She's not double-posting on my end... the forum is pretty insane lately.

Never mind. It's all fixed.

Hi, my name is Porter and I'm a forum addict that lusts unhealthily over men in a video game.

Well, there are worse addictions, and there are unhealthier things to lust over. I have a candied-apple and cocaine problem.

Whoa, I apologize. I was not aiming to make fun of or make light of serious addictions.

Think of the fluffy pauldrons in your face when he hugs you. It's like hugging a teddy bear.

(a teddy bear in full breastplate, but y'know)

I'm a huuuuge sucker for Fenris, like, he's one of my favorite characters of the whole franchise, but - a lot of what he says needs to be taken with a mountain of salt, and the outsider perspective that his view of Tevinter is and will always be irreparably tainted by his awful life experiences. He has every right to see Tevinter through a blood-stained lens, I'd never dream of taking that away from him. He hates Tevinter hard, and I hate it twice as much for all it's done to him. But... it doesn't mean his clouded judgement corresponds to the whole reality of it.

Think of it like... when people from certain states or countries in the world say they're "proud to be from ______" even though that place is largely renowned to be full of awful racist, homophobic, misogynist people doing horrible things. That person is not necessarily saying they're proud to be from a place full of awful people - maybe they're proud of everything else in that place. The culture they were raised in, the unique customs they have, the food, the music, the art, the people who are not awful, the people there who are actually pretty great. There's a lot to love in the culture that raised you, even when there is also a lot of problematic stuff going on around you. I was born and raised in a state that's misogynist to the point of driving me to tears sometimes, in example, but I still love this place for everything else about it; and if you asked me, I'd say I'm pretty proud to be from here - because there are awful things here that shame and hurt me, but then there are also so many other greats things to be proud of, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

So I get Dorian, in that sense. You love the place you call home, even if home is a dinky shack full of nasty roaches scaring your friends away. You desperately want to clean it up and make it a better place for everyone to live in, and maybe you know you can't do it on your own because the infestation runs too far and too deep and you'd probably have to nuke the entire block from orbit and rebuild it from the ashes before you root out the last one of the nasties, but you do what you can. And at the end of the day, your home is your home, and you'll be damned if anyone gets to hate it more than you do.

....the metaphor got a little away from me at the end, but you get it. :P

and this is pretty much how i feel abt the U.S. right now.....

in other news, i wonder how we are going to help dorian w/tevinter, if at all? or how does he think the inquisition will be able to help him?

i also wonder if his story arc w/tevinter might make a good segway into a da4 that actually explores this place and its culture?

As much as I love Dorian, I don't think there isn't anything we can do to directly affect Tevinter. It's an empire of the Old World that has existed for millennia and has weathered the ravages of time. It's roots are deeply entrenched and I can't say that I really see it drastically changing itself anytime soon.

I don't want Tevinter to change at all...well perhaps get rid of slavary...since ya know that's awful. However, I love how it is like the last wild and untamed land that the Chantry has not tainted.

Short of the Qunari, I don't think the White Chantry fears much else. And even then, the Chantry needs Tevinter cause Tevinter is the last line of defense protecting the rest of Thedas from full scale Qunari invasion. If it goes under, we're all screwed.

Aaw, that sounds cute. My male Trevelyan will definitely be needing those brotherly hugs, I plan to RP him as being very sad and angry to have lost his little sister (and only connection to a family that hates him) in the explosion. He'll need all the friendship he can take. :<

My Adaar would probably be so confused by Cullen's friendly bear hugs, though, lol. "I don't understand why this puny human is touching me or what he thinks he's doing with his arms, but it feels warm and fluffy so Imma just gonna let him have at it."

I can't make up my mind for my Inquisitor for my Cullen play through. I know I want her to be a mage. But, I can't make up my mind if I want to make red haired elf name Rosily, or make an ice mage named Elsa an turn run through in to a singalong. Any ideas?

Tevinter FOR THE WIN!

In other news, I wonder what Boom is doing. Since Boom has not been on much today, I wonder if those Cullen fics have entered into a new level of smut.

For those that were bothered by the Cullen fan impersonation in the Monday stream:

user #1

@Mike_Laidlaw @Cameron__Lee would yall like to stop mocking fangirls in yr livestreams bc it's disrespectful af 1/2

Do you have an example? I sure don’t want to mock anyone.

user #2
@Mike_Laidlaw The "impersonation" of a Cullen fan during the Skyhold Monday stream was... weird.

Ah. Haven't seen it. Apologies on behalf of DA if it was mean-spirited.

user #2

@Mike_Laidlaw Thanks for listening. I don't think it was mean-spirited, just... ill-considered?

Ha! Sadly, those two share a postal code, so you have to be very careful.

Red heads are sexier! Plus, Elsa doesn't want no man!

Oh, I was joking, I didn't mean to make a cocaine joke so carelessly. It's my go-to "addiction" joke.

Sigh. I get that the guy on the stream was a bit of a jerk, but I hope he doesn't get in big trouble with Mike due to that.
