Personally I find it hard to form a personal connection with my character if he is dead silent, but everyone is different. Some people feel the voice isn't "them" and it's too hard to immerse themselves in the character. *shrugs*
Yeah, it's a shame some people disregard Male Shep entirely because of ME1, when in fairness, even FemShep was a little wooden and cold at times, which I think was less to do with Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale and just the way Shepard was written in the first game. Especially Paragon Shepard, who was kind of like Captain America in how positive and upbeat they were at every turn.
In ME2 and ME3 however, the character was written with much more humour and emotion, which gave Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale way much more to do with the characters and lead to them giving some sterling performances. I'll admit, I actually prefer Mark Meer in ME3 to Jennifer Hale, because as good as she was in that game, I think he nailed the emotional stuff far better.
Oh I know; yeah, you will not have a persistent personality because people (once again) b!tched and moaned about auto-dialogue and so they removed persistent personalities
I was pretty upset when I heard that, but hopefully simply by consistently choosing one or two personalities we will build our character that way.
Yeah, this is what I hope, that that the tone wheel gets to allow us to choose Paragon, Neutral or Renegade, as well as Polite, Funny, Rude. It'd be kind of fun if we can play as a Jerkass Paragon or a ridiculously polite Renegade?
"If it's not too much bother, could you fellows kindly decimate those bandits to teach them a lesson? And let me be clear, I want only one tenth of them killed, not the entire lot of them wiped out. Too many people misuse the word decimate, they too shall have to be dealt with... later!"
