I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give Cullen a bit of red lyrium...A little bit...
Think of it as giving catnip to a cat...

Do any of you really think that we can get a sort of Happy Ending on this Cullen Romance story? Or just ride the tragedy? Some folks discussing Cassandra's Romance are quite sure that romancing her will end mostly in Tragedy.
I think there may be several ending types just as there were for Alistair, some might be considered tragic, but I also think there will be a happier ending as well. DG
loves fan tears too much not to have spun a doozy with Briane Battye over Cullen. I think we have many surprises incoming...I have the wine ready and shall pour goblets for the thread when the tears begin...
Of course we may be pleasantly surprised with no angst at all...yeah, I don't believe that one either. ![]()

Yeah, red lyrium is gonna be a problem. I don't want Templars anywhere near the stuff, cause they get supercharged as well as go nuts. And the red lyrium seems to be infesting Thedas like a virus.
Especially since you don't need to be actively holding it to be affected, because we saw in DA2 that Varric started hearing things and acting erratically just from being in close proximity to the small shard of the Red Lyrium Idol.
I want to avoid that stuff like the plague.

If it is not written by David Gaider, you can expect a happy ending. Mostly.

Too true, and it wouldn't be fun without some angst. Though I think if the ending was unavoidably tragic, we wouldn't have had several people telling us how much we'll enjoy the Cullen romance.

Different endings like with Alistair? Would that mean that mage Inquisitor would get sad ending and non-mage Inquisitor happy ending with Cullen? I sure don't hope this is another: only noblewoman gets happy ending! since that's boring.

True, I've come to associate DG with angsty romances....
BB was the writer for Cullen, but DG is the overall lead writer (editor?) for the romances.

Hey, I got a pretty sweet ending to my Fenris romance. Alistair, too. All comes down to player choice, in the end. DG seems intent on leaving it up to us, doesn't he?

I suspect it will be more subtle than that. Choices in game etc.
Pure Speculation: female Trevelyan who embraced the Herald thing, may become the next Divine for all we know...leaving her lover for the Maker ![]()

He's our GRRM and Joss Whedon...
We should just thank our lucky stars that he's not nourished by a strong diet of nightmare fuel and the desire to make the most innocuous things in existence utterly terrifying... so for the moment at least, we're safe from Gaider becoming our Steven Moffat!

Well, we know he's going to collect some fan tears, that's a given. But I think there'll be a variety of endings too (and possibly multiple choices of romance endings for some of the LIs).

I don't know that I consider that the only happy ending, though certainly the mistress option or grey-wardens-together option are less than ideal (I suspect Anora's actions on the throne by herself will cause Alistair to feel some guilt, at the least, for dodging his obligations). And I think they said no royal marriages (or marriages) this time... ![]()

What is it with angst ? I don't know about you people but I like to have a normal and decent relationship....Drama is overrated..

Oh, I don't want a lot. But a little struggle (Cullen coping with having feelings for a mage or for a heathen Dalish, for instance) adds a little spice. I'm not a believer in true-love-at-first-sight-effortless romances. I don't like high, sustained levels of angst, however (one of the reasons I found Isabela's romance in DA2 refreshing.)

Alistairs romance can be very tragic: Final sacrifice, total breakup (persuasion fail).
Not everyone likes feeding Alistair to Morrigan for the Dark Ritual...or becoming his mistress.
Also the issues for Ferelden of Noble marriage (no heirs), or Anora the Backstabber on the throne.
DG angst and complexity...and each time I play it through, it still has the ability to hit you in the feels. The sign of a good, but evil writer. ![]()

Story is conflict.
We want a story, not our real life, often totally functional relationships out of this game.

Oh that is what you mean. The best relationships I have had or have seen is a relationship that evolved from best friends into lovers. So not much angst but more of an evolution of understanding.

Oh dear, remember when Dorian found the red lyrium shard in the E3 demo....
Yeah, though I think Dorian at the very least would be smart enough to only pick it up if he had a way of protecting himself and others from the effects of the lyrium.

With normal lyrium I'm not hugely concerned about his dependancy, I reckon he'll have it pretty well managed and under control.
However, that red lyrium is potentially a nightmare, I've read very little about it so forgive my potential ignorance on the subject. Perhaps the red lyrium only turns templars already in withdrawl from normal lyrium?, Do we know if the red lyrium can affect mages too? I'm trying to figure how it's only affecting Templars in DAI, does that mean it's a voluntary intake? We know it affected Varric and Bartrand but it didn't affect Hawke (or anyone else that went to the Deep Roads). Questions, questions.... lol

Well, it affected Meredith pretty well, and she probably wasn't in withdrawal.

Well, it affected Meredith pretty well, and she probably wasn't in withdrawal.
Indeed but she voluntarily took it upon her person for a lengthy period of time. and it turned her crazy, sort of bringing about the extreme emotions of a withdrawl, paranoid, mood swings and such.
I'm just trying to figure out how the red lyrium takes hold of so many Templars, not mages or other people in DAI (assumption since we haven't seen any that I know of) when they are both seen in some clips in the same areas and zones around the same times.
I have nothing to back up anything I'm saying lol just my mind running away with itself ![]()
