Life has been a roller coaster for Cullen as a Templar, especially by the end of Dragon Age II where he had to stand against Knight-Commander Meredith. At least this gesture caught the eye of Cassandra, who recruited him to the Inquisition as the commander of its forces. He's a leader at heart, always there to provide tactical advice, but when he's not doing that you can find him playing chess. He does let his guard down, but it's rare. This is understandable; he's been through a lot, and you learn even more about it in Inquisition. With some support and guidance, maybe you'll find your way into his heart. Deep down, he's a good guy who wants to do the right thing.

Maybe choosing to charge actually lowers your approval with him as opposed to using the mountain path?

I never really thought that he was checking her out. All he really does is glance you up and down, a quick assessment of the person that holds the fate of everyone's lives in their hands. And charging is the more military approach to the situation so I don't think he would disapprove of that.

I really wonder how the Advisor's approval works. For companions we have things like

 

"Cassandra slightly approves"

"Cassandra approves"

"Cassandra greatly approves"

 

"Cassandra slightly disapproves"

etc

 

It'll be tricky not to have indicators for Advisors.

Lol, could you imagine if they had that in DA2? I'd constantly have "Anders is going to kill you in your sleep" disapproval ratings popping up.

It's really good. Makes it so much more...alive and real feeling, than if they make it into mathematical additions and subtractions.

For all of those people out there who take joy in hating Cullen because you think he's a mage hater, 4:21 in that video is for you. It takes a real man to admit one's mistakes.  I am very proud of you, Cullen. Aww yaaaaas. *-*

I do have to wonder whether what he says right before that about his relationship status is different if you import a playthrough with a female mage warden

Let's just say that he had toned down his hatred to mages to a very very very moderate & really great POV. He said that to a male qunari mage, so I don't think that he'll change his course to a female mage.

 

There's another video of him having same dialogue with a female warrior Trevelyan. She got more flirt option apparently.
