And yet still participated in Meredith's genocide, something I've neither forgotten nor forgiven.
Well, clearly he's not a templar anymore; the Order went rogue.
And saved mages as he went along, too. He continued to voice calm rationale, even in the midst of a world blown to pieces. By a mage, no less.

I would agree with you but then I wouldn't be able to explain my irrational hate for Oghren xD

I always saw Cullen driven by his sense of justice and for the Greater Good of people. He defied Meredith only because she became of threat for everyone and even for herself.
True, but it still needed to note that he didn't do anything until Meredith went absolutely nuts at the last second. He didn't stop her when she declared an Annulment, even though anyone with half a brain would know it was Anders', an apostate's, fault that Elthina died, and that the Circle wasn't responsible.

I disagree. I don't see why only some characters 'deserve' to be hated. Even if I don't agree with Xil, I don't have problems in her hating/not liking Cullen.

Which mages did he save during the Annulment, though? He didn't say a word until Meredith threatened Hawke at the end.

Too soon to tell, but from that one conversation, he seems more aggressive than he was in DA2. I still found it surprising that Leliana was the one to advocate asking the mages for help. I think I will be following her advice in this.
I feel the same. I'll probably side with the mages once again.
It would be nice if we meet Rhys. Provided he doesn't get killed during the breach.

I only have a problem with Xil hopping into the thread at least once a week to say something about how much she hates Cullen and/or wants to kill him. But hey, that's what the "ignore" feature is for ![]()

The ones Hawke meet that can spare (they'll likely become tranquils though). Don't know about others, but We might learn more in DAI, I guess.

If he wanted to really save anyone and not just save them for later Tranquility, he'd have mutinied.
By Nuremberg standards, I would say that he should be hanged. I don't personally like the death penalty myself, but I also want to see him brought to account.
Well, technically speaking, Hawke probably killed more mages than Cullen.
In that one quest? No. Hawke kills one mage at the Docks, who seems to have killed a bunch of other mages herself and who summons a great deal of demons to attack Hawke on sight, then some other mages who were enthralled by a desire demon.

She's perfectly allowed to discuss her views on the character as this is a discussion thread. It's a person's right to speak of either their like or dislike towards a character.

The ones Hawke saves those mages on the Templar side, Cullen also tries to spare them but got over ruled by Meredith

Yeah, it looked almost like a cutscene though, and that caught my attention.

I have absolutely no problem with people not liking Cullen, or having opinions that do not match mine, and using this thread to discuss them. The only thing I have a problem with is people who intentionally cause drama for the sake of drama.

My apologies to both you and Xil, I wasn't clear. I *personally* run out of emotional steam, as it were, when it comes to hating characters--with the exception of characters that are written to inspire dislike and nothing more. I think I just lack the energy to sustain any kind of hate against most characters ![]()

Actually, I don't really maintain energy of hatred against fictional characters either, unless they're both horrible and invincible.

I also didn't see his comment as pro-templar or anti-mage. I think safety is his main concern. But it came out as pro-templar, just because he is a former templar. I suspect nothing will be that simple with him. There was a good moment in Last Flight:

What I really appreciate about DA is the ideological breathing space. With the exception of people like Howe, it feels like the game is content to let me like or dislike whoever. There's less shouting in my ear that these people are "Bad bad bad and how dare you like them!"
Well, anyone voiced by Tim Curry is sort of destined for the hammy villain box
I couldn't even hate him, I just laughed at him whenever he talked.
It made it really awkward with Nate in DA:A. He was all "My name is Nathaniel Howe. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" And my Warden just kind of stared at him, confused, until she realized he meant that crazy old guy in Denerim.
