I've just zero'd my Freedom and maxed my Rulership and Prosperity, all at the same time. I'm not sure how I got here, but apparently I am dictator and my people hate me and now I'm just waiting for a popular revolt to overthrow me and burn me at the stake in front of the Divine or something. Worst. Ruler. Ever.
This thing just sounds stressful.
I feel less bad about not yet having a device that can handle the keep now.

I'm feeling more and more anxious as Inquisition's release date slowly trudges towards us, and it doesn't help with all of the hype of the forum xD I've never felt this excited for a game since Origins; nearly six years ago. While I don't post very often in here, I regularly check up on you guys and never fail to see something that makes me smile. I really thank you all for being an amazing part of this online community; I've had a bumpy past few days and reading up on stuff here on the forums has managed to cheer me up.
I probably won't come on to the forums for quite a while after the game comes out, but I'll be back sometime. :33 The Cullen thread was the first that I came to on the new forums, and I would like to thank you all again for being amazing, lovely people.
I made a portrait of our dear general for you all >.>

Yes, it was good. Sumalee's voice is a bit flat at certain times, but I still like the American voice.
Hmm interesting. I'm from America...but I think I will be going with Alix first. Since I am doing both an elf and human playthrough...at the same time...maker help me.
It was awesome. Far better than I expected it to be. To me, they really did a good job hooking you in from the very first scene. *curls around calendar and sobs quietly*
8 more days for me and the wait is getting to me...I must get this game or I may explode. Lol, well at least everything sounds like it will be pretty good.

Lol, good! I disappeared for quite a while since I am really trying to avoid the beginning's spoilers...although could someone tell me if it lived up to their expectations? Was it good?
I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I think it's a good intro for both experienced and new players. They showed some normal level play, and it looked quite doable even for me (I don't think that's spoilery?)

I'm also American, but usually prefer British/Aussie/New Zealand accents, but I enjoyed Sumalee's today. I also do consecutive PTs (in fact I'll probably have 3 or 4 going by the time I'm halfway in on the first one), so one will get Alix, and the other Sumalee. I think my warrior will get Sumalee's voice, and Ryumka will get Alix's. Though after watching the non-mage female qunari, I'm now a little torn between a qunari and Derzka Lavellan as my first warrior, though it'll still probably be Derzka. ![]()

I'm central time (NA) and my digital countdown clock reads: 7 days 2 hours. I had to go digital or risk getting physically violent with anyone in line ahead of me. lol
That sounds much better than 8. Or we could just say 1 more weekend. Anything to make it a little bit better.

Sumalee all the way! I actually thought hers expressed more raw emotion than Alix did. Since my men and women are gonna be emotional as hell, I'm definitely gunning for the American voices.
I'll probably go generic Fantasy British, since, you know, fantasy.
I also love Alix's voice so far, as she reminds me of Hawke. But I haven't really heard the American voices much so far.

It is decided then. My Female Mage Trevelyan will romance Cullen.
I really want Solas as a love interest for her but he is not into human females so Cullen it is. This female Trevelyan like nice guys and Cullen fits the bill perfectly.
Solas will be her BFF.

Rivalmances are gone. You either complete the romances through the approval path, or don't complete the romance at all.
Quoth the Laidlaw: "a character being eligible for a romance doesn’t necessarily guarantee that they will be successfully won over. These characters have their own agendas and opinions, and the choices a player makes during the game have a definite impact on their affections. That’s intentional."
So if you butt heads with Cullen -or any of the LIs- over everything all the time, or go out of your way to antagonize them, most likely they just won't be interested in a relationship with you.
Speaking of butting heads...from what we've seen of Josephine so far it looks like she's the advocate of (pacifist) politics in lieu of violence, and Leliana the advocate of indirect subterfuge and assassination. Since it was likely important for the writers to differentiate their roles in the Inquisition to give us that sense of leadership and control over the final outcomes of missions, logically Cullen would be the advocate of more direct and immediate uses of force to solve problems. I don't know if I'm the only one who's a bit worried about this, but I'm really hoping Cullen, being the military mind of the group, doesn't advocate really drastic and forceful courses of action each time the Inquisition is faced with a dilemma.
I guess it's because my headcanon of his character is that he saw something in my Warden beyond just a pretty face. I played a nice Warden who tried to save everyone - even though it meant I had to go against what he wanted me to do to the remainder of the Circle - and I know that in DAII he reflects on that and actually basically agrees that it was decent that a few mages managed to be rescued despite the chaos at the time. My Warden was sheltered throughout most of her life, was surrounded by gossipy mages who hesitated to even call her their friend because she was (presumably) so gifted, and yet managed to gather and unite all of Ferelden against a common enemy. If you choose the option "I knew I would not fail my Harrowing", Cullen also comments in Origins that she was very confident in herself. I feel like, in a way, even though my Warden was a mage, Cullen saw in her a person that he admired (and perhaps even aspired to be like, judging by his now infinitely more confident demeanor and Mr. Greg Ellis' new deep and gravelly dulcet tones LOL no but seriously from the scenes we've seen so far I haven't heard the softer and higher pitched voice I'm used to hearing Cullen use) and that it was this that was the source of his affections for her.
We know he continues to think fondly of the Warden in DAII. We also know that he is a man of duty and principle who is respectful of authority but also not afraid to challenge it. I just hope that he won't blame my Inquisitor too much if he does end up advocating really direct approaches and I don't agree because honestly, isn't that what he's all about, too? I am basically the biggest, sappiest pacifist ever and I'd rather be diplomatic and only use force when absolutely necessary. He's kind at heart, but admittedly a lot more firm about the use of force at times, and I'd hate to disappoint the dude I'm trying to woo. But I have my principles, too
I just really hope that he's, you know, nice, even though he's the leader of an army. Please be nice, Cullen. You look like you're nice. ಥ_ಥ Don't make me disappoint you

I've been a bit concerned about this recently as well. I don't imagine myself favoring Cullen's war room suggestions very often, and I hope that doesn't mean I miss out on positive content.
Edit: I guess I'm NOT out of likes anymore, 20 seconds later.

