Eh, it's not obvious unless you want it to be. If what you expect of his romance is the possibility of some initial faux mage/templar tension, mage would be the choice; but if you're not interested in that and want to see what else his romance has to offer, go with whatever class you enjoy playing the most. I'm pretty comfortable romancing Cullen with a rogue because that's what I think works best with the romance dynamic I'm most interested in, and I don't feel I'll get any less from either his friendship and romance arcs for not being a mage.

You should always go with what feels right for you, not with what works best for someone else's game.

I'm definitely playing a Mage on my first playthrough to continue my DA tradition and for story. Particularly being the "Herald of Andraste" as a Dalish Elven Mage amuses me to no end. I'm also curious if Cullen will mention Surana in any way.

TBH, while I expect there to be reactivity to our class, I don't expect it to feature at the core of the romance since that would be too many word spent behind gates. I'll be surprised if being a mage makes that big of a difference.

Same here, but I still expect that there will be at least a few lines of reaction for that one. They should have guessed that MANY fans will romance Cullen with a mage just to have the conflicted romance part. Any way it's the headcannon that'll matter

I like older & darker vampire stories. The twilight cast is just too teenagery for my taste. The original Bram Stoker's Dracula is really great though...

You're right. And I suppose I can always go through the romance again with a mage and will have a little bit of new dialogue because of it. I've always been partial to my world state with my warden and Alistair on the throne anyway. Thank you! You've really helped me solve my dilemma

I'm a natural rogue. Cullen's getting a human rogue from me, at least in the 1st play through! I am looking forward to it with the intensity of a thousand suns. Ironically, it gives me chills...totally the good kind.   ​

True. Given some of their misconceptions about the fanbase... for all we know the only class with reactivity will be mage and he'll spend the whole time talking about Amell or Surana. (kidding! kidding! hopefully )
