonder if they'd ever implement something like "jealous rival". For instance, Josie getting catty when she realizes we've hooked up with Cullen but she's been trying to snag him for herself.

I don't know how I feel about this... It's very Manic Pixie Dream Girl.
PTSD-suffering tortured soul meets brilliant, witty accomplished socialite who encourages him to broaden his worldview and save the day.

Don't get me wrong, it really could write itself, and since Cullen wasn't originally an LI perhaps that was the direction they had intended BUT in a more selfish note why is it always the characters I like most that find someone else in the group to play with?

The only issue I have with it, is that it always feels like my PC is stealing them away from their intended.

I'll make a world state where Leliana and Surana were a thing, just to see what Cullen has to say :)
My Amell loves Cullen. Cullen loves my Amell. If canon contradicts it, I will hack this game and change it. =]
