Artemis - Well shove Cullen in it somewhere and spoiler it as a rant - then post it here.   :D

I declare today an unofficial getting stuff off your chest day!    It's good for the soul.

Obviously people who prefer pants have the right to prefer pants, but those people already got their wish for two games in a row now, while those of us who prefer dresses have got squat, so we have the right to be upset and rant. Sorry if we're not very sensitive to people who already have what they want while we have nothing.

Make it an option, whatever. It still sucks that we're stuck with suits whether we like it or not. Fighting animation is not an excuse, come on - we literally have people fighting in dresses all the time with mages and templars. It's already in the game. All it would need is a reskin of a mage robe and voilá, you're fighting in a dress.

Sigh okay I'm done ranting about this here.

In fairness, the complicated-ness of dress animation is a fair excuse. Not only do the animators have to create a realistic looking 'flow' (otherwise the effect would live somewhere in the uncanny valley) they'd have to create one for all four races. It's the same reason we don't have long free-flowing hair options. Plus it would use a whole bunch of processing power, which could be way better spent on something else. Npcs can conceivably get away with it because the animators can completely control what they do and how they move, but have comparatively little over the PC.
Does it suck for those who wanted dresses? Sure. Is it due to some great laziness on the developers part? Hell no!
Also, have you guys played Dishonored? Pantsuits can look bloody hot! Perhaps a bit less of the 'pantsuits are unfashionable'? I dunno, I personally like wearing them more, IRL

Nb: not talking about Origins style of dresses/robes but they looked horrible and plasticy, so I think they would stand out anyway.

I'm with you. I'd be offended if they forced my female inquisitors to wear a dress because some of mine just wouldn't. A rather feminine pantsuit, sure.

But because I'd be offended by that, I understand the opposite too: how aggravating it is to those who would adore being able to have their inquisitor wear a beautiful dress to a venue that obviously screams for it to be forced to wear what they feel are mannish clothes (even a couple of mine who would never wear a dress otherwise might enjoy wearing a dress for a formal ball, as long as it was restrained). On the other hand, there may be some male characters who'd enjoy that dress option as well :D .

Though, since there has been an implication that there might be fighting at the ball, perhaps we show up knowing there's going to be trouble and prepared for it? Outfitted in full armor/gear?

The male inquisitor is shown in a fancy suit,so I kind of doubt that we'll show up in armor.

Speaking about outfits,to be perfectly honest,I've never been a fan of the outfits and armor in DA,even though I love the fact that armor is the same for both males  and females (No chanmail bikinis YAY!).But still, even though I think it's great that they have their own art-style and totally respect that...But I wouldn't say they're to my liking. This is why I prefer the route the Elder scrolls have taken in this department(even though I side-eye the boobplate in some armors). However,I always seem to like the outfits out companions/advisors/npcs get to wear...With a special shout out to Cullen,Josie,Vivi and Varric pretty much everyone in our party this time has a really amazing outfit.

I hope Inquisition will make me appreciate more the options available to the pc,even though this doesn't seem to be the case so far.

Again, that it is difficult and not worth spending the resources on is a design decision that the devs are completely at liberty to make.  It's literally their call and they have made it.  I as a consumer just don't care.  If I'm going to a ball, I want a ball dress!  I also would like longer hairstyles, so to me these elements are lacking and I'm going to whinge my head off about it fruitlessly because these small details add to my enjoyment and I want to make it known that they do even if when the devs put everything into the resource bucket these items are never going to be a priority.

2014_09_25_05_08_11_EGX_Twitch.jpg(taken from the other thread) i think this is the female version.

..not going to lie, i don't like it. : P it reminds me hawke's house outfit with shoulder pads. (plus, there is no way my planned femquisitor would willingly wear that...030) *wistfully sighing for 500 years*

also, to stay somewhat relevant..i hope we can drag cullen to the ball with us! that would be fantastic. : o

I do think that it would have been better to either replace the ball with a different kind of party or with an entirely different kind of event if they weren't willing to do the animations to give people the option of a fancy dress for the venue. I can't imagine they didn't realize that would be the expectation for that venue (even if the male animators and devs didn't realize, there have to have been women who could tell them).

...I'd almost prefer for all of my female Inquisitors to be forced to wear a flouncy dress (by Vivienne, perhaps) as long as I could express dissatisfaction over it.

I hope Cullen will be at the ball as well.

I really like Dragon's Dogma style of armor options. TONS and TONS and TONS of different armors for each class, and most of it is really, really cool, plus there are a few female-only options, like a corset, a metal bikini (lol), and some panties (lolol) ... the OPTION is there if you want to dress your gal sexy. Even better, the OPTION is there if you want to dress you hunky guy sexy, too.

Well what really irritates me is that we are going to a ball in which all (at least that I've noticed in the screenshots) the NPC female characters are going to be wearing fancy Orlesian frocks.  I wanted to wear a fancy frock too but I can't, I have to be a pants wearing unfashionable character.  Which isn't to say that pants aren't great evening wear in many situations but to my mind a formal ball isn't one of them, particularly when everyone other woman is wearing a dress.

So now I don't want to go to the ball at all.  Which is a shame because I was looking forward to it but I suppose that was mostly because I thought it would be fun to see my kickass adventurer get all prettied up and party during the mayhem.

Still cross!

I'm with you. I want to be able to put my quizzy in a ball gown, she is going to be spending the majority of the game in pants she needs to feel girly at least once and a ball would/SHOULD be the perfect place. My Lavellan definitely wants to wear one and be all prettified and girly, she never had the chance frolicking in the woods all her life as she has.

I am angry right there with you!

Agreed. I want the option. I also want to drag cullen or our love interest to the ball.

I am curious if bioware might give us a DLC with alternative clothes?

Seconded! From all the (male) companions, it seems that the one that can really dance might be either him or Dorian. Hard to picture dancing with Blackwall...

Just saw this at the german section of the BSN. From the 14:20 mark onward there's a short view on the localisation of DA:I with the german voices of Varric and the female Inquisitior: Tilo Schmitz   (I just love his voice), Anke Reitzenstein and Manja Doering. Obviously there are some dialouge spoilers (there even seems to be a bit with Inqui seduceing someone,I think, based on a couple of lines Manja records). Don't know if someone around here is interested in stuff like that, but I thought maybe someone might be, at least it's probably more visible here... Or maybe it just distracts everyone from the no dress disapointment.^^

Otherwise don't mind me, I'm just trying awkwardly to contribute something, like I always do.

Umm I don't speak German, actually does this include some Cullen moments?

Aaah I really love the two women's voices anyway!

Anyway, I got just some impression that if ever we bring Sera and Cole to the Ball, it'll really be a mayhem... somehow.

They should absolutely gives us DLC with additional clothing, armor, and hair options. I would throw money at them for that. And perhaps an additional LI  =]

I also agree they should have changed the event, and not give us the chance to ware a dress the outfits this time around are stupid looking to me its a bad as the striper dress they had given female shepard in ME3 type thing.

A new Cullen fan to the fourms and hello to the girls and guys in the thread. ^-^

I wouldn't mind wearing pants to the ball if I could wear something like Josie does every day. I mean, that's very pretty and feminine, while not being a dress. I do, however, mind being given the same outfit as Bro!quisitor but with boobs...

Well, there's the

line, which seems to be romance/flirt (or something similar based on her tone and the lines themselfs) related. And since there's the relaxing and "some parts getting harder" (rough translation) part I assume it's spoken to a male, so...maybe?

I'm not sure I can translate it properly, though. Sorry. =(
