I'm seriously going to laugh if we find out Cullen pilfered it off a dead guy after a skirmish and it has no personal meaning to him.

He needs to lose some layers, poor guy is sweating out in that tin can!

Oh yeah...

Inq;  Cullen, are you OK?  You look a bit pale.

Cullen: I'm fine, thank you.

Inq:  No, you're sweating.  It *is* warm in here.  Here, let me help you off with that cloak.

Cullen:  Er, thank you...

Inq:  ...and those gloves, and that breastplate, and those greaves...

Cullen:  [squeak!]

@Walrider welcome!

You know, guys, now I wonder again - why a lion? I wonder if it's explained in the art book. I heard the creative process is described very well there. And I think Matt Rhodes mentioned that on twitter too? I really need that art book in my life.

There were a couple of pieces of armour in DA2 with lion imagery/symbolism, weren't there?  Maybe there's lore there that they haven't yet explained to us?  I was thinking it was him channeling Hercules, and those mighty labours he had to undertake.  :)

I'm guessing the fur is from the Ferelden Red Lion found in the Frostbacks. (mentioned in wiki and the board RPG).

Lion armour could be:

Referencing Andraste, she is shown as wearing lion armour in one of the tryptychs.

Symbol of Orlais.

Looted from some dead body.

Won in a tournament.

Something to do with the Divines bodyguards aka Knights Divine (Templars)

Since the Ferelden Templar symbol is part and parcel of the design, I'd say that it is made for Cullen specifically and we'll find out why in game.

Also a lion is shown on the tarot card for Strength.

Edited to add. The bulge under the red cloak is his shield, that's why it looks weird.

Have they shown Cullen's tarot card yet? I don't recall seeing it but Strength would be a good match if it is.

Also, dirty mind time: Why does there frequently seem to be poorly placed things around Cullen's groin area? First there was that quill and now this one has a dagger strategically poking out. Not that I'm complaining....  ;)

The card on the War Table for Cullen is the King of Swords.

Because of his tower, you could also say that the Tower tarot card has associations as well.

His armour suggests the Strength card.

You know, despite finding Cullen intriguing, and thus wanting to know more about him, since Origins, I've never once posted in the Cullen thread(s).

Which is a shame.

So this is me popping into the thread and saying, my, what lovely atmosphere you guys have here! (And I'm only partially talking about the lovely art/screenshots)

Welcome and stay a while! The crazy is fine.

I was thinking about the actual deck that's coming with the uber edition of the game, rather than the war table card. I'm looking forward to that deck very much.

I think it's the same, tho. Presumably the actual deck are all the tarot cards we've been seeing of the companions, the races, etc.

So I sent off my fan offering to Greg Ellis... and I included my Grease Summer Nights parody.  What if we actually heard GE sing a tiny bit of it??  :squeeeeee: (hey, a girl can dream! )

You may be right. All I know id that if it's an actual full tarot deck then there are 22 major arcana. Perhaps there may be another version floating around because the war table cards look different to me. Then again, I'm not fully awake and could be full of it this morning.

Interesting combination of cards for Cullen. The King of Swords is associated with mental clarity, intellectual power, authority and truth (right side up), as well as manipulation, abusive and tyranny (upside down). If it's in reference to a person, it can be interpreted as that person taking their responsibilities seriously, as well as a stern countenance. Can also be associated with a desire for spiritual understanding and compassion combined with intellect. It can also refer to other people's perceptions of a person, with other people seeing them as a figure of authority, intellect, courage, judgement, command, and leadership. It actually works quite well for him as a military commander, because this card sort of evokes an... uh. A need to be objective and detached when it comes to making decisions. Using intellect and facts tempered with intuition and experience to achieve goals, but also keeping compassion in mind.

The Tower is actually worse than the Death card in terms of meaning, when you see it, it usually refers to a sudden disaster, change, or upheaval (and that's with the right side up!) and when it's upside down it can refer to a fear or avoidance of change (holding yourself above and away from things, so to speak). And Strength is pretty straight forward: strength, courage, control, patience, compassion, and upside down it can refer to weakness or self-doubt. I do tarot readings for fun.

Still, I'd rather him be rough as arseholes on the card, and pretty in-game than visa versa! We struck it lucky!
