I think their issue is that they don't like Cullen and don't want to interact with him at the war table...which is even more naff, because 'New Templar Insert' would be exactly the same in recommendations. I expect Cullen to mainly come into his own during personal interaction, which they can avoid.
If he can be professional about the working relationship and it is obvious from the chess game that he can, most Cullen haters are just being 'haters'.
Exactly.
I've actually been surprised by how many people actively dislike or even hate companions and advisors in the games. I have found all of them interesting characters in their own way, and I haven't disliked any of them. There are some who I prefer to leave at home (Oghren is amusing, but if I want fart and belch jokes, I can borrow friends' pre-teen boys), and some I prefer to have in my party because I enjoy listening to them (Morrigan and Shale are two of my favorites). If Zevran could have been re-specced to be immediately as useful as a rogue as Leliana, he'd have been the third in my party most of the time. If I had played DA2, I suspect my party would almost always have included Isabela, with some combination of Varric, Aveline, and Merrill depending on my own class. I like Anders and Fenris, but I feel they aren't team spirited (is that a polite way to put it?). Sebastian is nice to look at and has a lovely voice, but I don't want the chantry knowing exactly what I'm doing. ![]()
There are times, though, when I wish I could dress down a companion without paying an affection penalty.

I find that even if I dislike a particular character or their motivations I still have an interest in finding out what makes them tick, what shaped them or their beliefs, that sort of thing. There are a couple of characters in DA that I'm not so keen on but I still recruit them, still interact with them, for me it adds an interesting dynamic to my characters, party set-up and game as a whole. I also appreciate the time and effort on BWs behalf to create these characters, the least I feel I should do is explore them and not hate on them "just because".
At the end of the day it is a game and some people (thankfully a minority) just go way over the top with their stances and opinions. People are absolutely entitled to them but at times the tone gets downright personal, nasty and poisonous, imo that can't be healthy on any level, certainly not over a game or its characters *shrug*.

Wait, we haven't even got the game yet! How can we just hate several characters based on rumours, a few line here and there mentionned at previous games? For all heaven's sake they can be really great or outrageously disappointing.
Have that been any connection to a blood sucking being that has the same name with our dear Commander? I mean people tend to see the Twilight series as either the best literature ever written or hate it. Just the name connection alone, plus the fact that our Commander looks gorgeously hot, makes people just connect them both?

I dislike quite many characters in DA universe but I tend to not talk about them. I dislike Oghren and find Sten boring but in my most playthrough they just sit on camp and I chose play with different companions. I don't tend to talk about my hate that much since there is not point, I rather talk about things I like ^^;

Pretty much. There are characters in the series I could do without, but between spending my time whining about things I don't like and spending my time talking about things that make me happy, I'll take the second any day.

Nah just ignore the haters.. They just hate Cullen because he's beautiful! xD
I believe R2 had a picture somewhere...

Also, just a couple of reminders. Allan has asked us not to discuss other threads in here because it creates an adversarial atmosphere, so although most of what I'm hearing is applause, let's still be careful please.
Also, haters gonna hate, full stop. But I'd rather us not start stereotyping them just as they stereotype us. Folks gonna dislike Cullen. That's their prerogative. When they start ripping on the fans is another issue... ![]()

Defending Cullen is a hard job, so hard that people start shouting "Mass murderer", when that title can be laid at so many feet in this franchise...

I've heard somewhere that actually they had put the same amount of lines and number of words for each character, so if a character got more lines on some subject he/she will get less elsewhere. Does this also apply to Advisors? I mean, compared to core companions that will stay with the inquisitor most times, will Cullen and Josephine gets more lines where it concerns the matters "not related to works + romances"? Finger crossed...

Bwahaha, number one son just asked what he's saying here, so I read it to him. Son shakes his head. "No he's not."
Blasphemer!! Where did this child come from??
Take him back and demand a refund?...oh wait, perhaps not!..
You can always count on the darling little kiddlywinks lol. My neice was up for cuddles one day, playing with my hair, "Aunty..you've got white paint in the side of your hair"....me "uhm yeah...it's not paint sweetie, it's just my hair" How to be brought down to size by a six year old ![]()

People in general seem to be more forgiving to other characters than Cullen. Zevran, Leliana, Sten, Fenris, Anders and Isabela from companions have killed quite lof ot people during their life as well, not even counting how much people Warden and Hawke killed ^^; It's not like anyone has clean conscience.

Which is a tad hypocritical from most players, as even if you're playing as a Pro-Mage Hawke, you probably kill more mages in DA2 than most Templars will have done in their entire careers.

In the vine posted a couple of pages back where you actually see the male inquisitor dancing at the ball, the description said snippets from a new upcoming trailer? Are we anticipating a new trailer soon, or was that an old vine?
I have long since given up on trying to reason with the people who claim to hate Cullen. It takes so much energy to actively hate anything in fandom. That's why I love this thread. Everyone is so amazingly positive. I know I've said it before, but it's such a wonderful breath of fresh air. Never change, Cullenites. ![]()

they certainly do this with respect to the romance word budget, which is the same for all LIs. I would honestly be surprised though if the advisors had the exact same amount of other content as the companions. They certainly don't have the banter.I've heard somewhere that actually they had put the same amount of lines and number of words for each character, so if a character got more lines on some subject he/she will get less elsewhere. The vine was from last night. Aaryn Flynn was giving a sneak peak of a new trailer at a conference. Because he was showing it off, I think we're gonna get another trailer this week.

Remember, revenge is a dish best served cold when it comes to children (I recently got revenge on the child who told me I was really old on my 28th birthday by pointing out just how old she was on hers, over 20 years later)

I think Gaider's quote about wordcount was that Cullen's and Solas' romances were given the same wordcount as the others once they were decided as something they would be doing. So the total count for companions/advisors would be proportional - say, Solas and Cassandra get a bigger total wordcount in the game than Cullen and Josephine because they're companions and thus have party banter, but their romances all have the same count as each other.
