I wanted to be a poet, and somehow became a scientist.  Dragon Age (and fantasy stuff in general) inspires me to dream again and find the words that I've forgotten while trying to be a grown-up.

God, that sounds corny...tee hee!

Yeeaaaah, right. And Professor is the least stressful job in the U.S. I've got a few more I can sell you...   ^_^

Also written without ANY experience of faculty politics, etc. And depending on your discipline, you may travel extensively for research.

What a glorious world Thedas is. :)

Yeah  :) It took me a while to actually get to playing Dragon Age because I had to step away from gaming for a bit after Mass Effect (mostly because of the angry fandom, but also because Mass Effect ended up having a huge and profound influence on my life, and then it was over), but then one day I sort of just woke up and thought, "Yeah, you know, I think I'm ready to be emotionally battered by a Bioware game again." And I'm really glad I finally played!

Won't he sink with all his heavy plates templar armour? It must weight a ton!

:P They're on break, so they're not wearing their armour. I don't know what templars wear when they go swimming, so feel free to imagine whatever you like. Or nothing at all.  ;)

LOL It does indeed. It makes me wonder Varric's portrayal of Cullen was closer to the mark than we realize. Heh heh. I started writing the next installment... and I'm a little torn between my old Cullen and new Cullen.

Ears perking up like a bunny rabbit.... oooh? There's more of Chocolate coming? :o Excellent!

Eluvianus Rex...

For me...age 27 - the most amazing year of my life.  I fell in love (real, deep, passionate, soul-shattering love) for the first time.  I looked the best, felt the best, really knew who I was and what I wanted and what it meant to be alive. I was on fire!!

So, at 20...I have a feeling the best is yet to come for you!!

Gah...I sound so...old...ugg!!!  :P

*tears up* dude, I TOTALLY needed to hear this. I feel like a total rut in the road turning 23 in a few days and still trying to get through school. I live in an area where if you aren't settled down and pregnant at 20, or at least carry a bachelor's degree at 22, people consider you a failure...and while I know, realistically, its not like this everywhere, surroundings can sometimes consume a person's reality, so its nice to hear someone actually say that my life isn't behind me and the best hasn't even happened yet. Thats a really hopeful feeling, so thank you. like, Seriously.

Anyway...enough of my TMI...how 'bout that Cullen, ey? :P

You're igniting the Cullen x Anders shipper in me but I'll refrain from commenting what I like to think Cullen thought while watching Anders swim through the lake :P

I wasn't aware that Cullen x Anders was a thing, but now I think about it, it's obvious, isn't it? :P

It does make me wonder why Cullen doesn't recognise Anders, since  you'd  think that the guy who's repeatedly tried to escape would be recognised or have his description memorised by every Templar working in the tower? Maybe Anders was simply locked up in solitary too often for Cullen to become familiar with him?

Or maybe like with not noticing that a Mage Hawke was obviously an apostate, Cullen was simply playing dumb because he knew that Anders was doing good work as a healer for the refugees, so he didn't want to bring him in?

Here's how I imagine it happening  ;)

A few of the templars are on furlough and are relaxing in the lake. All of a sudden, there's a lot of angry yelling and crashing noises coming from the tower. Cullen turns just in time to see Anders booking it as fast as he can out the door, and just as Cullen and the other templars are about to leap to action to help detain him, Anders rips off his robe and dives into the lake in his birthday suit. Everyone is too appalled and flabbergasted to react right away, and in the meantime, Anders is gone.

That does sound like Awakening Anders, who seemed like the kinda guy who'd enjoy a lot of gratuitous nudity... Gratudity! :P

I don't think he was oblivious of Anders, despite Cullen being generally oblivious in DA2. He can go look for Anders in Dark town in Act 3, but just not find him. Even Meredith knew about Anders.

If you're willing to take several tens of thousands of dollars in pay cut, then I can highly recommend working at a community college instead of a university! Sure, you may have to eat ramen noodles sometimes (that also comes with the "got a doctorate in liberal arts field" and "work in higher ed in a red state") but hey, no one expects anything of you in regards to research, to the point where even if you DO do research and get published, no one will acknowledge it. Bonus: most of your colleagues only have a Master's so they hate you.

Sorry, can't let you off that easy...

My early twenties were rough on me too.I grew up in weird backwoods area and was the first person in my family to graduate high school. And then I left to go to college and I felt like such a small piece of such a great world, like I was being swallowed up in it.  It passes, though you still feel pulses of it from time to time.  But something amazing is waiting for you, and when you stumble upon it, you can look back and see all the weird places along your life that put you there and think...damn...I survived all that and i am still here and I have something special in me that is mine and mine alone.

And it is hard to say what will trigger it...whether it is loss or love or finding something that makes you laugh until your sides hurt.  But it will happen!

Life is strange and crazy and beautiful. And there is a lot left to go!!!

Ok, lump in throat...gottta chill ;)  Sorry for getting all deep and stuff.  I have had like 2 hours sleep and am way too sensitive!!

Oh, man, don't let them get to you like that! I'm in my 50s and completely restarted my life several times, and I mean as in starting completely over (when I left my ex, I took my two kids and not much else.) Life isn't a race to be the first to grab some gold ring, it's an adventure to jump into (though you enjoy it more in the long run if you're also reasonably responsible). And if college/high school were the best days of someone's life, they've forgotten to live it because I've had MUCH more fun as a mature adult. ;)

edited - for tired grammar.

D'aww! FWIW I was in school until I was 29. Reached my seventh continent at 32. Got my first bonafide retirement plan (with an employer contribution! woo hoo!) at 33. Man, you've got tons of cool times ahead of you, and everyone's path is different.

Gotta love this thread.  We are basically on here because of our mutual obsession with a fictional character.  Imagine my surprise to find deep, thoughtful, funny, snarky, hilarious, kind, and sensitive folks, all mashed in here together.  You guys are too awesome!!!  This is why I keep returning!

Oh...and to see the newest Cullen pics/news/fan fics, of course...

Ah, it's so encouraging to hear my life's not going to end after college. :D  I mean, of course I did know that without telling but right before graduation "the real life" has started to feel more and more scary.

I ended up majoring in a subject that I have no interest in. (International Trade... the "international" part got me while making back-up plans and I accidentally got in...) I will be 23 in a few months but I feel like I've been doomed to do work I'll hate. But I suppose I still have hope.

Here college education is free so but lately the government has been making it harder to get a new degree if you already have one which... hasn't really helped as a year ago people used to tell me "Just get a new degree and everything will be fine!"
