I always wished that Origins had addressed the fact that Duncan marches the Dalish Warden to Ostagar while they're Tainted, then puts them through a whole mess of nonsense in the Korcari Wilds before they're allowed to go through the Joining to cure them. It's not like they're in danger of dropping dead or turning into a ghoul at any moment... oh wait?

That and the Dwarven Noble being unable to do anything to reclaim their birthright and take the throne due to being a Warden, when you did all the work to plonk Bhelen or Harrowmont on there, and you're all set to put Alistair on the throne despite the same Warden rules applying to him, but in comparison, his claim to his throne is far less legitimate than the Dwarven Nobles to the Dwarven throne?

As for the Human Noble, Duncan basically twists your father's arm to recruit you and risks both the heirs to Highever getting killed at either Ostagar or through the Joining, which would let Howe take control of your ancestral home, simply to gain one Warden.

I always felt that those three Origins and the least reasons to put up with being a Warden once all was said and done with the Blight. And if they'd romanced Morrigan, that wanting to throw in the towel and just leave to be with their lover and their child, would definitely be a far more appealing prospect.

But yeah, I hope that DAI will address the Wardens who went through the Eluvians with Morrigan, especially to clear up the thing from DA2 that suggests they were back in Denerim several years later?

My Couslands were mostly OK with Duncan since he did try to help their father when the attack came, and the HN origin is the only one with a clear "out" at the end from the Wardens (marry Alistair or Anora). My Aeducan had been ready to use the Wardens to get out of Orzammar but wasn't so much grateful as assuming that of course the Wardens would want her talents. The Wardens are, sadly, about as close to a normal life as a circle mage can hope for, judging by Kinloch and Kirkwall. My Brosca almost worshipped the ground he walked on. My Dalish were cynical enough to realize that he was trading a "cure" (which wasn't really a cure) for their talents and connections to the Dalish.

My mages, Brosca, and city elves were the only ones to embrace the Wardens wholeheartedly since it provided an escape from different kinds of prisons. But my city elves were carrying a major load of anger at Duncan for standing aside during the kidnapping and waiting to see if they were strong enough to extract themselves (and therefore worthy), then using the situation to force them into the Wardens. While they wouldn't say it to Alistair because he hero-worshipped Duncan, if Duncan had survived, he'd have had to send them elsewhere eventually because they'd have fought his authority constantly.

FROM
SISTER NIGHTINGALE

Well, this was one bet I didn't expect to lose. Now that your point's been made, when will you shave that frightful thing off? You're scaring Harding and Cole.

  Cole, maybe, but if she wants me to think Harding did anything besides covering a giggle... That girl has seen much worse things than Stroud's mustache on Cullen.

And my thoughts went to tickling with it, then I saw I wasn't the first to have that thought

Wow, it's kinda sad how they don't even try to frame the conflict as "shades of grey" anymore, It all runs down to poor oppressed mages versus big bad evil Templars. -_- It's not like it hasn't always been that way since Origins, but... there's no point in playing all surprised and upset that the majority of the player base sides with the mages later, when they frame their own narrative so blatantly slanted to victimize one side and demonize the other.

Ah well, at least my playthrough is still my own, and my canon is more important than BW's. :P Three more days and I shall rectify this poorly told tale.

@davidgaider I told you not to open the lid on the Cullen forum, but noooooo, you had to go there

Urgh. I love that we continue to be the butt of every joke about the fandom. Yeah, a lot of love there.

This sounds like it's based on someone's WS, actually.

Those people lack any ability to think for themselves, rather.  Pity their sad intellect.

It's an official tl;dr of DA2+Asunder for new players (and old players who don't wanna read the book, I guess).

It'd be a great asset to show to every new player so they can understand what's going on in the world in under five minutes, except it's so slanted that it doesn't represent what actually went down and sorta railroads these new players into one side instead of leaving the story neutral enough that they can make their own decisions. Kinda useless as a tl;dr if it makes you have to explain even more stuff after the video is done.

I don't know who I'm kidding wishing for a neutral narrative in this supposedly "shades of grey" conflict, though, the writing of these games has never not been extremely biased towards the same one side from the get go anyway. :P

Well, they did do this a bit to much in DA2, when they made everything into a shade of grey. I mean did every mage we meet have to be a fraking blood mage? Heck, they even ruined my play style a bit with the blood mages are the evils, and must be put down because we must have many type of ninjas enemies for the game play aspect.

I won't let my 15 year-old play the game.  So she has been stomping all around the house, claiming persecution.  I reminded her that I was willing to let her play Origins (albeit UNMODDED ... she complained about the lack of mods, too, lol) but I have still been labeled the worst over-protective parent EVER.  Her words, not mine.

It is weird...I was always very pro-mage because in origins, they really are presented in the best light.  You know, thoughtful amazing people like Wynne and wild but smart people like Morrigan.  And the lovely fella in the fade who tells you about the litanny of adralla.  So you think, damn, mages are treated like crap just for being born different, and it is hard not to sympathize with them. Most folks are not fans of caging people "for their own good", so I imagine the pro-mage camp was the more popular one overall for Origin players.

Even Uldred's rebellion followers and Jowen, who use blood magic, come across as very sympathetic to me.  Jowan didn't want to be made tranquil, so he did what he had to do. The mage you find on the floor..."we just wanted to free ourselves".  It is some moving stuff!  Ulrdred was a terrible fiend, but he seemed the exception to the rule.

Then DA2 happened.

What struck me in that game was not that all the mages were blood mages and all the templars were fiends...that was just poor writing and plot development to try to pigeon whole "grayness" after the plight of the mages was presented in the first game in such a biased way.  No...what really hit it home for me was TEVINTER!  Fenris talking about Tevinter...how free mages live and act in Tevinter.  Slavers, magisters, all powerful, above the law and unstoppable.  It was MUCH more powerful than reading about all that in the codexes on Andraste in the first game.

So I guess, the only really fair way to present the conflict is to start with Andraste, the formation of the Chantry, and the evils it was put in place to stop (using modern Tevinter as an example of what happens when mages are in power) and THEN present how the Templar order, when taken to an extreme, can be wrong and cuase more damage than their initial intent.  It would have been a better way to present the complexity of the issue to a newbie player.

My kid is completely brilliant.  Except for telling me directly that she planned to merely visit Youtube and get the gist of the game regardless of me allowing her to play it.  See?  Smart enough to know how to get around my restriction, since she isn't TECHNICALLY playing the game.  But she's fifteen and hasn't figured out yet that bragging how she knows about sneaking around behind me is a big no-no.  So I responded, "Then there's no reason you EVER have the chance to play the game, I guess.  Since it'll be all ruined by the time I agree you're old enough to play it."

More wails and whines ensued.

Oh god, me too!  I was thinking the other day, "WTH am I supposed to do this time?" So then I figured I needed multiple playthroughs, and somewhere along the way I'd figure out which choice ultimately made the most sense.  My husband groaned when I explained how I was going to figure it out ... he said, "Hey, I might cuddle with you again sometime after New Years.  Maybe."  He's decided to hate Cullen, btw.
