*sighs* Again, not sure how long some of the newbies who are suddenly posting here have actually been a part of the Cullen fandom, but... it has long been an issue we've had to deal with. We've been ridiculed; we've been called crazy; we've been told we only like the character because we're all female and hormonal.

It is not always intentionally offensive or sexist, but it's buying into the behavior without realizing it.

Obviously the sweet guy in the video was not trying to be mean. But it's totally important, imo, that someone alerted the BioWare devs that persistently buying into this belief about female fans, even jokingly, of male characters is damaging to their fanbase.

I think the guy was tired and didn't intend to be offensive and I certainly hope he didn't get in trouble over it. But part of the problem is that it is so ingrained that people actually don't realize they're doing it, which means it's time to politely start pointing it out so they become aware.

Bioware is remarkable in their treatment of a lot of issues, which is one of the reasons I love the DA games. But if no one says anything, silence tells people that it must be OK to say.

Make both!

It's tough to say with Alistair. They could cater to the fans and make a larger role,

or it could simply be an appearance like in Awakening or DA2.

DAI won't be importing any of your saves, so you can decide via the Dragon Age Keep what you want your world state to be.  I would go with the mage origin for one where you want to see if that gives you more insight into Cullen and you could do a later play through with your Warden on the throne as part of the world state for that subsequent PT.

I definitely will do both, I'm just so particular about making my first playthrough perfect haha  :)

I saw this on twitter, and we talked about it for a little, but I didn't realize it was you! Bravo it's literally perfect.

Lol yep we did indeed talk about it on Twitter! MD and I kind of started this whole Beefcake discussion last night and then that idea came to me later on. So thanks you! *bows*

For those that were bothered by the Cullen fan impersonation in the Monday stream:

user #1

@Mike_Laidlaw @Cameron__Lee would yall like to stop mocking fangirls in yr livestreams bc it's disrespectful af 1/2

Do you have an example? I sure don’t want to mock anyone.

user #2
@Mike_Laidlaw The "impersonation" of a Cullen fan during the Skyhold Monday stream was... weird.

Ah. Haven't seen it. Apologies on behalf of DA if it was mean-spirited.

user #2

@Mike_Laidlaw Thanks for listening. I don't think it was mean-spirited, just... ill-considered?

Ha! Sadly, those two share a postal code, so you have to be very careful.

Good job, Chrys, for being diplomatic yet assertive!

Looking at the layout of Skyhold from that video, I'm thinking that Cullen will need to come to my Inquisitor's room and not the other way around.  It avoids climbing the ladder (my Teveylan isn't one for jumping or swinging off the battlements to get there via the alternate route) and, unless there is an interior passageway they didn't show, that is a lot of open ground to get from one room to the other.  Cullen can be a gentleman and make the hike.  :P

Of course, that means your LI (Cullen or anyone else) walking through the throne room and ostentatiously through your door (unless there's another entrance they didn't show us). Which means Varric, Viv, and every ambassador in the throne room will have juicy gossip going before he or she reaches your room and anything can actually happen. ;)

I'm a man but I feel I have a lot in common with Cullen and I'll go in romancing her with a dalish mage at least once in order to have better understanding on who Cullen is. (Is he exactly like Isabella as an injured bird that needs confort or not ?)

Exactly. I wasn't super bothered and didn't intend to bring it up, but when I saw someone else had, I thought it was best to politely answer Mike's question just so they became aware of those concerns. His replies were very thoughtful.

Awww thank you so. I really hate tweeting at people I don't know and bothering devs, so it was hard to decide to do it.

I have a question that's semi off topic but...

How much of a role do you think Alistair will play in DAI? I'm having a really hard time deciding if I should import my save with my warden on the throne or go with the mage origin to get a juicer backstory from Cullen... Any suggestions?

Regardless of the role Alistair himself plays in DAI, it won't be tied to the Warden so much as to his own role in the world, so you could go either way. In the best of scenarios, your Warden will get a meaningless little namedrop, it's not like if she's Queen she will show up with him or anything. So you could go for whichever scenario you prefer, Queen to get a unique mention or codex entry, or mage to (maybe, possibly) get a mention from Cullen. Follow your heart. ;)

I'm going with my dead Warden, for instance, in hopes of finding out if Alistair is still as heartbroken about her as he was in DA2. If he makes another mention of his dead girlfriend like the one he did before I'll be over the moon, if not... well, I'll have to steel myself and say it's been twelve years, he had to get it over at some point. -_-

I'm still trying to understand where do you even jump from?? The way Mike put it, I thought his Inquisitor was parkouring all over the Skyhold walls to jump down into the battlements, but I don't even see where she could be jumping from to reach Cullen's tower faster than just climbing the stairs.

But yeah, looking at those ridiculous stairs you need to climb just to get to his bed, he better be coming to my Inquisitor's room for sexy times. Funny bed acrobatics only a foot away from a solid drop like that look more dangerous than exciting...

I apologize if my lack of offense offends you and leads you to assume that I am not as deep of a Cullen fan as many of you.

But I assure you that every mention of his character in the slightest sends the butterflies of excitement loose in the pit of my stomach.
I am ready to get my hands on Inquisition and share every detail of our fangirling together as one whole,

provided that I have caught up to the majority, so there won't be any spoilers in store, lol.

Wait I must have missed this at some point... has it been two years since the events of DA2? & yes even if it's just a little mention I get all warm and fuzzy inside knowing he's still thinking about me

That's good to know, and I'm glad you jumped in to clarify a little. I don't twitter/tweet/whatever 'n heck it's called (yes, my age does show on that one thing, that and my undying hatred of all phones :P ).

True, but since we're going to get teased about our LI (or at least, it will be commented on) anyway, I figure it's not going to go unnoticed either way, so he could do the walking.  Could always distract everyone - "Look, free beer in the tavern!" and then make a dash for it.

The undercroft entrance is directly across, though, so maybe if there are any other entrances there from outside then that might be an option.

Oooh, or maybe climbing up the Inquisitor's balcony?  Have to leave all that armor behind before making that climb!

See, I'm not crazy to want even just a tiny mention of Zevran or Fenris!!!!

Also, what's the term for a fan-non-gender-identifying-person :P I will go with fangirl in a pinch but it does make me wince :P

According to arcane mystical calculations based on World of Thedas, the timeline of the novels, and a bit of blood magic, it has been at least three years since the destruction of the Chantry in Kirkwall/the Meredith incident and the end point of Varric's interrogation in DA2. It's presumed that Cassandra immediately hauled Varric's ass away to see the Divine from there, and that's where we get them at the start of Inquisition.

My age shows when people talk about Tumblr xD It's apparently where fandom is these days, so I look outdated a lot.

I picture it in my head as having to use that chain shot thing that pulls an enemy toward you (I think it's a warrior skill?), i.e, not something you can actually do but which is fun to head canon.  If we actually can parkour to some extent, then my inquisitors that aren't afraid of heights will take full advantage of it (and probably go splat on the ground half the time).  :P

Edited to add current favorite Cullen/Dorian photo for top:

You know, as excited as I get about each new game that comes out, there's always the thought in the back of my mind that eventually the characters from the previous games will die and we won't get the options for cameos from them anymore. It worries me especially with Alistair who's life line is limited to begin with.

I'm pretty cis, but faaaar too old to be a "girl" anymore, so I just go with "fanderp" :P Because derping is pretty much all I do in these games.
