Ah, but that's neither here nor there anymore. What I'm wondering is what Cullen did in the time after DA2 that got Cassandra's attn so much that she wanted to recruit him?

What happened in Kirkwall after DA2? Was there indeed an exalted march? Is that why Varric is ticked off w/Cass in that one dialogue? Where Cass apologizes abt Kirkwall, but says it is recovering?

Or was Leli and Cass showing up there a part of the Exalted March. And while they were there they decided to swing by and try and find Hawke?

I mean, there were Seeker troops marching thru the streets at the end of DA2. When Cass and Leli are talking. There's a formation there. It's not just Leli and Cass.

Indeed. They've been friends for years. Hawke may have info on the Resolutionists. Without even realizing it. Asking who else Anders spoke with often? Where did they meet?

There would be alot of info the authorities would want to investigate just because Hawke and Anders were so closely associated for so long.

That would be a fair bet, as even though Hawke never got involved in the Mage underground, they heard Anders go on about it for long enough?

Of course, it doesn't help that any investigator who went over Hawke's mansion would find a lot of copies of Anders manifesto, which might be used as "proof" that Hawke supported the rebellion? I could imagine that being part of the reason why Cassandra initially believed Hawke to have been planning to spread dissent and sedition against the Chantry, since she's undoubtably gone over Hawke's estate for clues?

I figure that as the highest ranking member of the Kirkwall Templars, he got her attention in her investigations as one of the individuals most responsible for bringing the city back to order, as well as his controversial decision to let Hawke go in the pro-Mage ending?

Lol! abt the anders manifesto thing all over the place. I was thinking that exact same thing just now. By the Maker, Hawke has these bits of Anders' Manifesto all over the friggin' place.

And yes, letting mage Hawke go at the end is quite controversial. To me. I couldn't even believe it when I was playing that part. I was like, uh, really? We can go? Huh. I thought, "Okay everybody, walk real cool and calm. Then when we turn the corner..Run!"

Before they come outta shock at the whole thing and decide to lock us all up.

I think this could also be the case. There are so many places where we didn't get to explore the shades of grey they build into the ending.

Isn't that what Bioware has excelled at in the DA games though? The variety of grey situations in DAO and DA2 were staggering. It still puzzles me when people talk about it all being black and white.

I'm looking forward to hear what happened to Cullen during the 3 year gap before DAI.

Someone who has the balls to stand up to their Commander is always going to attract attention from whoever is in charge.  I expect he stayed in Kirkwall as long as he could and tried to repair some of the damage that Meredith's misrule of the Templars inflicted on the city.  He wouldn't want the Templars to be remembered as a bunch of bloodthirsty killers, which is what they were reduced to under Meredith.  I think he would want to try to rebuild their honour.

But... that's one of my favorite parts!!! Hawke looked like such a BAMF strutting out of there with his bros (and gals) flanking him lol And Cullen is like, Okay... I could fight you but there'd probably be nothing but a pile of bodies afterward. So just GO.  Hawke: That's right, bro. You're lucky I'm willing to walk away. LUCKY. *Isabela throws a Kirkwall gang sign for good measure*

Okay that got away from me a bit, but you get the picture.

Although knowing Varric's tendency to exaggerate, it was probably more like this in reality...

So...in my playthrough I didn't really have much of an opinion on cullen. I joked around and said what I thought. Would that be friendly or not? the tile of not friendly makes it seem that cullen hates you...but I was never really a jerk to him, just not overly friendly either. Im not sure which to pick for my keep, opinions? (my cannon hawke was pro-hawke, as a mage...lol. I sided with mages unless it was inconvenient...except at the end when I felt responsibility for fixing what anders caused and sided with the mages to protect them...also because meredith forced me to choose sides and it annoyed me) Which do you think would best reflect that? Would cullen dislike an independent hawke or respect her?

The tile is pretty intresting and I think more depended on your own feeling than any particular dialogue. In my opinion Cullen is very easily friendly and polite with you, even if you speak about mage rights he doesn't get less friendly with you. For me I think all my Hawkes were friends with Cullen, all of them had dialogue referring him as old friend etc. But maybe for players who don't like Cullen much and speak with him only when it was necessary chosing most negative dialogue options etc. he appeared more as enemy than friend.

There is couple tiles that don't represent well my DA playthroughs like Anders case, there is options only execute him or that he's alive and well. There is no option to kill him in the fight and that's what I did with my bloodmage Hawke. Minor detail I guess but some tile choices are so detailed like what happened to Bella or the dwarf woman in Dust town with baby, I didn't even know most of those things could happen! So maybe more choice for companion related things would be nice ^^;

I also think that with Meredith out of the way (and most of the blood mages, presumably dead or having fled Kirkwall), Cullen could let himself lead and rally the rest of the Templars to restore order.  Without having to worry about whether he was overstepping his authority or whether she had go to far and he needed to step in...that point had come and gone.  He's pretty much it in terms of authority left in Kirkwall (aside from maybe Aveline if she stayed, but Meredith had put the Templars in a position of power over the guard, essentially, for the last three years, so it would probably be more natural for the Templars to lead the restoration).

I think this is when he's been able to let his leadership abilities shine through, take charge and start organizing the rebuilding.  Instead of worrying if he would be mutinying if he went against Meredith's orders or if the mages had really gone as far as she thought and the Templars had to keep tightening their hold, he can focus on something much more straightforward and not hold himself back.

Oh! This is helpful, its good to know he said it to a pro-mage! Thanks :) Makes me wonder now how he must have felt about agreeing to arrest a friend of his...that would be hard...

:o I definitely liked cullen :D just maybe not my hawke...so figured any friendship would be one sided on cullens part since theres no indifference option. Thank you for the insight, good to know he stays friendly. I guess maybe he cares more about the person rather than their political views? That bodes well for DAI...

*chuckles* I like that @Raylis. Your canon Hawke was Pro-Hawke. I hear ya. Tbh, mine was, too.

The only time my Hawke was not on friendly terms with Cullen was when I play rogue and have Bethany taken to the Circle. Cullen and I are not on friendly terms in those Pt's, (rare as those pt's are). Not in my mind, at least.

Everytime I walk by him in the Gallows, I'm all like:

I just realised that we can not only name our own weapons (idk about mounts yet D:) but also our companions weapons! (that we make). I think I really need to spend sometime thinking of names for weapons for my companions! I already have one staff for Dorian, Hades. Too bad we can't name Cullen's weapons, I'd give Lionheart for him.

Hey, is anyone having any issues with the keep not keeping your selected choices?

For some reason it keeps reverting to a totally different world state from what I chose, even when I lock my choices. :/