Ok, so how, just how are you guys managing to balls up the text game so epic-ly?
(I'm joking don't hate me.
)
Hint from one who may have spent the housekeeping on refresh keys, get the adviser slots filled as fast as you can! Once you have reasonable stats for cunning etc (they all give + 20 bonuses to different things) you'll stop losing every roll and be able to pick up clues etc without suffering the penalties, which makes things much easier. I ended up my last game with freedom etc at 100 and bugger all of riots of rev, peril and twilight. Also get the hunter guy, his perk rocks for removing peril and revolution, seriously he is the best! I'm pretty sure I got the best ending from the Grand Cleric largely due to his aid and paying vast sums of cash to continue until I memorized the card options
. The only thing I didn't do was open that stupid damn Chantry door and find out what they're concealing but THAT was 'cause I am a moron who didn't realise that you can't just continue doing stuff after you use all your marketplace days. I could theoretically opened it up anytime later in the game. I'm still really bitter about that.

Oh nope that is not spoilery, at least for me. I just don't want to hear the convos or see the cutscenes. Anything else I am fine with.

I know I am going to use all the voices at some point, but right now I think Alix will be the voice for my Fem Quizzie and....I am kind of torn for my Male Quizzie. Regardless they all are pretty nice!

XD I ordered mine from Amazon.com and got two day shipping which is techniqually one day shipping for those in America. So I will get it around 2:00 pm EST.

I only heard a few lines from Sumalee but the ones I have heard, I totally hear the emotion and the raw power. Bioware really got some killer VAs.

I don't know. I'll try on both voices for size, but I'm worried that Alix's voice will be too high-pitched for what I want in my rogue although she may work out well for a mage or an elf in my mind. We'll just have to see how that goes when I can see what the voices do with the face I eventually make.
As far as butting heads with Cullen, I don't plan to be super-nice all the time. I tend to play pragmatic. I like to save everyone, but sometimes the straightforward military approach is the best way to save the most lives, believe it or not. So I can see myself using a mix of diplomacy, subterfuge and military to get my larger goals achieved. I'm actually sort of super excited about the war table aspect of the game, it seems to add a layer of table-top strategy game to the mix, and I still love those.
So I can't picture myself having to worry about that one too often unless there are strong feelings in the room about who should use which approach and when that I might disagree with.

I'm not sure we've heard enough out of both of them in emotional situations yet.
So, since I don't know when I'll have my copy in my hands, but my younger daughter has preordered it digitally, she's set up a twitch stream so I can watch her play without having to lurk in her bedroom.

Ok guys. Need some serious advice, it is a matter of world state's for my mage playthrough (I know, very crucial).
I want to romance Cullen with an elf mage.... But I am wondering which world state to have her in. I would like her to be in my female human noble rogue> female hawke rogue world state to break up the rogue pattern. However.... I am thinking that it would be better to have her in the same world state as my female elf mage> male hawke warrior world state... The reasoning being that there may be a few lines or two that Cullen says regarding the Warden if they are a female mage.... Thoughts?
... so crucial...
P.S. remembered Cullen doesn't mention the female elf mage in DA2... Only the Amell... Perhaps I'm getting my hopes too high for references.

Don't worry guys, Cullen likes chess
which indicates to me that he values keen judgment, thoughtfulness, planning, strategy, and the ability to consider multiple options. I'm pretty sure that, while he'll give you a military option if you ask for one, he may also tell you how confident he is in the military option being successful.
That's the thing though - Cullen is surely a fantastic strategist, and chess is a great game to exercise that sort of skill with, but is there a humanist aspect to chess? Is the thoughtfulness involved with calculating your next move in chess the same as the thoughtfulness involved with being kind to another person, apart from perhaps throwing the game to let your opponent win out of niceness? I guess I want to know if, beyond that tactical mindset, he'll understand when we want to choose a kinder approach to dealing with enemies. You can crunch numbers about your chances of success with a particular tactic, to be sure, but for so long so many of the people in Thedas have been using force against each other in their attempts to achieve their goals at the expense of compassion. I'd just like to have the opportunity to inspire some of the people in Thedas to do the right thing because they want to or agree with the reasoning (however begrudgingly) without the use of force. Cullen's certainly a reasonable fellow, of course. I guess I'm just wondering how he's been written in a way that balances that need to have an upfront military strategist with my perception of Cullen as a "kind, if firm" kinda guy. ![]()
Basically, this game needs to come out already, yo.

That however, was prompted by his thinking of Hawke as an Amell.
He's probably just as likely to remember elfmage as human!mage.
If he mentions anything about it at all...He may not imagine she'll be all that charmed by him talking about a previous romantic fixation.

This would be my guess as well. There's no Amell connection this time around. So I would expect the odds of a reference to be the same for surana vs. amell warden.
