So, a quick round up, because I think this is an important discussion: 
 

So here's a question for y'all. This thread has been really good with the spoilers, but I think all hell will break loose on Tuesday, the NA release date. There will, however, be some of us still waiting for later release dates. 
 
When do we remove spoiler embargo?
 
A lot of our folks will still be waiting, patiently. 
 
On the other hand, the tidal wave of NA game players will need a place to discuss and this is the 'official' Cullen thread.

I think that other people from outside this forum/thread will start throwing spoilers from Tuesday (since were enchanted with the Cullen) and most probably it won't manage to prevent.
At least I would like so that by Friday they refrain.

Just to make sure I'm understanding, are you suggesting we wait to allow free spoiler discussion until Friday? 
 

I'd suggest after the 21st,but then again there are countries that will get to play the game later than that.
To be honest I'm kinda of expecting an invade as soon as the game is released in NA and I don't mean trolls necessarily,but also people who are excited for the game and want to discuss Cullen.
I'll personally try to avoid the forums as much as I can after the 17th.

Indeed, I think Tues will be the witching hour. I think something for us all to consider is that the influx of new people won't be following any rules. Do we restrict our own folk nevertheless? 
 

@R2 I won't have the game until Friday so spoilers for me are going to be moot unless I go completely dark which I don't want to do. Once NA releases, imo the floodgates will open and quite rightly Cullenites and others are going to want to gush and discuss, we shouldn't stop that. All I would suggest is that we ensure anyone wanting to remain completely dark be invited to the No Spoilers group, it provides them an option but unfortunately they will rapidly become the minority so it would be unfair and stressful to try and keep this thread spoiler free.

The highlighted is exactly my concern. Increased use of the no spoiler group is a good suggestion.
 

I'd prefer if major spoilers were kept under spoiler tags. People will anyways be playing in different paces, some getting through game in couple days and some spending months before getting to the end ^^; I don't think there it's possible to completely avoid spoilers if you still want to read the forums and use tumblr but I just hope big story related one's and in Cullen's case major Cullen one's wouldn't be spoiled.
 
I wonder how much new people will come to thread as well to talk about Cullen. Random visitors most likely don't care about using spoiler tags : /

I like this suggestion of continuing to encourage major spoilers under spoiler tags, since indeed, it will take folks some time to get to the ending. Or to see all the endings and permutations, for example. But, I'm thinking smaller spoilers, e.g., Varric's nickname for Cullen, screenshots of innocuous plot points, could be set free.
 
As to the highlighted, we've already seen an influx of lurkers with small numbers of posts, so I think we have evidence already that lots of new folk will come seeking a place to discuss. We can share our best practices about spoiler tags on the fly, but there are practical limitations there as well.

ahhhh.... first bull and his bisexuality, now transgendered people... i like the diversity (and the fact that he's voiced by jen! ;u; ), but i want to laugh when i think about all those "overly manly" homophobic cis males, trololo xD (especially when i know, that people in my country are still majorly prejudiced :/)

If they're that hung up that encountering a pixel character bothers them, they're playing games from the wrong company (or the right one, maybe, if it gets them over themselves). Sadly, I don't think there's any country without substantial prejudice still.

As someone who is suppose to be avoiding this thread (but now finding it difficult not to lurk out of sheer boredom) I think you're suggestion works best.
I think those who continue to read after NA need to understand it's a risk they're taking (including myself) when reading the thread but as a general consideration keep using spoiler tags for major spoilers while also informing any new posters of such considerations.

I think, however, new posters are generally going to have the spoilers in their first post & not aware of using spoilers.

 

This is why it's good to have a global release date.

 

Luckily for me 1 out of the 2 nights I have to worry about it, I'm going to the midnight screening of Mockingjay & the other I'm finally going to read The Masked Empire after having it for a couple of months.

I know I'm late to the poll, but I agree with lifting the spoiler embargo on the 18th while still encouraging major spoilers to stay under spoiler tags. Thanks to leaks and whatnot people already know even the identity of the big bad and the ending for some companions, but those are things I don't want to know until the game tells me. Minor spoilers like nicknames don't really hurt anyone, but there's stuff out there that can ruin someone's game before they even start, so keeping those under tags would be the best common courtesy for all Cullenites starting at different days, playing at different speeds, etc.

Agree with all points. On new folk, while their first post will no doubt be the spoilery-est, I think if we're all vigilant in gently reminding to put in spoiler tags, in thread or via PM, I think we'll be ok.

You know, I really don't know if there's more that can be done simply because of the unknown factor of new posters.

The excitement will be massive and you can understand people wanting to express their appreciation for Cullen and/or game, so of course we want them to post.

I think that's the most we can try & hope for really.

 

The other consideration is we may find for a little while a lot of people not posting simply because they cannot pull themselves away from the game.

 

I've appreciated everyone's consideration & efforts to use spoilers for people like me, but I cannot expect others to keep using them for another week or so (especially for little spoilers) when they game we've all being dying to be released has come out.

I don't mind, but I do think that everyone would need to have a similar understanding of what people felt was minor or large spoiler to avoid some confusion.

I think R2 probably had the best idea, I think it will be very hard to avoid small spoilers like Varric's nickname for Cullen being used.

 

We could always just do our best until Friday but I still think people like me need to understand the risks of coming here after NA release.

My Origin account updated this morning to give me a code and the spoilery achievement list I was starting to worry as some people were saying that their orders seemed bugged. I had pre-ordered way back in August, paid for at the same time yet my Origin up until the other day was still at status : processing. Tis all good now, it's completed just have to wait until Tuesday @ 17.00hrs to hit the download button (and hope it doesn't take a week to do lol) Somebody else with a poor connection said it was 70hrs estimate for download......   kinda bad but WORTH IT lol

 

Everyone has a different idea of what grade of spoiler a spoiler is but I think that anything directly linked to Companions, recruitment, romance and story should remain classed as HIGH and definately tagged, with a small disclaimer of the content e.g "Tagged for main story". I know I'm guilty of just hitting spoiler tags as sometimes it's fic or piccies in them, people avoiding spoilers won't want to miss those kinds of awesome imo. As always the Cullenites and regulars will be pretty respectful, as we have shown but we can't control visitors unfortunately, so with the best will in the world it's going to be an "enter at your own risk" I think.

 

I want Cullen & any companions that I get friendly with to start calling me by my surname (I think it's a possibility since we have preset surnames). If I remain professional and/or have low approval, then titles will suffice.

I kinda think it would be weird if Cullen still only called you Inquisitor or such after getting into a relationship with them... surname at the very least.

I also don't want a jump from "Inquisitor" straight to something like "Love" or "Dear"... I like to think there would be some familiarity to them speaking to each other.

I don't know how much our Eastern hemisphere Cullenites go outside the thread, but a lot of European/Australian players are planning to use VPN to unlock the game earlier, on the 18th (or even the 17th, using a South Korean IP). If you don't want to wait until the 20th, 21st to get your paws on the game, you can follow these instructions to unlock and play it earlier:

You'll need to have your game registered to Origin, so it won't work for people still waiting for physical copies to be delivered, but anyone who already got their copy or key can do this. And it's not against the Origin EULA, so you won't get banned for this either.
