I wanted to reply to those who spoke a little about self-inserts as well, and to say something to each of you. And there are more of you welcoming me here. You guys are moving fast.
Thank you all again. I will gladly reply to you all.
Welcome stay delurked! The more the merrier!! It's always great when new people join the thread that can add to the discussions we have
I think you'll find a lot of us play self inserts at least for the first PTs... some actually consider a little piece of themselves in every character they play
That's me.
I always put a piece of myself in what I do. I love playing self-inserts. Always in my first PTs, and sometimes even later after that. But I don't play ONLY self-inserts. I enjoy creating brand new characters as well. And I also love to create characters based on favorite one from other games/movies/stories.
Welcome! Stay de-lurked! We're a nice buncha people.
My canon Shepard in Mass Effect started off as a self-insert (because space!), but over the course of the three games she started to develop into her own person. All of my canon Dragon Age PC's are characters I've made up and developed from scratch. I actually find it a lot easier to play Dragon Age that way, but it's maybe because it reminds me of d&d a little, and I'm used to role-playing in that. Although I will say that it's really hard to create a character that doesn't have a little bit of yourself in them. It's how you connect, you know? It's the same with writing. You put a little bit of yourself into everything you write, but you also take a little bit of what you write into yourself.
ME was the one game I started with a male Shepard.
But I never finished that PT, because I wanted to create a self-insert. I love space too. I used to be exclusively a huge Sci-Fi fan. Then I was encouraged by a very dear friend of mine to try out DA. I was so impressed with the game, that I became a Fantasy fan as well. Dark Fantasy mostly. Now I'm a huge Sci-Fi and Fantasy fan.
Back to self-inserts, for me its easy and a lot more fun to play both ME and DA with self-inserts. I can easily do that in both games. But I have few characters I made up and developed from scratch myself. But you are so right. When I first created my "from-scratch" character, I felt something was... missing. When playing a self-insert, it helps me immerse myself into the story a lot better.
Hi! Welcome to the thread and stay de-lurked!

I love the little hairs on Jowans legs.
I have never personally used a self-insert in any RPG game. To be honest, I would be crap in Thedas and since I don't want the Inquisition to burn to the ground along with everything else, I think it is for the best that I never attempt one.
I think you'd be surprised of what you can do. If you ever want to try something new, try a self-insert. Who knows? You might be better than you think.
(Oh, I'm not trying to "convert" you or anything, LOL! Just trying to show you a new perspective. The final decision is always yours.)
Hey, welcome :3
I never play self-inserts, I find it hard to play that way ^^ I usually create my character before I play on my mind first and who they are going to romance etc, I get most out of the game that way
I have a friend who does that. But her first PTs are always a little close to a self-insert. Yet, she usually plays the same way you do (creates her character before playing the game: backstory, who she/he would romance, personality traits, everything; she's very thorough). I play both with self-inserts and new created characters, but I like playing self-inserts way better. But I always find it fun and challenging to try something new, so if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears... or eyes.
Welcome to the thread gamerDMD .
I was always sort of in awe of the fine folks around here, their knowledge of DA in general and Cullen in total was quite overwhelming to a forum & lore nublet like me. I lurked for the longest time, took a bang to the head one day and decided to post and I've never regretted it. I find myself learning all the time about Cullen, DA lore and even more general things, it's great fun with great people and I couldn't imagine not being a part of it now .
I have boring eyes, to match boring hair and pale, pale skin lol My eyes have an almost black outer ring to the iris, then a kind of browny/green mush-up as the main colour and big pupils, the crows feet add that wee bit extra something . Cullens eyes are lovely although I've never been all that keen on close ups of eyes, for me, they need a face to add that bit extra .
Another great video Lola, I actually quite like the look of that mini game! I'm not normally one for browser games but it looks pretty good
Happy Birthday john-in-france, hoping you have a wonderful 2nd half to your birthday(s)
Thank you for welcoming me. I feel the same. I've been lurking for a while too, and then decided to post. I'm so happy I did. But thanks for the encouragement.

Sorry for erasing your emoticons. The website won't let me use to many emoticons in one post. Maybe it's because I have a new account and recently posted here, since, unlike me, you guys can use many emoticons in your posts. Maybe this thing will pass, and I can use more emoticons in my posts as well.
