I am in the moderate category, and hope for peace between mages and templars, but if it can't happen then I'll fall on the side of the templars.  Mainly because Broken Circle and unwittingly helping Anders blow up a chantry left a really bad taste in my mouth.  My first DA2 playthrough was very moderate and I supported mages through the whole game, and was nice to Anders and everything, and he repays me by murdering innocent people in church with my help.  The betrayal was just... 

 

And I realize that my Inquisitor will not have any knowledge of that, but weighing and comparing options, only 2 of my Inquisitors would be remotely pro mage, and 2 pro templar, and the rest would be moderate.

But seriously, I want peace between them. I don't want to simply butcher one side of the conflict. If they all went to the peace gathering, it means they want the same thing, so it might be possible I hope it will be.

 

I'm kinda pessimistic about peace.  There is a *lot* of bad blood between mages and templars.  Just look at their fandom supporters, and they're not even the ones directly involved in the conflict    A real peace requires trust, and we don't know what the motivations are for the peace gathering.  They clearly haven't fought each other to the point of exhaustion yet if fighting breaks out in the Hinterlands in-game.

 

As a player, I can see both sides  But it's a lot harder to look at it that way when you're a mage who was imprisoned and viciously abused, or if you had to kill your fellow templars on account of a mind-controlling blood mage.  I'm hoping to at least get them to put killing each other on hold so we can deal with the Breach that's killing EVERYONE, but more than that is IMO optimistic.

I just want a 3rd option. Pleeeeease, I will be so grumpy if I don't have *some* other option.

I'm with you. I hated that DA2 made you take sides rather than something logical like organizing the rest of the city around Aveline's guards and penning in the Templars and mages while they fought it out.

I doubt we'll have another option, though we might get the option of defining ourselves as neither pro-Mage or pro-templar.

 

Meh BW always forces me to something I despise. Grey-Warden, Pro-mage/pro-templar in DA2 (in the end there was no other choice). Now again DA2? And they forced me to be in the Alliance in ME, meh!

 

Still love their games but could they stop forcing me to these roles XD

Well.. they give you a story and you go from there. There's only so many choices you can make xD

The thing is, the more they take away choice, the less of a defined narrative they're able to tell. If you have 100% choice you end up with something like the Sims. Sway more towards narrative and remove choice and you end up with the Mass Effect series.

 

50/50 is probably Skyrim; you have a lot of freedom to join different factions and aren't even really pushed to pursue the main storyline, but the overall narrative suffers and the world around you is bland (including your own character).

IKR?! I really rolled my eyes at how many Grey Wardens popped into existence during Awakening; it was kind of silly. I kind of want to put that storyline behind us, along with mages v. templars. (talking about "Let it go...")

I tried so hard to get into Skyrim but instead of being fascinated by my ability to explore, it just all felt very vast and lonely and made me feel a bit insignificant :/

I will give it another go at some point, but I'm far more interested in people than places

That'd still involve mass slaughter of civilian mages, which is almost as horrible as siding with the templars outright. On the whole, I prefer as few middle ground options as possible on this issue (assuming we have to be allowed to choose at all, and I don't even like that).

Oh! Awhile back I posted how I had this hangup with writing even like hand holding and/or kissing.

 

I wrote a kiss scene, and then just finished off a smut scene.  I feel accomplished!  It was *really* hot in the room while I was writing, although I gather that was probably because my face looked very much like a tomato, but I wrote it!  I wrote CullenxTrev smut.  It was gloriously liberating!

 

*note - I really only wrote half a smut scene.  The... errr climax, as it were, is still not on paper, except in outline.  But liberating nevertheless.
