He's an actual journalist. I think he works for a newspaper and everything. The Houston Chronicler? I think.

He would just be under embargo. He can play it and prep a review, but can't talk abt it until they lift embargo.

Yeah my guess would be this is a fairly normal practice? I know it is for books and movies. Movies have advanced screenings for press and books have advanced copies (also really advanced copies are sent to those who are being asked to write the blurbs on the book covers). Even at the bookstore I used to work at they would ship us advanced copies of books, and we were encouraged to read them so that when the release date came we could presumably talk the books up to customers lol

Yes, it's pretty common. It's pretty good for the consumer so we can get proper reviews for it, rather than all the sites, the youtubers, etc, just rushing their reviews out the door as soon as possible and not having actually played the game properly.

I don't really follow YT-bers who review games because they have different opinions... specially if they are use to a certain kind of games, like shooters and what not, for example a lot of ppl told me not to play DA2 because it was so "terrible"  but when i got it I liked it a lot sooo... yea.. I suppose it depends on the perspective of every player and what type of game do u like, and if it suits you...

Yeah, I get that. I still watch people like TotalBiscuit though, even if he's more interested in game mechanics and the technical PC technobabble and I'm more interested in story. If a game is objectively bad, I'll know from listening to his critique, and I'll also know if it's worth my time researching it further.

Yes, look for people who like the same things in games that you do, and look at several to make sure you aren't just getting someone's sour grapes because something they thought should happen, didn't.

Well, there's a YT reviewer channel (joueurdugrenier) that I follows, if a game doesn't make it there it might be not so bad

But well, he's doing really bottom line.

Edit: when will the embargo got lifted? Anyone got any informatioN?

I remember one person's review of DA2 annoyed me so much... the guy's fragile masculinity had clearly been crippled by his encounter with Anders in the game; he had like this really long very-not-funny spoof of Anders constantly hitting on him while half-naked, and of course the whole time he looks grossed out and terrified.

yea even if you have a certain YT-ber that you follow and he/she is more interested in the mechanics and/or tactical viewpoint of the  game I still say try it for your self, and see if *YOU* LIKE IT ! Because as I said, there are different opinions  there weather is story based or not, you cannot be sure until u get your hands on it, and if you don't like it... then that might be a waste of you money... but if you *DO* than thats an "investment" in my eyes.

Ive tried a lot of different games based on YT-bers reviews and a lot of them I can say I didn't like that much .. so it all depends on how *YOU* FEEL about it if the story emerges for you or not...

I guess that for most YT reviewer it's like that. That guy I talked about is more like: if any game makes into his review, DON'T PLAY IT. It's really a bad bad one and usually he still reviews some of the ol' day consoles (Super Nintendo, Attari etc). And actually some of them are games I played as a kid and never understand why I bothered... Actually this guy is specialized in reviewing very bad (and mostly old) games. The ones that frustrate you the more you play. And the games made at that era usually don't really have great stories...

That would be Angry Joe.

In fairness to him, the guy is a huge Bioware and Dragon Age fan and he does acknowledge that people were going to be disappointed with DA2 because Origins was such a huge act to follow and he had the same reaction to Awakening being so relatively short. He did make some valid points about some of DA2's legitimate flaws (which even a defender of the game like myself will admit to), but they were mostly drowned out by the small, petty, superficial surface complaints that most critics of the game tend to blow up to eleven?

My daughters told me about a couple of these, and yeah. I do prefer a clear "signal" for romances so you can chose whether or not to trigger them, but there's a big difference between complaining legitimately about accidentally triggering something and overreacting to what you triggered. It was way too easy to trigger a romance in DAO, but I think the more appropriate response is laughter and "well, THAT was random" rather than freaking out. And that's what frequents saves are for (or just accept that the 'organic' experience you hoped for is truly organic and went to totally unexpected places :P ).
