I guess because I'm not sure what the npc romance will be like - *to me* it feels more tacked on, not necessary or integral to the story the way companions generally are. But again, it's new territory and I hope it will feel more natural in game.
I disliked the non-companion romances in Mass Effect for those reasons. In DA:O and DA2, I liked dragging my character's love interest around everywhere, imagining scenes happening between the two of them while traveling, and I loved the party banter that the other companions had with the love interest when exploring an area. Losing those would be kind of a big deal for me.
Hopefully, non-companion romances are done a lot differently in DA:I.
Of course, now I feel like an ungrateful jerk for feeling down in the dumps about this, when I should be excited by the awesome new trailer, website, and images instead. ![]()

In the video, Cullen doesn't have a weapon located on him, but the others do. Thus, we assume he's an NPC.

Nothing official, but the image has everyone with weapons, except Scribbles, Leliana, and Cullen. Also, the Warden was (possibly) seen with the Inquisitor in-party again. So safe bet on Cullen being an NPC. It's how i'm choosing to interpret it.

Please don't assume things as fact. Neither does the GW in that scene.

Yes, he does. Look again.
The GW was also seen in the party in the Gameplay trailer.

Not in the scene you all are referring to. Therefore, that doesn't speak to me about Cullen.
