That's exactly what I'd like too. We have to be all united in the face of the greatest danger. Plus, I didn't want to take sides in DA2 either. I always hoped for a chance to make peace between them. Maybe this time we'll be able to broker a peace between mages and templars... or not?

I'd like to think it's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Old grudges die hard, especially when both groups have baggage that has been simmering for nearly a millennium.

Late breaking news: In the tradition of the groundswell of support received by minor Dragon Age character Cullen, Black Templar Guy (BTG for short) has become the new fan favorite. Will the fans land him a spot in the as-yet untitled DA4? Only time will tell.

What she didn't say was *when* he left the templars. Maybe it's more symbolic, that he leaves them upon joining the Inquisition? 

 

That would be saaaad. I don't want him to leave, he's one of the last bastions of sanity left in this Order I so desperately want to save.

 

Hopefully it is just a symbolic gesture, that he's relieving himself of his Templar duties to focus on commanding the Inquisition's forces, like Cassandra has relieved herself of her Seeker duties to help the Inquisitor, but neither have truly abandoned their Orders. Just focusing on what needs to be done right now.

Love the idea of sparing with him that would be fun to show off some of our skills to him and then during a scene we fall on eachother and kiss....

Actually the whole reason for sparing was to find a way to get close to him. Haha! And sparing would be something new and fun to do.... with Cullen only.

I think it's "resolved" as in, you must pick a side to go with. I personally do not feel peace is possible between the groups at large at this point in time.

 

I think there's maybe hope for after the Breach, but tensions are way too strained, and both sides are way too jumpy.

It's from a rather recent novel, called The City of Stairs. 10/10, would definitely recommend. It had some fantastic dialogue, and a very strong female protagonist.

I'd love to be able to broker a deal with Mage/Templar but I have a horrid feeling it's either going to be all but impossible to achieve or just not an option....If forced, I know what side I lean on but still peace would be nice .

 

Maybe Cullen is charged with re-branding the Templar image and maybe a new name for the organisation, hence keeping the heraldry but changing the visual style. Sort of like Opal Fruits and Marathon bars the base and substance remain the same so we still know what they are but they both got an overhaul of name and packaging lol. What could we call the Templars if they weren't templars?...... The Cullenites for DA4   lol

You can ally with either the Mages or the Templars, right?

 

That's right, yeah. It's one of the big branching decisions you make very early on in the game's story, and there are exclusive plotlines on either side of that decision, which is really cool - you can spend hours on each of these different sorts of plots, depending on which one you pick. But even cooler than that, not only does it have a rippling impact on the story, but you'll actually see the result of not picking the other one within the world.

 

The differences in enemy factions and perhaps the creatures you encounter in the world will change based on your decision. So there are two sides to the coin, which is neat because then you start thinking about different playthroughs, different styles and the pros and cons of taking those different decisions. And I think for many games in the past, you'd think: "What is the pro of taking this decision?" Whereas now we're actually saying: "Here's the pro... and also here are the consequences of that."

 

So apparently this decision is a lot more involved than we'd initially figured, and there's no safe third option.

 

Though I still personally think this won't have the overarching impact some people expect, such as being able to free all mages forever, unless it's done by the Hand of Plot. Gaider's said before that they learned their lesson from the OGB/Sacrifice mess and won't be fracturing the world into two completely irreconcilable states again. We'll probably see the impact of this choice throughout this game's story depending on who you side with at the beginning, but in the end the plot will reconcile everything back into one consistent track that can be carried forward with minimal conflict, the way DA2's ending did.
