This recent tidbit of the new trailer inspired me to write a quick little fanfic. Enjoy!
Sitting alone at the ornate marble table, Eliza gazed longingly at the dancers twirling in their silken Orlesian garments. The tinkling of laughter and music enveloped her with the nostalgia of an earlier more blissful time, and a whirlwind of memories swept her away from the ballroom...
... A farmhouse nestled into the Ferelden countryside glowed invitingly, its lanterns illuminating the night. The sweet aroma of her mother's bread drifted from the house and slipped into the old barn where Eliza's father was teaching her to dance. Towering above her on a haystack, he clapped his hands ceremoniously. The violin began to sing beneath her sister's fingertips, harmonizing with the crickets and frogs outside. He jumped down and kneeled before Eliza, his crinkly eyes peering up at her lovingly. "May I have this dance, El?" he asked. Grinning from ear to ear Eliza put her tiny fragile hands into his large calloused ones. He lifted her up, planted her feet on top of his, and they were off. As they spun, a myriad of coppers, auburns, and ruddy reds melded together around her. She closed her eyes, giggling with pure delight...
Eliza sighed and rested her head in her hands. Although so long ago, the memory remained vivid in her mind as if it had happened only yesterday. Oh what she would give to have her father with her right now... Just as she was preparing to retire to her quarters, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. Eliza flinched and spun around to see a pair of lush green eyes fixed on her, "I...didn't mean to startle you..." Cullen kneeled before her and held out his hand. "May I have this dance, El...?" A deep rose creeped across her cheeks as Eliza nodded and delicately placed her fingertips into his steady hand. He pulled her out into the center of the room beneath the glistening chandelier, and the world melted away.
